Title: Card Decks
Description: which is your favourite?

Sukyi - January 10, 2006 10:12 AM (GMT)
Well, just wondering... I know there are vipers, ghosts, tigers, invisible, rider bike, league bike, etc etc etc... Which is your favourite deck?

I notice most people only use rider and league bicycle decks. Is that purely because it's cheaper than the rest or because you like the bicycle decks?

KenophLai - January 10, 2006 10:35 AM (GMT)
money is a BIG problem for most of us(i think),if i'm rich, maybe i'll buy a few dozens of ghost decks and use them to perform!however, using a Rummy king(buatan malaysia)is alo not a bad idea since this will eliminate the possibility of using gimmick deck and trust me your spectator is not going to check your rummy king

why bicycle and not Rummy king: bicycle is made in US and i think most of you will get a billabong or nike instead of being a patriotic and get things buatan malaysia or made in china...furthermore, bikes smooth and durable

why bicycle and not ghost or black tiger: for me it's simply because bikes are cheaper trice as much...

why not viper?: yea get a pack of fanning powder ready if you are getting viper

OK, my favourite is lime green and Black rider back cards, they just look beautitiful and gorgeous to me~~but i'm really a poor kid and thus i'm using nly bikes...(btw invisible deck is a gimmick deck :P )

JamesTong - January 10, 2006 10:46 AM (GMT)
That depends on your performance objectives - the kind of people you are performing to (more males than females), the venue you are performing to, the occassion, etc.

Like in my case -

1) When there are more females I would use my femine cards - designs that appeal to ladies.

2) When there are more males - then any deck will do.

3) If I am performing in public where a lot of cards will be chosen the entire performance and if it is raining and it is semi outdoor - then any cards will do - you don't want to use bikes, tallyho, etc - they will be destroyed by wet & dirty fingers/hands.

The point is - in the perception of the public - can you really do magic? If you can then you should be able to do it with any deck of cards.

Its your knowledge and skills that count - of course the quality of the cards play a part but it is not that important. I have performed in odd places where I don't happen to have my cards around and the audience have a too-worn-out and incomplete deck of cards for me to perform - I have no choice but to use it.

I use a lot of m'sian cards too - including plastic cards, china cards, american cards, european cards, etc.

>> Lai:

True

>> JamesTong:
>> The point is - in the perception of the public - can you really do magic?

True.

My favourtie brand of deck is No. 101 plastic coated (buatan Malaysia). The reasons I use it in my pro work are because:
1) Lai has mentioned it.
2) James has mentioned it as well.
3) The most important one of all which is I always give away my cards/decks as sourvenir to the spectators and I often do routines where I'll most probably spoil the cards (card to mouth, mercury fold...).

Well, the disadvantage side of using local made deck is that you'll find it hard to do faro shuffle. For Rummy King, you'll find that it'll get sticky very easily and hard to fan; for No. 101 plastic coated, you'll rarely face with this problem.

>> Lai:
>> i think most of you will get a billabong or nike
>> furthermore, bikes smooth and durable
True. That's why I only use Bicycle cards for my 3 card monte routine where i really need good cards. Other than, No. 101 plastic coated.

Sukyi, talking abt quality, USA or USPC cards are off better quality compared to any Msian made cards. THey have better finishes which allows u to control, fan the cards better.

Using better cards also make u look and feel more pro.

Bikes and Tallys are magicians fav cards.

My favs are Leagues for flourishing. Riders always for magic. I also muck around with Aladdins -stiff cards-

BTD, Ghost decks, Lime Green, VIpers etc are more of collectors item. i dont really use them like how i use my bikes.

Afoi: Maybe more comfortable than more pro ?

You won't look pro just because you use Bicycle. Most lay people don't know what Bicycle is except for magician. Maybe they know it............. - a vehicle with 2 wheels :D (just kidding)

However, you'll feel pro because Bicycle is definitely more comfortable for you to execute move and to manipulate them.

Brendan Low - January 10, 2006 04:03 PM (GMT)
hehe... more pro in the eyes of magicians hehe

becuase u can execute the slieghts beter thus making u look more pro lor..

eg... fanning ceplak cards and fanning a deck of bikes....

I got a ghost and black tiger... scared to open... i play with my bike... after about 3-4 weeks must change... i'm scared i'll damage the expensive ones... hehe... but i quite like the bike...

my dad came back from china with a "Bee" deck... quite nice also... Also from US playing card company... somehow the fan is nicer than when i use my bike... maybe because my bike old also...

If you really like card magic or flourish go get them in boxes of dozen. For long run, you actually save a lot B) All pros also do that.

Sukyi - January 10, 2006 05:28 PM (GMT)
hahaha... i'm still very much a beginner... no point buying so much yet... hehehe...

JEUZE - January 10, 2006 08:31 PM (GMT)
Personally I prefer Holly-Ho and bike. Any deck no different.

Feel much comfortable

- must has white border with it
- printing must equal or even shape printing

No comfortable when using BEE [full surface printing]
Flourishe for BEE is perfect.

isaac - January 11, 2006 06:53 AM (GMT)
Bee deck .. i also want !!

Bike is more comfy n quality.

once i met a senior magician in SS2 magic shop,
he say if we can do flourishes or magic with bike,
we can almost do with all other deck.
dunno how true is this ..
wat say u all bout this statement ?

Kam - January 11, 2006 08:06 AM (GMT)
Tally Ho for me. It feels really nice, and the design kills as well. Speaking of which, it's one way.

En temp du temp, I also like to use bicycle... depends on the ocassion, I guess.

As much as the spec grabbing your cards to see if it's "gimmicked"... I don't think it matters whether it's bee or what. Some effects, when performed smoothly, look very impossible and the specs will just check your deck even if you're holding local brand.

To my experience, yes it is true that certain audience is more comfortable to see decks that they're most familiar with, but in average, they don't really care. What you need to do is to be consistent, I guess.

I have a question about those decks.

I notice that BEE, Bike, Tolly have different finish? What the different on those finish? for example: Ghost [UV500 Air-Flow finish], BEE [Cambric finish]

Thinking buy the Geff Ghost Deck[Click to View] by ellusionist. [Just for Collection]

Although any deck make no different as long as knowing these deck well before performance [What can do with the deck, what can not do with the deck while performing].

Local made deck feel that not comfortable while flourishing.

Full printing surface [without white border like bike and tolly] has a good eye view on flourishing, but really feel that limited your skill when perform.

Beside that I enjoy using bike, bee or tolly [CHO DAI D] not gambling. Feel much comfortable using them [CHO DAI D], I have tested everyday [CHO D] with the deck 3 hours can last for 9 months [Tested on Bicycle Blue Deck]. Do you guy use them [CHO DAI D], try to enjoy those deck beside doing magic??? only my opinion.

i guess it's who you play with... if you play with people who don't know how to handle cards, one game already can damage your cards badly...

Are you sure one game already can damage your cards badly?

How to determine a user don't know how to handle cards?

I did damage my card when I didn't notice my customer's children take my card and bite it.. But still can let me CHO D, beside girl has a way reborning their hair, but I have my way reborning my deck [but only 1 times, I failed in second time reborning my bike deck].

Bee, Bike and Tolly are for not only for magician and also for card player [as long as they know there is A,2,3,4,... and joker, 1 deck 52 card 2~4 joker], I refer to Bicycle User Information Homepage.

Joe Xavier - January 11, 2006 02:55 PM (GMT)
Bicycle Cards:
- AC finish.
- One fine linen layer between two air cushioned coated paper layers.

Tally Hos:
- Linoid finish.
- One slightly thicker linen layer between two air cushioned coated paper layers.

Bees:
- Cambric finish.
- I assume this uses a cambric layer instead of a linen one. Not so sure about this yet.

Hope it helps...
A lifetime of card peeling made me understand them.

What the advantage and disadvantage? When you use them do you feel any different, I feel really different when using them but don't know how to tell in verbal [when you hold those different deck]? Any special effect you can do on different finish? I tear a card and see what inside, see those manufacture did cheat me or not, seem made card so professional and end up so many finish.

What type of finish will be use on casino like GENTING?

Thickness level...

Tally Hos > Bikes > Bees

It doesnt matter what types you use. Some people like plastic cards while others favour cardboard styles.

They have linen layers in it... and consist of a thin layer of paper, a linen layer, a layer of thin paper. Thus, the term pasteboard.

Really agree what you said,

No wonder, bees too soft, I did use BEE after 2 times using, feel that it will damage easyily and keep it as collection. Like to use TALLY hard enough.

BEE price = Bicycle price = Aviator prise < Tally-Ho [Magic Ring Price, long time didn't visit].

i just opened up my new circle back tally ho a few days ago. they feel nice.

i often juggle between riders, leagues, alladins and tallys.

Most of the time, i practice between bikes and alladins.. hehe.

In the end its not the cards that make u a better flourisher...

i meant like i put them in shelf for few years, then few years later when i open them, will they loose their finish, or something? for example like bike, will they loose their air cushion feel if i open them like 5 years later?
