Title: Locating Nearby Magicians
Description: Where can i find.....
Nasrun - January 16, 2006 05:24 PM (GMT)
Greetings y'all...
I have realized that this forum is growing bigger and bigger each day.
More local independant magicians have finally found their way to this beloved forum. This is a very positive sign that our passion is gaining acceptability in the country.
However, i noticed that since the size of this forum has grown, it is impossible to keep track of all the members of this forum. Notice that for every gathering, not many can participate?
From my personal experience, i have to admit i barely know any magicians that lives around my area. This is frustrating as the main reason i joined this forum is to locate and make friends with other magicians in order to enhance and better my self at magic. But not knowing where they stay is one of a "turn off".
I would like to suggest that we device a system that would enable us to locate mmf members. With this system, i can assure you will discover there are magicians that live just close enuff with each other. This surely a positive thing as these magicians don't have to wait for a big gathering to meet up only to discover he or she live next door with each other.
Members can meet up more frequently to chill, brainstorm ...etc..etc..We can even set up "Chapters of MMF" perhaps? e.g, Klang ,Shah Alam, Subang, Puchong,PJ,Kelana Jaya and Damansara would be in one chapter. TTDi, Kepong, Ampang, Cheras would be another chapter.
I hope by doing this, each chapter can gather more often and dun have to wait for big events.
For a start,
I live in Shah Alam! i would say that i want to locate any magicians that stays around Klang, Shah Alam, Subang, Puchong,P.J, Kelana Jaya and Damansara...
So, if any of u guys stays around that area, do PM me as i need ur contact no. Really loooking forward to chill and learn from you guys.
Afterall, this is a Fellowship innit?

Perhaps the administrator could provide a list of location of all the members for public viewing?
Kam - January 17, 2006 03:43 AM (GMT)
Yong,
http://forums.malaysiamagicfellowship.com/...p?showtopic=379 :D I've pinned it up for the time being, seeing (like you said) the growing interest of MMF meet ups.
Nasrun - January 17, 2006 09:33 AM (GMT)
Thanks for pinned that up Kam. But what i really saying is that perhaps its high time for us to have a proper database of all the members.
I can see vast things that we can do with this database.
just my two cent. hope the admin look into this.
:)

For those in the Klang Valley, I recommend you contact Anselm Roy and join the magic annexe. No membership fees required. You just need to pass the interview which is not even a test of how good you are etc ... Roy and the senior members of the annexe (I am not one of them ...) just want to be sure you are serious about wanting to learn and improve in the realm of magic.
I really enjoy the meetings and have learnt a lot and made some good friends. From the MMF forum, I know that Charleston and Canbeef are members. Others may be but I get confused with the nicknames ;)
Roy is an international class stage magician. I am just puzzled that so many who are crazy about magic etc and clearly a lot better than me in terms of experience, knowledge and skill don't make an effort to join the annexe.
Some from MMF have come but once and then never again  ???
Anyway posted about this before so I won't belabour the point ...
For me, I go regularly except for times when my work clashes with the meeting times :(

Hi Paul, How do you do? Glad to see u in here again after u been missing for quite sometimes. I am Vincent from Magic Ring Club and of course I heard of Magic Annexe. When you said it is free to be member, may i know what is the "catch"? I mean the pro & cons? I believe there is no free meal in this world. We are living in the world of reality. Just curious to know from you.
And to Nasrun & Shahrol, welcome to MMF.

The MMF does not charge membership either ;)
No catch.
Brendan Low - February 4, 2006 04:02 AM (GMT)
The thing is Magic Annexe is based in KL. Magic Ring is based in KL too...
MMF is well... a forum for all Malaysian magicians/flourishers to fellowship. We have people from East Miri, sarawak, penang, terenganu etc... the whole of malaysia who comes and join in the forum.
Talking abt membership... MMF is a FREE forum for anyone to join. No catch. No interview etc.
I think if u want proper membership, then u need to qualify for it. I hear that u need to go for interviews and stuff to be an Annexe member.
I dunno abt Magic Ring. Is there a fee to be a member? Any requirements? or anybody with money can join?
To me i beleive that passion weighs more than mere paying money to learn magic. I'd rather teach a person magic/flourish for free rather than collecting money and teaching someone whom i know have no passion at all...
Again MMF general forum does not expose secrets. We have an Elite section in this forum where one can feel free to discuss more indepths sleights and all.. but then again... only selected members (those whom i know and whom i met or qualify)are being allowed in that section.
Magic Annexe/Magic Ring Club/MMF members... i beleive oneday would kinda have almost the same members... i dunno... that's just wat i think. We are all Malaysian magicians...
The only drawbacks is MMF have heaps of newbies... but that aint matter much to me... as long as the learn and do magic the right way.
For us MMF members we do meet regularly... we meet at various places... sometimes at MR, sometimes at Coffeebean or starbucks... We enjoy jamming together... with anyone interested in magic/flourish, it aint matter if u are an Annexe member or a MR member.
Brendan Low - February 4, 2006 04:14 AM (GMT)
Perhaps we can all meet oneday... annexe, MR, and MMF...
When should our big gathering be?

You have got me mixed up with someone else.... I have never met you and I did mention this clearly in response to your e-mail a week ago ;)
Totally different person, Ok?
As for magic annexe, it is FREE - I have never been charged a cent, Anselm and the other members gives me advice, critiques etc on whatever we are discussing. He and his dear wife even feeds us with loads of different snacks and drinks, hot and cold ... no charge either ... In fact. there have been times when Roy is away overseas on magic business and he still lets us use his home (the annexe) and his dear wife still provides the snacks :D
I suppose the only "catch" is, that you have to invest in the magic first before he will discuss finer points of a magic effect... no blatant exposure etc. and his promotion of getting not just original magic stuff but those of good quality.
It's an "open secret" but Roy even makes a loss for us ... he helps order stuff for us and sells to at the US list price. He subisdizes the postage cost (and we all know that is big savings). For example, I got my Dlites (Roccos) for US 10 each ... meaning for my pair of D'lites paid under RM 40.
I guess that it is generally true that there is no free meal as we still have to pay for the magic purchases :( ... BUT there is genuinely helpful and kind people who is willing to make personal loses to help others :D And while the annexe has a shop (though not a regular kind), it's clearly not to make money ... and we hep each other get stuff, even sell or give away some items that are not suitable for our personal tastes ... For example, I'm getting an old but hardly used deck of jumbo cards from a member for RM 5. Good price or not? :o
Another example, I have been buying up all the linking ropes effects I can find that are cheap but of a good quality and selling them at cost since I know its a good effect that many will appreciate ...
In the almost a year I have been a member of the club this has been my experience. For me, it is a great club ... built on friendship and generosity ... much better another international prestigious "fellowship" club I pay annual membership fees.
Charleston and Canbeef, among others have been around much longer in the club and they will tell you the same. These two have also encouraged me by sharing stuff and performing.
Oh, and another thing, just for the record, I think the MMF and The Magic Annexe are not in any form of competition, since both are free! Also, I like it here at MMF too :P as some here have a similar spirit of helping each other ... though I am more "cautious" here as whole a forum has its great pluses, it is just not as personal as face to face regular get togethers...
The Annexe forums are slow :( and I think its because the meetings are generally forthnightly and it is a whole lot easier and better to discuss stuff face to face ...
Hope this LONG post (my name is paul long) gives you an added helpful picture if the magic annexe. Aren't you tired of me talking about the annexe?
Paul Long - February 5, 2006 05:42 AM (GMT)
oopss ... pair of D'lites for under RM 80 not under RM 40 :D
Paul Long - February 5, 2006 11:53 AM (GMT)
Vincent,
no need to apologise for mistaken identity ... it's just to make things clear as it might be pretty embarrasing for me for others to think I am an acomplished magician
Let me make a guess (mentalism act .... you are thinking of .... Paul ... Seow?_ :o
Kieran - February 5, 2006 12:09 PM (GMT)
hi paul...
remember me? we met the other day at the annexe... i think u will familliarize with the name ~keyz~... yeah... i hope the guyz at annexe dont take it the wrong way of me not attending the meetings... i try my best to come but its just that the meetings are on tuesdays, which i find impossible to come too coz of skewl... i hope they wont think of me as the "one hit wonder" kinda guy...
-rocker keyz- :!!:

Yeah, sure I remember you. I think we all know your situation, so no one has misunderstood :D - which includes ... exam year, no wheels, and living pretty far away ... etc. Not a wonderful combination, and we sympathise... :(
Hope to see you when you have holidays ...
My comments on the matter of people dropping by once and never returning was a general statement ... not a censure of anyone. Just a general comment that for those who are able and serious, Roy started the annexe to help us ... and it is strange to me that so few take up this offer.

Hi Paul, glad to hear that you are avery active in magic even though u are just new. May I know how long u started magic? Me, i started when I was 7 as a hobby and eventually it turned out to be my career. Where are u from? I am from Cheras.
What kind of magic do you normally do? As for me, I am majoring in staqe magic - interactive magic. Close up,well not so much, a bit of cards and coins tricks...to cari makan mah.
To Kieran, how do you do?Havent see u around much lately? Bet must be busy, but I really enjoy your card flourish, especially when u did the card kicking or whatever you call that.It was cool! I tried but cant do it.Hehe! Wish you all the best in your study.
Wish all members good health and take care. Bye

hehehe kieran... u did the kicking thing eh?
u saw me doing it during the last meeting rite? lol... anyway, the idea is from D&D's "hackisack".
Its much better if u do it with shoes compare to barefooted. Skate shoes are great IMO.
Cheers!
Brendan

about 4 years but only more serious and focused for over a year. ..
I'm a novice. Mostly into gospel magic stuff .. am actually quite a klutz but pretty thick skinned about learning B)
Dabbling with all kinds of stuff from stage to close up but now trying to focus with help from the annexe.
Presently focusing on sponge ball routines ...
