Hi folks,

To be honest, Guy Hollingworth's 'Drawing Room Deceptions" is one of a kind book that it's really inspired startled me to get this book due to after watching his 'The Reformation' in the World's Greatest Magic (WGM).

I asked and collected quite a number of reviews, comments and opinions about this book, and they told me it would be difficult, but I know card sleights like Rotary change, double lifts, miracle change, passes, half pass would achieve it, but it didn't!

After I read the intro of this book, I begin to admire Guy Hollingworth. He willing to invest a full decade of his young life in the study and practice of close-up card magic. He was not satisfied to mimic the tricks of others so he created a repertoire that was totally original. (which you find all these effects in this book) Also I like his 'gentleman' physical look. :)

When I start to read this book, it was extremely difficult, but that’s why I think I like it so much, it challenges me when I read it and perform. The book is excellent and contains some great trick such as:

Cassandra Quandray - An amazing trick in which a selected card is put in a sealed ugimmicked envelope, then the spectator by a process of elimination eliminates 50 cards from the pack leaving one, (the other one in the envelope makes 52) the one left would be impossible for it to be in the envelope, BUT IT IS, the sealed signed envelope is opened and there is no card in there! Talk about a paradox!

Waving the aces: Each Aces turn face up and face down one at a time by goving a twist!

Reformation: Torn and restored card, I think the best one ever, and hardest one ever!

Oil and Water: Red separates from black in a packet of six cards, audience sees the altered colors and instantly the are black separated from red! It's amazing!

Here's are the reviews by the top names: ^_^
=========================================

- "This is an outstanding book. The material is geared toward the experienced card magician, but there are routines which require little or no skill. Drawing Room Deceptions is one of the best books of the year, and I highly recommend it."
Mike Close MAGIC magazine

- "This is a magnificent publication that is a major work of perhaps the most prolific British card magician around today... lovingly produced by Mike Caveney's Magic Words ...this is one of the major, original card magic books of the century to be considered alongside Expert Card Technique, The Royal Road to Card Magic and Erdnase that must be required reading and have a permanent place on any card worker's bookshelf. Guy Hollingworth has taken us back to the great days of card magic in an echo of the work of Nate Leipzig, Paul Le Paul, Charlie Miller and Dai Vernon."--Jack Avis and John Derris in ABRA

- "Within the world of magic, the publication of Guy Hollingworth's book has been as long-awaited as this summer's new Star Wars movie. The book was finally published and unlike Star Wars - I wasn't disappointed by the contents! Guy has a wonderfully witty style which kept me laughing out loud from the devious prologue to the end page. This is an important book and a true delight to read."--Anthony Owen The Magic Circular

Bottom line: This book I think should be more suitable to advanced card magician. Although this book is quite easy to read and the illustrations are awesome and helpful. Some tricks are quite easy and some are very hard. The card effects are very powerful. Some of these effects are on Guy's tape London collection, but everyone who likes card magic, should get this book! ;)

Cheers,
Andrew
