Title: Coin Roll!
Description: Whats your best record

Jarrett Goh - February 5, 2006 10:49 AM (GMT)
Hey guys,

I've been really curious about you people who know how to do the coin roll...what is your best record....I've been practicing for 4 months now but I just stop recently coz I've been concentrating more on card magic....my best record is 41 times a minute...I usually only can do about 40 tiomes only lol....but I'm not sure if you will do the coin roll faster as you grow older....I'm 13 years old and it seems that those who are about 24 years old they can do about 45 times a minute....well right now I only can do 41 times a minute....still got much more to practice  !!!

Jarrett ^_^

Johnny - February 5, 2006 11:38 PM (GMT)
ok i will try that and post up my record... but do you stand or sit when you do your coin roll? i find that its harder to do when you are standing up.

Jarrett Goh - February 6, 2006 09:24 AM (GMT)
I usually do it sitting down...standing is harder coz we tend to get scared that the coin will fall....hope you see your record soon....no rush dude B)

Jarrett ^_^

Brendan Low - February 6, 2006 10:34 AM (GMT)
hehe i will try too lol... but will wait for u. B)

by the way... u guys do it with 20cents of 50cents?

most of the time i do 20cents.... coz i got smalll hands.. <_<

Jarrett Goh - February 6, 2006 11:55 AM (GMT)
Wah low...I can do with both coins but I prefer 50 cent coin so it wont drop that easily and can do faster....if you practice with 20 cent coin first then move on to 50 cent coins you'll be able to do it much faster....how old are you Brendan?I'm 13 with small hands so palming is not easy and doing some of the flourishes from XB is kinda hard....anyways you guys take your time while I practice more!!!hehe :P

Jarrett ^_^

Johnny - February 6, 2006 01:03 PM (GMT)
i wonder if its 40 times continunosly in a minute?? or did you just drop the coin and continue???

Brendan Low - February 7, 2006 04:14 AM (GMT)
Jarret.... im going to be twice ya age dude... 13... so darn young... keep it up and u'll be a good magician.

Jarrett Goh - February 7, 2006 04:32 AM (GMT)
The coinvanishguy...usually I dont drop it when I'm recording best timing or when I'm performing....but practice then I do drop it sometimes.....for Brandon Low....thx mate....add me at jarrett_goh@hotmail.com on msn messenger so we can get to know each other better

Jarrett ^_^

Brendan Low - February 7, 2006 05:22 AM (GMT)
Jarret, I'll add u sometime next week.... my internet is down and cant use MSN at work lol.

BTW, just call be Brendan. Im the only Brendan here anyway... hope it stays that way haha...

Lester - February 7, 2006 09:15 AM (GMT)
i started off doing the coin roll with RM1 coins... i find that its better cause of its relatively heavier weight compared to 20 cents... haven't timed myself though... but i doubt i can do up to 41 times!!!
eh wait... u guys toking bout the coin walk or coin roll?
anyways... i can only do it going down one way... can u guys do the one whr it goes up and down up and down up and down up and down x41 times?

Brendan Low - February 7, 2006 09:30 AM (GMT)
nah.... mine is one way....

go down via fingers and up again using the thumb. i believe this is called coin roll.

Most people i see do one way.

The only person i see do up and down via fingers is er... Mr Andy Magic. hehe. he does it super fast too ;)

Jarrett Goh - February 7, 2006 01:57 PM (GMT)
The one I do is the one Brendan does...

David Choo - February 8, 2006 11:24 AM (GMT)
41 revolutions in a minute quick fast already for me ....

For me i can only hit 30+ revolutions in a minute ... didnt really timed myself well..

But definitely in that range.

=)

David.

Jarrett Goh - February 8, 2006 12:43 PM (GMT)
Revolution? What do you mean by revolution? The "coin roll" that I do is here in this link check it out http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=1155 if people who want to learn how to do the coin roll go to the same website and if you wanna buy other stuff go there and buy as well :P !!!

Jarrett B)

David Choo - February 8, 2006 03:50 PM (GMT)
I thoguht when u finish a coin roll its called a revolution ?

Correct me if im wrong .

David ;)

Jarrett Goh - February 9, 2006 11:25 AM (GMT)
I wont admit that you're wrong though coz I'm not sure where or who told you that its called revolution....I know about revolution coin vanish DVD but not revolution as the coin roll....lol....anyways I think you better just stick to coin roll :P

Jarrett B)

Ignatius - February 9, 2006 07:02 PM (GMT)
jarett, U R really dumb, I told you to stop pretending to know.

One complete lap is called a revolution.
Revolution coin vanish is the name for E marketing coin vanish.
The French revolution is a rebellion by people in france to kill people like you.
OPEN YOUR DICTIONARY!

Johnny - February 9, 2006 11:29 PM (GMT)
yeah... one complete circle is one revolution. i think he confuse you.. but i think you are young so you dont know what it means. Anyway you just learn a new word to use today.

Paul Long - February 10, 2006 01:47 AM (GMT)
My coin rolls very far ... when I drop it on hard level ground. Not so far when I drop it on the carpet. LOL! :D
Since it tends to roll very fast, I can't catch how many revolutions per roll :P

Ok .. on the more serious side, just curious - does anyone use other coins besides Malaysian coins? If yes, why?

Yo Aerox, please dont call people dumb or stupid. Its uncalled for. No one likes to be called names k.

Jarret is new to magic. He did admit that he was not sure. So please dont be so harsh ya.

Jarret, revolution means a complete circle.

By the way, OHR cut is misleading coz its only half a circle revo haha.. but that's off topic. I love doing OHRs... Anyway for noobs, OHR mean One Hand Revolution, a one handed cut invented by Tudor.

Cheers,
Brendan

Jarrett Goh - February 10, 2006 03:35 AM (GMT)
Ehemz Aerox...I did tell you that I'm not sure....didnt you read nicely anyways enough of it....now that I know....dont bother :P ....dont think its neccesary to say things like you're really dumb....I'm only 13 and I dont really know as much as you....so if you caught me wrong or said something wrong cant you just say its called the revolution after one roll, etc? You did say that....but not in a friendly way....and whats with "The French revolution is a rebellion by people in france to kill people like you"....whats so nice about it....nvm....

Paulmagic,
I prefer using 20 Australia cent at times coz its a lil heavier and the size is exactly like Malaysian coins....thats why I took back a bunch of 20 cents coins back to Malaysia :P ...I dont like using 50 Australian cent coz its a octagon shaped coin....lol

Coinvanishguy,
Thx for your advice man...really appreciate it coz it said in a very good manner unlike Aerox....do you mind giving me your hotmail e-mail add so we can keep in touch

David Choo,
I'm so so sorry about what I said....guess you're right....its called a revolution after doing a complete coin roll....thx man.... :P

So people I havent got any of you guys best record yet!!!...who cares....at least I learn something new here in this topic....like I always say you guys take your time and I'll keep practicing :P !!!oop...not forgetting my good friend Brandon....thx man for telling me its called a revolution after one complete coin roll  ....hope I can get your msn e-mail add soon ^_^

The guy is crazy... he does it so fast, backward, and he could even make the coin jump to skip a finger or two. And he does it NONCHALANTLY... damn.

David Choo - February 11, 2006 02:26 AM (GMT)
No problem Jarret.

As long as we understand each other.

Myself is not sure as well whether its called a revolution for a complete coin roll which is why i kept quiet. lol

By the way, the current world record holder is De'vo right ? Heard that he did More than 60 revolutions in a minute?

Anyone has the info?

David

Jabz - February 11, 2006 04:11 AM (GMT)
HEY !

Try making it untill 50 per minute. If I'm not mistaken the www.penguinmagic.com said the world record is 46 per minute !

David Choo - February 11, 2006 01:37 PM (GMT)
Umm ... The penguin record was easily beaten by De'vo.

Im not sure but it's around 60 revolutions in a minute !

The penguin record was nothing to him.

David.

Jarrett Goh - February 11, 2006 04:56 PM (GMT)
I dont know much about De'vo coin roll but I do know that he is too fast lol...he does moves like its nothing to him....aik....penguin magic world record is only 40 times a minute but that was sometime ago now I guess De'vo is the world record holder....scary guy lol :P

Ignatius - February 12, 2006 11:17 AM (GMT)
I need to scare the undedicated noobs or the layman who only came here to find out the secret. There needs to be at least one guy like this here. If you're offended, you run away and don't come back. If you're not, good.

.... I need an EEEVELL smiley....

Lester - February 13, 2006 03:43 AM (GMT)

JamesTong - March 17, 2006 08:15 PM (GMT)
Jarrett, here's some tips on coin roll ...

1) Do it from the starting position to the last finger and then let it come back to the starting position.

2) Do it from the starting point to the last finger - then let it go through the gap between the ring finger and last finger and balance the coin with the thimb tip (not TT) and with the thumb balancing the coin bring it from bottom back to the starting position.

3) Do it from the starting position and when the coin reaches the last finger catch it with the thumb of the other hand and continue rolling down to the last finger and then atch it with the thumb of the other hand and continue the cycle.

4) Do it with two coins - rolling one after the other.

NOTE: World Magic record - magicians doing it with three or more coins of different sizes together.

BONUS TIP:

Practise the coin roll with different sizes and diffrent country denomination - that way you are training your fingers for other sleights later on.

Dexterity of fingers means being able to move your fingers lightly, with speed, or slowly, with brute strength, etc - that way your finger muscles are trained for many other coin techniques when you learn them.

Hope you break the Malaysia world of record - we will be proud of you.

I would love to see you rolling with one of my coins - a giant coin :!!:

Jeff - March 20, 2006 12:28 AM (GMT)

JamesTong - March 20, 2006 12:40 AM (GMT)
No one can beat me at the moment ...

Only 1 miserable roll in 60 seconds and at the 59th second the coin drop on the floor.

JamesTong - March 20, 2006 03:53 AM (GMT)
No we don't use the Malaysian coins - use the giant USA coins I have - the size is bigger than our head. Let's see how many revolution we can do.

Brendan Low - March 20, 2006 04:00 AM (GMT)
haha our hands aint as big as ur Mr James.

mine's like a lil child's compared to urs! LOL.

i normally do it with RM20 cents....

50 cents can also .. just give a lil more gap between fingers lol....

JamesTong - March 20, 2006 04:03 AM (GMT)
haha I cannot even roll that giant coin, Brendan - don't know why I bought it in the first place. Maybe good for swapping mosquitoes or flies.
