Title: Bizzare Magick
Andrew Loh - March 13, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
Hi folks,
I am really interested in 'Bizzare Magic', which I normally like to perform in a small dark room and a lit candle if my specs like that kind of magic. So you guess it, I normally would like to use cards like 'Tarot', some horror tools like Voodoo dolls, etc. This normally has some frighten kind of elements or atmosphere, etc.
Hey! Come on, all these are only entertainments ONLY. Don't think I am a sorcerer or necromancer like in Diablo game.
I am interested to find out about you guys about using Tarot cards in your performance. If yes, what kind of effects do you used in those Tarot cards???
Would like to hear more from you guys. :)
Best Wishes,
Andrew

MagicB,
No! I don't have any voodoo doll. :ph43r:
This kind of things should NOT BE OWN by people, this is definitely SCARY.
I just use a playing card and draw a picture which explain some stories behind this picture which looks like a voodoo doll. Quite scary actually!
Nevermine, if you want, next time I perform for you in the dark room. Of course, you must be prepared first. :)

Check out Mastering The Art of Magic by Eugene Burger. He has some good bizarre presentation for some common effects. Infact I think you should checkout hid DVDs. Most of them concentrates on this bizzare-kind of effects. If you have Magic Menu First 5 Years, he was featured in one of the volumes (I can't remember which issue), he adapted alot of bizarre effects using Tarot Cards to walkaround situation.
Since you have Guy Hollingworth's book Drawing Room Deceptions, there is a voodoo card effect iin the Introduction chapter. Also check out Nathan Kranzo's Visual Voodoo. He has a nice touch on the voodoo card effect.
Hope this helps dude

Another book worth checking out for its Bizzare effects is the "Swami Mantra". I took a gaze through it when I was working at the magic shop, and boy... some freaky stuff inside :|
Oh, and I love Steve Martin's line about Tarot cards:
"We were playing poker with Tarot cards the other day... I got a full house, and four people died"

Its been a while since there was a reply to this title so i decided to dig this up
Other than Andrew, who else enjoys such magick?
I hae been very interested in the 'dark' side after watching star wars episode III. Ney just kidding.
But having performed for some friends card magic and the sorts, it seems they become quite bored when i whip out a deck. but when i do some story telling stuff which involves the supernatural, tarots, fortune telling, etc they become interested again.
Unfortunately, bizzare magick is not for everyone. Not because it is really that scary, but because we lack the atmosphere and of cause, we need spectators who are willing to listen to te repsentation. Presentation is extremely important in bizzare magick.
Unlike magic, bizzare magick is mainly in the presentation. A normal ACR can also be made into a bizzare routine with the appropriate presentation. jst like the haunted deck effect, Eugene burger used tarot cards in his presentation coupled with a lighted candle for a fortune telling effect (Watch Chicago Tapes, Eugene Goes Bizzare)
Anyone else interested?

It sounds a bit like Wizard Magic, if you ask me. You'll find stuff bordering on the bizarre on my site not just stuff for sale, but ideas, too. But Wizard magic, while it has its bizarre moments, can also be funny and entertaining just as the Harry Potter movies make it out to be.

Thanks spellbinder.
Yup you are right, bizzare magick is very very similar to wizard magic less the hat ^_^
I am very interested in your Wizard's Journal.
Do you mind elaborating a bit of the contents? From what i am reading, wizard's journal is more a informational read then one that discuss routines.
Quite interested in 'Love Potion' tho lol might be useful in the future :P

Each article is a complete routine in itself, except for the Wizard's Den section which is informational in nature. I hope that answers your question.

Edwin,

Edwin - August 6, 2005 03:03 AM (GMT)
ive seen some in bookstores too .. but their really jumbo size.. almost 1/2 a cards length longer vertically .. does tarot cards all look like that ? kinda big if gonna do Sleights lol
Spellbinder - August 6, 2005 03:43 AM (GMT)
The whole point of using the Tarot is that you seemingly don't use sleights. In fact, you might point that out if you are a magician using a Tarot deck. Show how the cards are larger than your hands. However, if you are passing yourself off as a Wizard or Bizzartist, you would not want to even mention the idea of sleights to the audience. No sense giving them ideas.
Tarot cards are mixed, not shuffled. You just slide them around the table and rearrange them in this fashion. If you happen to be sitting at the table, then one sleight open to you is lapping. But there are others that can be done, such as double lifting, false cuts, and so on. You're not helpless.
I sell Rider-Waite Tarot decks on my site, and The Wizards' Journal has several articles describing magical uses for them.

Hi folks,
Below books are spells, just sharing I normally read these kind of books and I think it helps in your magic presentation, ideas, and etc.

But, just read this book CAREFULLY, do not indulge yourself in the dark side. :ph43r: - Though this book seems good magic, but they have some certain magic that bind something. :ph43r:

Edwin - August 8, 2005 01:26 AM (GMT)

Jeff Gan - August 8, 2005 01:36 AM (GMT)
Andrew dude,
heheheh wow, i'm speechless, and you better stop watching anymore episodes of "Charmed"
:P
Andrew Loh - August 9, 2005 01:26 AM (GMT)
Haha :P Rainking, to tell you the truth, I never watch Charmed show before in the TV even though the 3 ladies (witches) are so preety.
Oh man, please don't blame me for sharing these knowledge, ok? But important thing is you read all these books, at least you learn something useful, understand how wictches conduct their evil magic, and the most vital thing in here is DO NOT ATTEMPT THE MAGIC IN THE SPELLS BOOK.
To be honest, I just read them but I don't have the intention to cast any of them. Who knows, when the things (?) come out, you are in difficulty to send them back to the realm world. :ph43r:

I've got a friend over here who does tarot card readings as a hobby... and boy.. does it seem convincing.... possibly real
The thing with tarot cards is that, when the person does readings with it, and even though they are mentioning very vague descriptions and predictions, people connect with it.
You could actually see the changes in facial expression and emotions of the people whose future were being read. It didn't amaze them that it was magic.. it just caught their attention and their belief, listening word for word... trying to interpret it in everyway to relate to themselves. You could even see the more emotional person have their eyes watered up.
I think that is the reason why magicians could possibly start cults if we wanted to... haha..
but to use tarot cards for card effects... would it be more entertaining ? would it make a difference ? Or are we cheating people too much...
I don't think i'd use a tarot deck for card tricks... but to construct a theme around people's lives... i haven't seen such a trick before, maybe it's because there are so many other themes and effects around that you can choose to do and still be entertaining...
Jeff Gan - August 9, 2005 04:29 AM (GMT)
for those of u who use tarots, are u guys cold reading with visual aids (the tarots)?
Edwin - August 9, 2005 12:31 PM (GMT)
yeah thats what i thought after reading the book in a book store today ,the black one up right there on the pic above .. the stuff in there .. are really .. weird .. no doubt it struck my interest cause im always into goth stuff and witches spells and such ...
well thanks andrew for sharing now i know there is such books to dwell into ..
Andrew Loh - August 9, 2005 03:12 PM (GMT)
Edwin,
Glad that you took a look at the book, at least someone is with me with all these kind of weird books. I am not really sure the black book, I think some of the magick is good meanwhile others maybe bind the freedom of someone. You will only understand me if you finish this book.
I came across some book which I DO NOT WANT TO REVEAL HERE, the book is using voodoo dolls to cast black magic to someone, I think you have to pay a high price here. The items used are horrible, I bet when I say out the ingredients, don't know whether you have the guts and bold to find that ingredient or not, otherwise, your attempt to that spells will not work out properly.
I think it's foolish to do all these kind of things to someone. You will not RIP. :ph43r:
Just ignore that kind of black magic, reading for our knowledge is fine but dwelve into this art will just bring you trouble.
P/s: HAS ANYONE HERE PLAYING THE OUIJA BOARD BEFORE? HEARD THAT THIS BOARD HAS MADE A LOT OF PEOPLE GONE CRAZY IN TERMS OF MENTAL PROBLEMS. :ph43r:
Andrew
Edwin - August 9, 2005 04:59 PM (GMT)
lol yeah totally agreed. lets get away from that topic and cont. to this
Ouija board .... i have never experienced it  nor tried..
and all the stories i hear are " a friend's friend " type.. u get what i mean ...
Spellbinder - August 9, 2005 05:21 PM (GMT)
If you want to know the absolute TRUTH about witchcraft, spells, ouija boards and occult magic, PM me and I will speak to you openly and honestly about it all. I will not do so openly on the forum because I do not wish to expose deep dark secrets to innocent children. Before you PM me, make sure you really want to know the TRUTH and aren't just looking for secrets.
