Description: -lets discuss patter n performance-

Instead of discussing on skill and sleight ..
Malaysian tend to forget the important of performance and patter.
Sometime like (Credit to Jeff Gan) ..
We can copy the everything the teacher (be it Michael Ammar, Benachek or Oz) said in their patter.
For example in 2card monte (aka b honest where it is)
we can be so conform to david blaine patter and did not even change a single word he said.
so this a place where we discuss our new patter on the same move ..
personally i change 2CM to a memory test ..
and i will start off with some simple test like remember the card u holding ..
then at the end, i will just say they got a terrible memory.
cos from the begining till end there is no ACE.
:)

nice to know Sunday's gathering had some influence on you :P
btw, I wouldnt say the spec had a lousy memory. No point in making the spec look inferior. Instead curse yourself and say it was your eyesight that was bad...that you saw the wrong cards in the first place, and he would probably just laugh at himself for seeing the wrong cards too which is always a better ending than you laughing at him.
Just my opinion.

isnt that patter also from born to perform?? lol.. i use it as well.. hehe.. is a nice one.
anyway... i believe we just have to try to make the magic your own. at some point i have to agree that people tend to just follow the patters from dvds or books..

Yesh.....well said.....
I think unconsciously, we tend to imitate the people we learn from, unavoidable. Those who really take pride in their craft will go all out to come up with a completely different approach.
Most will at least inject a little bit of themselves into the effect.
But my gosh....there are still quite a few who just do the exact same few david blaine effects again and again and again and again and again and again....with his patter.
It's actually getting a little better now, some of us might remember abt 2 yrs ago there must be like 30,000 snap change videos made on webcams all over the internet. And there's no patter, no presentation, no effect too. Just:
1) Pick up card
2) Flick card with finger and it changes
3) The end
Talk about overdose. :ph43r:
Yes! David Blaine did it that way! But he CAME UP with the sulky magician persona. And is that the ONLY thing to do? Or is that the ONLY way to do it? :!!:

Yeah...I can see 5th March gathering had some influence on me too,I just went to magic club, started buying lots of magic props.NO card tricks at all.I also want to stop card magic like Jeff said.I bought crash thru,swing-a-ring,proffesors nightmare, flying coin, breaking wand, and a tally - ho deck (for fun...I like tally -hos lol). And also for some reason I made my own patters for all of the tricks.haha!...guess thats about it.For cm I like making them keep track of where are the aces very clearly...I dont say they're wrong most of the time.I just like them to think for themselves haha
jackliw - March 7, 2006 05:20 PM (GMT)
now im moving into visual types of magic because of my poor language :)
just need to say "look... look... " "it changes!!" "its gone!!"
isaac - March 7, 2006 06:08 PM (GMT)
i think in performance ..
language and oral presentaion is equally important ..
i mean hor if ah .. see this lar .. see hor .. it disappear edi lorrr
and then hor it come back again hor ...
i mean we dun ask for perfect english .. but at least cut down the lar n hor n bla bla bla
jeff - huh ? the patter by Oz meh ? i thought he use that for biddle trick or something else ? lemme go check tonight :)

Jarrett,
I never said that, what I was trying to imply is we gotta be more rounded and know a bit of everything.
You still can specialise in cards, just don't ignore everything else.
isaac - March 8, 2006 02:28 AM (GMT)
yeah jarrett
I got this problem last time when i am invited for a performance.
I only know card and only card ..
few coin trick and that all.
and people cant be watching card magic for 1hour ++
You will either bored them up or they will just walk away.
i like the word all rounded..
good eg. jackliw .. i mean u can give him card, ring, rope, coins .. he can do it well n smooth

Dude about that mistake, was in a rush.I wont post if I'm in a rush again next time haha.I agree with Isaac about the "All arounded" thing and also about the getting bored of too many card tricks. If I show more than 7 the 8th one start to get "unfresh" and wont get such a good reaction then the first one I performed.Today I did a lil card magic to a group of 15 people around me...looks like my planning is going well...haha.I thought you performing to everybody in the school. The cool part is that I might have a chance of making them believe in magic coz I study in a christian comminity(homeschooling in Rio De Futsal staium 2nd floor,USJ).I dont show to those who says magic sux,or try to act arrogant when I show to other people.I just ignore them. Its useless to show to people like that.I show to those who believe and those you believe only a lil...some people dont want me to show. They say its bad, then I have to admit I entertain(tell me if its a bad thing to do...I say the same thing as David Blaine did to those south american people lol)...anyways back to magic lol, gonna get off-topic lol.Thats why now I'm starting to do ordinary "props" magic and also card magic...haha
