Brendan Low - March 31, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
Im having doubts....
the nill response is bad man!
Jeff Gan - March 31, 2006 02:36 AM (GMT)
i think its because the 1st one was held on wednesday, not many guys will be free on a weekday.
Perhaps the one this coming weekend will have better response. I'm sure it'll be great.
Have fun guys.
I'm not coming. I've been having such a miserable month at work and plus I'm also working this Saturday. I'll need this weekend (if nothing crops up) for recuperating. PLus, I'm just not into cards.
Brendan Low - March 31, 2006 03:54 AM (GMT)
Ok... heard some feedbacks abt it and reasons as well... (thanks guys)
Im sure Erik Nordval will do a great show for us this sunday. Looking forward to it!
Im definitely going!

To be honest, I was disappointed
Here’s the rundown.
Attendees are given allocated seats and numbers based on their times of registration. To be fair early birds get the front seats and latecomers get the back. A total of 130 (+-) seats in total if I could remember correctly.
All walks of life, Family with primary school children to working adults are seen at the event, some even brought their writing material. From what I could see they were all very excited and so was I.
The magic that knocked me is when I stepped into the ‘lecture hall’. The hall is small! And how it is cramped with 130 seats is unbelievable and there is only a little walk way in the middle. The seats are placed so closed to each other and it is not funny. Worse than having seated in economic class air plane.
One by one people started walking in. Squeezing, groaning and complaining whilst they look for their seats. It was a nightmare. By the time everyone was seated, the heat started to build up. It was stuffy and warm.
When the organizer introduced Robin up on stage. Oops! There isn’t a stage and the hall is level (not an auditorium), therefore viewing from the back can be very unpleasant. By the time Robin introduces himself and started showing his tricks. We at the back could only get a glimpse of his head. Frustrated we started to stand. 15 minutes into the show, 1/3 of the attendees were seen standing up.
By the time Erik went up, I wasn’t felling it anymore. The walkway between the seats is filled with people standing up. It really was warm and stuffy – an unbearable condition. I left as soon as it ended.
I really didn’t want to run anyone down, but is just what I experienced.

Yes, I heard that feedback too Remus.
Thanks for sharing.
I know it will be better and having 2 hours for Erik to show his stuff will be better. Hopefully less theory and more magic performance and explanations tomorrow.
Looks like I will be most probably be going alone, not sure if Andrew will change his mind or not, but yeah no matter wat i'll still go... its not often u get underground magician from overseas coming.
I have some magician/cardician frens from Sweden and one of them know this guy in person. So far i hear great things so yeah that's why im going LOL... yup ... all the way from Melaka to meet and see this guy. I just hope I wont come back disappointed lol. I know I wont. There will be a few MMF members going tomorrow so... jamming and hanging out with them would be cool.
I'll be sure to take a pic with Erik.. if he doesnt mind lol :P
See you guys tomorrow!
Cheers,
Brendan

Andrew Loh - April 3, 2006 03:18 AM (GMT)
Let me share with you guys what's happening or news that yesterday I attended the Erik Nordvall's lecture.
I would like to say one word for Erik is "Awesome". I was so excited and glad that I attended Erik's lecture. I would like to say big thanks to brother Vincent Tan for having and personally inviting me to attend the awesome lecture. I am looking forward to any event or lecture that will hold in the near future. :) - I am excited of witnessing Colour Changing Masks which performed by a magician came from China.
This was a huge surprise for me as it's my first time experience to witness this classic unique act. Vincent, big thanks to you again of the awesome performances as well as your fellow Magic Ring members, they did a wonderful show. Bravo to them!!! :)
Also a special thanks to Brendan Low of encouraging me to attend the lecture, maybe without your encouragement, I maybe not attend the lecture and miss the important lecture.
Alright, now let me review about Erik's magic which I met him yesterday and a bunch of guys too we have the opporunity to jam a few hours with Erik.
Just like other guys said and they gave him one word "Crazy" and for me I will present Erik with 2 words "Insane and Killer Assassin". He killed us silently when we watched his performance. Or whatever you want to call Erik when you witness his magic. :D
His magic basically not "Pick a card" kind of that category but instead, he will say "Just think of any card", that's what he used this special technology weapon and killed us really, really greatly. :!!:
I witnessed his Triumph which everyone was taking about and I would like to say seeing him performing his Triumph is a sheer of beauty.
There are many, many effects he performed to us yesterday but I can't recall what effects Erik did to us but mostly not pick a card type category. :o
His card magic covered in his lecture are mostly cards but there's one coin magic which he credited to his mentor, Tom Stone. For those of you that know Tom Stone's works, I urge you guys purchase his stuffs, very original and creative magic. :)
There's one rubberband trick which covered in his lecture notes, he credited to Thomas Blomberg, another great magician from the Sweden. :)
For those of you guys that miss his lecture, don't worry, you still have the chance because Erik would still be around in KL and if my memory serves me correctly, Erik told me he would travel to Singapore on the 6th April.
You guys still can purchase Erik's lecture notes and in his notes, it's a goldmine and quite a number of them are KILLER card magic. :o
A word of warning, most of his stuffs covered are advanced type magicians, so, it's obviously that for those of you are beginners that purchase his notes, you guys are surely going to be hassle of reading it. ;)
Cheers,
Andrew

Gday guys,
Just wanna give my reviews on the magic lecture and performance on Sunday.
In one word: An awesome experience and jam session.
Andrew and I arrived Pudu like 10.30am. (the earliest there... and we got front seats together with the VIPs... )
Had our breakfast there. Thanks Vincent for the meal :)
The Swedish magician (Erik Nordvall) arrived at around 11.15am (abt there). hehe.. lol... he was hungry, so Andrew, Vic and I joined him again for breakfast. hehe... Had a great time chatting to him abt his magic, his mentor, his lifestyle. Wow... 22 yrs old and travelling the world :) awesome.
1pm.... the lecture starts.
Awesome expression and showmanship. haha... i became his volunteer (specatator) for the first half of the show. V good misdirection and lol.... he makes me laugh (his funny expression). Performed quite a number of killer card tricks. Some I already know eg. biddle across trick but its not abt the tricks.. its abt presentation.
Beside that trick the rest were v awesome. His Twisitng Travellers is one of my favourites, so it the MOP (mentalism kinda effect).
Refreshments was served after the lecture... (yummy sandwiches and Jelly or agar agar!!)
After Erik's performance and lecture, there were other performers that performed as well... such as Josh (MR), Allan (MR), Vinod (MC) and also a magician all the way from CHINA doing his mask changing effect! (wow!!! amazing he must have changed masks like 20 over times) crazy! V nice costume and the mask change is faster than a blink of an eye. So fast.... (if u think Mcbride is good... see you should have seen this)
Erik Nordvall was v nice and v humor as well. He continued to jam with a few of us even after the lecture. His card tricks blew me away. I tell this guy is not so much abt sleights... he is just wow.... natural is the word and amazing how he can know the card im thinking off!
There were quite a few of us that bought his lecture notes and got them signed by the man himself. :)
We jam till abt 4.30pm at Club de swan and then went to Times Square Starbucks. His last trick he showed us there flattened all of us! I mean really flat flat flat! He used two decks.... two specs... both spec riffle shuffled the cards kept half the card in the box and keep in their pocket, the used the other half and spread on the table... asked spec to point to one. Jogged that card, and then one by one he reveal that one the cards from the red deck and blue deck dont match. Only the one he injog (blue deck) matches the one card of the same position of the red! wow.. i know u read this u may be a bit confused... i am confused.. so many hard impact routines in this trick.. i cant beleive! and then dunno wat he do.. all the cards matches... the order of the red deck matches the order of the blue deck! And if that is not suprising enough, the cards that were all the while in the specs pocket (which was in the beginnign riffled suffled by both specs) were taken out and then bam.... the order are the same! Every one was like "WT* *%#%@5@5@%@#4.... then silent... then "wat???$^$%#$#@&%#" again..its like WOW! Amazing, we cant beleive wat we see LOL.
Ive seen and effect similar to this b4 but this is so much more impactful! its unbeleiavable.
We jam till abt 6pm then we left Starbucks... outside Starbucks... he showed me his muscle pass! wow! From half dollar, to 50 cents to 20 cents... his muscle pass is v good.. jumps up vertically, unlike some others i've seen. Hehe... he also performed a coin trick and hehe lol... blew Andrew away... lol with his misdirection.... lol :)
Im so glad I went. It is not only my getting to meet the Swedish magician and trying to learn more magic, having a few MMFers and jamming with him after was just awesome! It is a v good experience for me. I see and learn how much presentation can do so much in one's performance.
I'll leave this thread open for others to give their comments! :P
Thanks to MR (Vincent and gang) for AGAIN organising such a wonderful event for us! Kudos to you guys!
Yes.... highly recommned that u get his lecture notes. Get it from the man himself and get it signed. hehe lol. Killer stuff. I may not be so much of a notes person... but hehe thank God I have Andrew to help out and discuss with. Planning to meet him again soon to talk abt the tricks in the lecture notes!
Cheers!
Brendan

A BIG THANK YOU to Erik and Vincent.(he treat me dinner yesterday night and dirve me home:))
guess how many times i witness his total coincidence, do as i do(his version), and some really cool tricks again and again and unable to catch the secret.
I'll start reading books because of him :)
he spread the card on table, Brendan pick a card and the card was found underbrendan's seat~!
And his presentation and acting is good. really good. I was fooled. :) very, very badly.

hi every one, sorry fir this way way way too late reply. my one month exam is really suffering. anyway, back to the reviews. wat i can say is, we ALL were flat, speechless, dumdfound n etc. Even there r few card magicians there, NO one can figure how it was done o expect wat to happen. truely amazing! what Mr Erik really focuses out is presentation n build up. that is wat most important in performing magic.
the one trick from mr erik that impresses me most is that he shuffled his deck and left it by the side.he then ask for another deck(not erik's own deck) from a spectator n asked the spec to shuffle it. At the same time he asked the 3rd spec to think of a num between 1-52. a number was chosen. he then ribbon spread the second shuffled deck on the table. he moved a pencil over the top and asked a spec to say stop. he move the pencil straight down n it touches a card (which is 6 of heart in this case). then, the magic comes, he count down HIS own deck to the number which was chosen by the spec and the card at that number. is EXACTLY the same as the pencil picked card. S!@#!!
apart from that, what i can say for the mask changing performance is just... 2 thumbs up from me. Really smooth, Xtremely Fast, n most impressive, NOT angle sensitive. HAHA.
All i can say is that, this lecture really showed n taught me alot. I've changed some of my performance routine and methods. This is surely a well worth it lecture.
