Title: Impromptu Coin Vanish
Description: What type do you do?

Jarrett Goh - March 25, 2006 05:14 PM (GMT)
Mr.James Tong inspired me to do coin magic coz its so impromptu and innocent!Anyways there are many coin vanishes using raven, etc but wht type of IMPROMPTU coin vanish do you do.No exposure pls, just the name,if you create one.Pls do write us the effect thx...My favorite coin vanish is my creation.I hold my hand into a fist a hold the coin between my index and thumb curled up to hold the coin.My middle finger then pushes the whole coin into my hand and then it magically vanishes...both hands are not holding or hiding any coins at all!So post yours!Love to hear about your type of fave vanish

I saw Jarrett performing that one and he is very good in that vanish. I should say that it is very creative and it is his innovated original.

That's why he looks so cool with the sunglasses on.

I suspected he is rolling the coins with his eyeballs - secret training in progress and hidng behind his sunglasses. So when he is practising no one knows at all.

I wonder how his eyes look like when he removes the sunglasses.

Anyone saw him without his sunglasses before? Got black eye (because of rolling the coins secretly) like Panda bear?

he'll look younger ;)

well as most of you gus know i'm so damn freakin skinny that there's no way i can perform a coin back P**m/ back c**p
thus what i can do is retention vanish, fake take, french drop and those basic stuffs
and my favourite is down palm vanish and production at finger tips.

Jarrett Goh - March 26, 2006 10:23 AM (GMT)
I'll look much younger,I'm trying to change my fashion though.no more plain T-shirts haha.French drop is awesome, looks very realistic.Visual too.Lai,youre not that thin what,ok,maybe you are but at least not as thin as me haha

Secret training in progress!Rolling the coin?haha

coin vanish?? i do Revolution all the time.. :)

Jarrett Goh - March 26, 2006 02:20 PM (GMT)
One prob about revolution is that I dont have many pants that can do revolution...though its visual I think its not really a so called "impromptu" coin vanish as far as I'm concerned. The revolution is more like king rising as its not considered an "impromptu" levitation...but its very creative though.keep it up Kevin Parker!

Most of the popular coin vanishes that look so good on video have the disadvantage of having terrible angles. You can do them for people in front of you but someone on the side sees the method. I don't use them.

Instead I use moves that are almost angle proof. A retention vanish which is nearly angle proof is the Universal Retention Vanish. An acquitment (secret hand to hand transfer) which is also nearly angle proof is the Flying Changeover Palm. Together the two moves will allow you to convincingly vanish a coin and then show both hands empty while still concealing the coin.

These take practice. However, rather than spending your time trying to get the best muscle pass, use that time to learn some really powerful sleight of hand. Where can you find out how to do this? It's not in Bobo, Expert Coin Magic, or Kaufman's Coin Magic and there is no video that will teach you this. There is only one source and that's in the book I wrote called 21st Century Coin Mechanics . You can't buy this in a magic store. It is only obtainable through me and I only sell to magicians and not curiosity seekers. Click the link below to get addition information and check some of the sample video clips to see some of what you can learn.

This clip of Gone looks very nice on video. So does another clip called Middle of Nowhere which is also on Youtube. The problem with these vanishes is they are not impromptu and require gimmicks. Someone can't just give you a coin and with no preparation perform it. They are also angly and in your choice of what you wear is limited in some cases. If you can live with those restrictions then these may be OK for you.
I've been doing magic for more than 40 years and I find people are reinventing old ideas as their own and selling them as original. There are two nice effects that have been on the market that are gimmicks that can allow for the most amazing coin vanishes and reproductions. One is NUSINUD by Jeff Stewart and other is Fickle Nickel by John Cornelius (inventor of the "coin that falls up" and popularized the muscle pass). They are not expensive and most dealers carry them.

I laos LOVE doing lapping.I always do it at a restaurant. Its just such a visual vanish and there are so many ways to reproduce the coin at any way you want

yeah, my favourite vanish is simply the French Drop. but the best I can tell is Revolution. but the effect is overhyped. they (E) mentioned it is completely impromptu. but it's not. just like the king rising. it's not impromptu. there's a clothing restriction.

i hope this does not lead to exposure.

Amane - November 8, 2006 09:24 AM (GMT)
Revolution huh...
looks good on camera
mainly because the camera is focusing on that area
I can't imagine performing it to normal people, vanishing a coin near my crotch area...
it's just not cool............ XD

haha yes that's true. what would the spectator think when you are lowering your hand to the belt area? it's just weird. i've tried it in front of a mirror (that'd be the spectator's view) and it totally sucks but it's still amazing. ('sucks': that means I have to get a new dark-black jeans like Brad Christian wears in the demo video).

DesiWN - November 23, 2006 12:28 PM (GMT)
revolution would be the best impromptu effect that i use for coin vanish but to me i still prefer the raven, i did revolution and my fren thought i throw it to the ground, he searched the ground but no coin & was confused, only thing about revolution, vanishing coin on spectators hand is not possible, i normally use raven if i wan to vanish a coin from spectators hand

You dont really need dark jeans as long as you know your angles should be ok, i did it on a normal blue jeans & got away with it, only thing is do not do it more than once to the same person

David Loh - November 30, 2006 05:58 AM (GMT)
Hmm I use revolution alot and actually came up with a way around
the clothing restriction, and also the weird hand positioning. Any of
you intrested to in a better way of revolution, do PM me.

As for coin vanish, I usually start (one handed) by showing both
sides of my hand empty with fingers fully stretched and no movements,
just twisting my arm to show both sides empty. Then close to a fist
and open, voila a coin appears. Next I'll hold it the coin between the tips
of my index and thumb. Blow on it and the coin instantly disappear leaving
my hand totally empty. My favourite short routine. No name for it yet
though...
