Title: Help Wanted: Cash
Description: any tips of earning extra pocket money
KenophLai - April 8, 2006 07:37 AM (GMT)
Of course we can walk on street, borrow a hunred ringgit bill, switch it to one ringgit and return.(or the other way round, and request a thousand from the stranger). Of course we can take three cards and earn some easy money during pasar malam. BUT i don't want to do something like that.
I'm still studying and I'm using my parents money. And i don't want to spend their money on magic. So any suggestions on earning extra pocket money during weekends?

Lai. it is hard for anyone to give you opinions or tips because we do not know exactly what you can do in magic - what your level of skill is and what kind of performing experience you have.
Performing 3 card monte in pasar malam is suicide for you. DON'T EVER DO IT!!! Those that are doing it are syndicates - they don't work alone and they have a team of back-ups to protect them. You are moving into danger zone if you venture into it.
DON'T EVEN THINK OF USING T.T TO TURN RM50 INTO RM1!!!
Some so-called magician in M'sia has been doing it everywhere and I heard that those people that have been conned are looking for that joker now.
I have been advising many new comers in magic not to focus on cards or flourishes only, or closeup only but to be an all-rounder - but because of their love for the art of flourishing or card magic only (nothing wrong with that) - they get caught in a situation where they need extra-pocket money and they are not in a position to even earn money from magic - but they want to earn the money from magic.
Lai, tell me what you can do - and let's see whether you are in a position to make money from magic. If you are not ready for professional work and you need money badly - I suggest that you get some part time weekend jobs.

Lai, you can just call me James Tong - calling me UNCLE James makes me look and feel very very very OLD. I'm still young at heart, you know. Will not admit that I am getting old.
