Hi i_neveregret,
If you are willing to invest your time in reading magic books, then just go for it these series of card college.
If you are want to fast learning type, then I would recommend Daryl's Encyclopedia of card sleights.
The options depend on you. ^_^
These series of card college are good and awesome but yet, you have to reread sometimes in order to get the sleights or handling properly which sometimes magicians find frustrating here.
Why not get the Jerry Mentzer's 'Counts, Cuts, Moves & Subtlety'???? This book is excellent and practical sleights. All the sleights you learn in this booklet, you will find that most of these moves are used in the modern card magic.
Anyway, this are just my opinions ONLY. ^_^
All the best,
Andrew

Hi.
Just want to add my comments here since I have bought Card College 1.
If you find it easy to read and understand detailed instructions from a book, by all means go ahead. The book has very good illustrations (no photos, just hand-drawn pictures). The explanations are very precise, down to the exact hand and finger placements when holding the cards.
However if you find it tedious and time-consuming to learn from a book, I would suggest you find a DVD instead. Actually for myself personally, I would prefer learning from watching a DVD. It makes things so much easier to understand when you can see what's going on and follow the action.
Hope this helps. Thanks. :D

I always prefer DVDs rather than books even though books are wat i started with. I mean, if it is a good book, then by all means go ahead. If u are literate abt all the magic terms and moves then i believe books are a great way. I know people like Andrew who just loves going thru his magic books coz he just know most of the moves mentioned there. DVDs i like coz they show u the handling which to me is very important as i get to see how the trick is actually done rather than using my own imagination which might be wrong lol :P.

Yep... The Card College book series is great- it's easy to learn from, with clear illustrations and one thing I like about books, is that you actually learn much more than from a DVD. Really! A disc might run only about 100 mins of tutorials but a good book can teach you much more... also, because you read, you run your creative juices visualising it rather than just passively absorbing the information from the TV or PC screen... ^_^

Absolutely correct, I am agree with Ning! ^_^
Reading magic book I must admit needs lots of patience and lots of researching.
Sometimes you may come across the sleights that you are not familiar with and you have to research, buying other books to learn that sleights. Otherwise, the previous effect you stop at you would be 'hanging' there. Thus, this will waste your time of reading that effect and just give up like that! :(
This sounds not good!
I usually finish the effect that I am reading and start to play around with it, sometimes, creative idea will just pops up my mind and I came up quite a lot of variations of the original effects.
As I also don't like to follow the author's effect exactly the same which listed in the book. B)

The Card College series are the best investment i've made so far....
Every detail of finger position, pressure given to the cards, grip, hands movements..etc are given...
And checkpoints to make sure what mistakes magicians normally make and how to correct them....etc
But a little bit ex if you wanna buy the whole series...
Good luck!

Hi Eric,
Yeah! I plan to purchase these volumes of book in the past, but I can't afford of the price of the books as well as the shipping costs! :(
It kills me!!! - The shipping is nearly as expensive as the books.
But, overall, these series of books are a MUST for card magicians.
