Title: Review of June 3rd MMF Mini Convention
KenophLai - June 3, 2006 05:31 PM (GMT)
I enjoyed the whole convention thing very much.
the longest jamming session i ever had, 12~12, a 12 hours jamming session with tons of magic performances and fun.
1stly i must thank the MMF mods for organising this event and James for being so kind and generous to provide us with the place and lecture. I learned a lot from the lecture, thanks James :) .
For me it's a very interesting experience to meet with the SMC guys(My fork bending "master" Aloy and "the one" who made me quit cards, Huron. and not forgeting Ning, the little magic shop mistress who still remember my balloon swallowing effect that i performed 2 years ago :P) and having them to witness my improvements. :) i hope i improved quite a bit since then.
the performances was great, we had a list of guys like "the manipulator" Chalston and James.Cups adn balls by kevin,"Sc Monte"Samuel Chong did his Monte and it was very well done. The "cardician" Brenden, forrest and Darren performed some card effects and the mentalist: Pambudi whom gave a lecture, David Lai did a card effect, Jeff Gan did a miracle with "WIND" adn book test and my favourite mentalist Baalan doing his "for andruzzi".(he stopped david's pulse!!!).
Oh ya i did my linking rings also.
then we went to MRT and had dinner.
more lame tricks
and i had a very nice experience performing for those in MRT. :ph43r:
My mind is kinda blocked and i got to sleep and prepare for my exam tml. Hope to see ya guys soon.
Developing my cups and balls routine after the exam.
And also a very special manipulation act that've been working on.
Will show ya guys next year.During the next MMF convention. :)
be prepared to clap when i ask for it.
Ignatius - June 3, 2006 05:33 PM (GMT)
There And Back Again.... Not Bad.

Sukyi - June 3, 2006 09:03 PM (GMT)
thanks to all the mods! job well done! :)
i had a fun day... especially at MTR and velvet underground(we didn't end up going to zouk)...
to those who were at velvet: shh.. don't say anything.. ;)
Sukyi - June 3, 2006 10:11 PM (GMT)

cschee - June 4, 2006 01:52 AM (GMT)
u guys dint take any picture to me see >.<? :(
Jeff Gan - June 4, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)
wow. I had a really great time.
I'll leave it to the others to give you the intinerary, but I need to thank some people.
Thanks to James for usage of your venue, and the lecture and your time and patience with us for fumbling a bit with the organisation of the gathering.
Thank you very much.
Thanks to the SMC guys, for coming all the way to KL to attend our "ahem" convention,...I just hope you enjoyed yourself and your trip was not wasted. It was really good meeting you guys, like Aloy said, it was a meeting of old friends for the very first time. And I sincerely hope that this is the 1st of many many more joint MMF-SMC gatherings to come. And you guys damn skilled !!!! Have a safe journey home.
Pambudi, I havent laughed so hard in a long time. Thank you sir. And thanks for a wonderful lecture and the value for money props. I wish I had bought more stuff.
And for the MMF ( Mickey Mouse Fellowship :P ) guys who came and graced us with your participation, performance, I feel very honored. Thanks Samuel for making the trip from Penang to attend our gathering.
To David Lai & Sukyi for helping the SMC guys get around KL.
Big thanks to Wee (Vision) for arranging for the discounts & seating for us at the MTR. Much appreciated.
TO those who went to err..Velvet was it?, thanks for representing the MMF to show those SMC guys that although we look a bit geeky, not all of us are geeks. :D    ^_^
Special thanks to the guys who helped clean up after the gathering Jack, Ignatius & Kamil. Thanks so very much.
Now in typical Mickey Mouse Fellowship style, let's bring this gathering to a close...
"now its time to say goodbye to all our company....
M, I C,.....
K, E Y.......
M,O,U,S,E
(yes, I'm one of those old enough to remember the song...)
David Lai - June 4, 2006 11:38 AM (GMT)
The meeting was great, everybody was great and I am not GAY.seriously.....no,seeeeriously.
Ignatius - June 4, 2006 02:01 PM (GMT)
I don't feel like remembering the whole thing then write big review about it. So, I'd be just chatting snippets of the meet. Hope you guys don't mind. First, I'd like to say "Nice to have met all of you guys!". ATM, I'd like to quote one of the best lines of that day:
| QUOTE |
| *after end of show*... Thank you all, if you like my show, I am Pambudi. If not, I am David Lai! |
David's reaction was priceless. That made my day. :P
Edit: BTW, when did the gay reference began already ar? I've forgotten.

At MTR.
Kam - June 4, 2006 03:05 PM (GMT)
God damn it was amazing... I love each and everyone of you guys. In a non threatening and sexual way.
Sukyi - June 4, 2006 03:38 PM (GMT)
lol... where's the cassanova? mods... can we change their nicks to "Gay" and "Cassanova"... hahaha... had loads of fun with you guys...
David's gonna hate me soon... haha...
like what Larry's been telling me "you're gonna slap me one day... but that day is not today"
highlight of my day... convo with Cassanova:
Cassanova: you're the only girl in mmf, right?
Me: yeah
Cassanova: So, what's it like to be the center of attention to all these desperate men?
hahahaha... i didn't answer him!
Andrew Loh - June 4, 2006 03:43 PM (GMT)
Hi folks,
I just met up my buddy Brendan and he told me that everyone enjoyed the event and on top of that, I would like to say 'thanks' to Brendan for sharing some of the clips of you guys performed at the event which I did't have the chance to witness you guys' performances especially you guys from Singapore such as Aloy, Ning, Huron, etc.
I just watched a few clips. I watched the first clip, Brendan's performance, yeah, this guy always tell me he likes John Guastaferro, no wonder, the other day, he was "John Guastaferro" day. This guy always like to kill ppl with his card transposition magic as well as transformation. -
To Jeff Gan, I would say you fooled me something badly about your mentalism and I understood that this is your first time performing magic mentalism, I would say "It's very good" and you were quite funny too at the beginning. :P - Keep up the good work buddy!!!! :)
To Lai, wow, you linking ring really impressed me of your skills in handling those rings, really...... mind boggling! :D - Very Good!!!
Charlston, yes, this guy is very funny, I am impress of your card manipulations as well as your cigarette routine. It was excellent. ;)
Well, that's all I know from these clips, I just got the chance to watch you other guys 'yelling' and 'laughing' all the way in the event, I thinked you guys must be very enjoyed.
Cheers,
Andrew
David Lai - June 4, 2006 03:43 PM (GMT)
 this is going to be bad day for me man....haiz
Brendan Low - June 4, 2006 03:59 PM (GMT)
Guys, that had to be one of the longest and most enjoyable time of magic sessions I ever attended.
It wasn't just another magic gathering, the one we have been doing monthly or bi-monthly. It was MMF's very first Magic Convention and it turn out to be a successful one.
Wow... I got so much testimonials to write abt the great time we had but I will just keep in short here. If you want to know more perhaps you can talk with one of those whom went.
Firstly I like to say a BIG thank you to James Tong for the venue. It was a nice room size and it really was a nice setting for magic lecture.
I love to THANK all mods/admin everyone who contributed in their own ways to make the day a successful one. Thanks Kam for being the MC of the event. Also thanks to all the performers who showcase their talents. Some wonderful magic and showmanship :) Awesome.
Also THANKS to our two lecturers, Pambudi and James Tong. Pambudi had some crazy mentalism effects to share with us, he was very jovial and entertaining to see him perform. James Tong shared with us some gems of becoming a real performer. How to stand out, how to work your way from being a normal magician to become an entertainer. It was really cool to see him performing some of his very own fans and variations of it. Wow..really enjoyed both the lectures. :)
Dinner at MTR was fantastic. I really enjoyed my meal and the entertainment in the restaurant. Robin and Pambudi did a great job entertaing the customers. I could see great audience participation and involvement throughout. V nice feeling :). Also very proud to see MMF very own Lai performing his fantastic Linking Rings routines to several tables. Gals were screaming and could see everyone being entertain. The atmosphere in MTR was definately ON. v cool. B)
Wow.. lots more to say... but i'll leave it for others to give their reviews. :D
Aloy - June 4, 2006 04:21 PM (GMT)
Just a quick note before my brain dies. We have all arrived safely back in SG. So no worries David and Dawn, we did managed to catch the bus. ;)
Fabulous. Fantastic. Incredible. Amazing. Wonderful. Awesome.
All these are understatements of the time we had yesterday! What a meeting it was. It is so great to finally put a face to all the "old friends", and like I said, it's the strangest feeling of meeting old friends for the 1st time. B)
There's so much to talk about i have no idea where to begin. The performances, the jamming, the lectures, the dinner, the antics....I believe nobody didn't have fun. And I believe nobody didn't gained or learnt something from it. It's just wow. B)
And for the thanks.....again. I just can't appreciate the people enough.
I want to thank Jeff Gan again for the tremendous job well done in getting this together. Your selfless contributions in terms of time, money and effort cannot be over-emphasised. It is really very much appreciated. Thanks very much!
Thanks to all the people who was helping out with the organisation of the meeting, taking care of all the logistics and fetching the food. Other than Brendan and Kam, I know many of you, balaan and others also helped out a lot for this event. Thank you very much for doing this guys!
Thanks to the lecturers, Pambudi and James Tong, and James for the use of the venue. I am absolutely confident that everyone has learnt a great deal of previously never explored aspect of magic from the lectures.
Thanks to Wee for affording us the reservations at the MTR, and giving us a great venue for after dinner jamming and just wild sessioning.
And finally but definitely not least, on behalf of the whole Singapore group, we would like to thank David Lai and Dawn for the generous hospitality you guys have extended to us! Without you guys, we would be totally lost!
Thanks to David for arranging the very nice accomodation (so nice that i almost wish i had more time to enjoy it) for us and the help in guiding our journey thru-out. David and Dawn has been our most patient and efficient guides and chauffeurs for the 2 days, losing petrol and sleep just to make sure that we could get around and have all the fun that we could have.
Thank you guys so much! It is really heart-felt appreciated although we didn't have time to say it today because we were running for the bus.
Drop us a note anytime you guys are coming down to Singapore and let us return the favour. :)
Wow. What a trip it has been. And i have over 120 photos to prove it. Although looking at them now, I wished i had take more photos with more of you guys. And I'm sure there are more from the other photographers too. I'll arrange for a place to host it all later.
More stories and commentries later.
Need to crash now.
Cheers
Andrew Lee - June 4, 2006 04:50 PM (GMT)

Was great having you guys here... had alot of fun... although, today i was quite blur due to the uh... no sleep? hope i'll be able to visit singapore and see you guys when i'm back next year!
Ignatius - June 4, 2006 05:47 PM (GMT)
Eh, real name finally revealed? Or do you guys want to reedit your posts? Well, at least people will stop linking you with:

Ok shift topic, definitely Lai's linking rings is the best of show.

Sukyi - June 4, 2006 06:01 PM (GMT)
lol... sukyi's my real name la! just that... dawn is my middle name :P
Kam - June 4, 2006 09:38 PM (GMT)
I can't over emphasize enough either how much work Jeff Gan has put in to the event. It was amazing amazing amazing to see the kind of selfless contribution by him for magic. I would like to propose his status to be a deity.
The magic was mind numbing. HURON fooled EEEEEVERYONE badly with his card to pocket HAHAHAHA man and it was done surrounded! His card to everywhere kicks our collective bottoms! JEFF GAN did one hell of an entertaining set. His wind and sacrifice joke killed me. And of course as we all should have experienced, the other VERY VERY entertaning performance was by Pambudi. "Are you happy? I'm Pambudi" HAHAHHAHAHAH oh my god those jokes are still killing me now, and it's 5:30 am in the morning! FORREST LIM and SAMUEL CHONG (who, dude, you don't look anything like your pic!) fooled many of us with their card tricks. Everyone else performed great as well, and Lai's Linking Ring was even honored especially by James Tong.
It was a freaking great night, probably the best night since the first ever MMF outing (which is on June 1st 12 months ago), so yeah... we should do this again some time! :) You guys got better and better each time! Much much thanks for the invaluable experience and get me all excited again!
And where are the pics? Post em post em post em!
Forrest Lim - June 5, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
I learnt a lot from this convention (not just from the lecture itself but from everyone of you). Glad to met a lot of talent guys as well. All of you practice hard, as I can seen and you all are the best.
Aloy - June 5, 2006 02:19 AM (GMT)
We in Singapore are very used to Pam's hilarious 1 liners but he has added a few this time round. My fav:
Pam aka Foo Ling You: Can I get the cups and balls guy to come help me?
Pam: I'm sorry, I shouldn't call you the cups and balls guy. You should have a name. What is your name?
Kevin: Kevin. My name is Kevin.
Pam: Everybody, give a big round of applause for cups and balls guy!
Huron has also shared about how overwhelmed he was by the attention he got from everyone and how much he enjoyed jamming with all you guys. I should let him say his bits but I dunno how long before he finally find his way into here...
And Lai has been the best surprise! He has improved so very much since the Singapore NCSS performance it wasn't funny! His linking rings routine. My gosh! That was the best small linking rings routine I've seen live! His 1 handed link is 100% successful, and his twirling link is the most creative move I've seen with these rings. Very very well done mate. ^_^
I'll set up some space for photo sharing tonight. More stories everyone! I'm sure there were plenty of little stories from the little groups that was happening everywhere :)
Ignatius - June 5, 2006 07:18 AM (GMT)
Ah yeah, big thanks to Jeff Gan and crew for the handling and behind the scenes work and being the tour guide to most things I am not familiar with.
It's nice watching the ideas on modification and presentation of tricks (I detected a lot of things but I had decided to focus on looking from a presentational point of view that day). The only guy who really caught me off guard was Huron. He is definitely a complete quality cardician who only can just add materials to his repertoire without needing to learn anything else.
Would have liked to show back a few of my stuff but I haven't been practising lately. I rather not show than show a sub-parred quality performance (My personal principle so don't be bothered by this).
And Charleston, how did the cigarette taste? Nice performance. I wished you extend it till the end of the song or had the song edited. xD
And all you other guys, wait for the video of Jack Liw, he did a wonderful marvellous astounding and incredibly amazing effect for us after we left MTR............ ssshhh :P
KenophLai - June 5, 2006 08:05 AM (GMT)
thanks guys for the compliment...i really appreciate 'em. :)
we should give Jeff Gan a treat. When is the next meeting? :P

Sukyi,
Yes.. yes.. Sukyi, your Casanova reporting for duty, *smiles*. I’ve been busy whole Sunday attending a friends wedding. Hasn’t had the time to log on to MMF.
My apologies to you Sukyi, David Lai, Ning, Aloy and the rest of the SMG boys for not being able to join you guys at Zouk / Velvet as promised. I had to attend to a friend’s wedding on Sunday morning, which I’ve almost forgotten. After driving James Tong and Samuel home. I headed home catch some sleep.
Is sad that you will be leaving for Texas soon. We will all miss you! Especially, Mr. Casanova.
MMF & SMG,
Honestly, the convention was better than I expected. It made me feel like we are all ONE, as in a family.
Even thought I didn’t really get to know everyone of you, but to those that I hung out with at the convention and at MTR during dinner, you guys are a bunch of cool cats!
Girl Power! – Sukyi & Ning you gals are hilarious.
David Lai – Who told you Zouk closes at 1 a.m? You must have mistaken for the gay bars man!
James Tong.- Thank you so much for letting us use your venue!
Pambudi – Mr Foo Ling You! You are the coolest of them all!
Jeff Gan.- Couldn’t thank you enough for the hours & effort you have put in to make this event a great success
Lai – Your Linking Rings routine is mind blowing.
To all that I’ve met – Hope to catch up with you guys soon.
David Lai - June 5, 2006 09:27 AM (GMT)
Aiy,stop withe the gay thing man!I`m here sewing your m5 velcro strap ok!haha, and they say guys don`t sew.
The meeting was fantastic, really it was,One of my highlights of the year.Met so many new faces and friends. This is some of my experience from the whole trip.
Samuel-from chatting in msn, thought that is guy is s super serious dude, but turened out to be one hell of a chap.way cool and hahahaha, wild man.Really he is.A great guy to chat with, with a superb sense of humour. In the end we both felt like tag teaming to hit Huron for making our tongues stick out the whole night....
Lai-This guy,the first thing when I entered the room, there was one guy waving his hands back and forth,I was like thiking who was this man??Did I forget someone,he was just waving to me and I din`t know, sorry dude, din`t realise that it was you.really a talented entertainer, like your enthusiasm and passion for magic.Seldon do I see someone so passionate to perform. This reminds me of the joke I shared with kamil sometime ago`How do you get a magician to show you a hundred tricks?...ask him to show you one.'
Darren-your card magic still amaze me as ever.I still remember the 1st time meeting you up,two years ago and you showed me RESET and I was super impressed. It was the same at the convention. Thanks for the supplies you provided me that day.Appreciate it.
To the Singaporeans, you guys were a great bunch.Really you were.Huron, you rock man and we really had a good time at zouk checking out the chick factor there.Guess there`s many other things that we share the same interest apart from magic.Too bad we din`t have enough time to jam around and we did most of it in the car.NING,you were super sweet and thanks alot for the props you brought down, appreciate it a lot and you were just super sweet all the way. Thanks for being such a nice person.Larry, hope to meet up with you in a few months at the inaugral cheerleading competition and Aloy, dude, when you come down here at least let me treat you man,you keep on asking to pay for my tolls, makan and everything, haha,I feel embarassed man because I`m the one who is suppose to treat you guys as guest. You are really a great person to know and I`m glad I got the oppourtunity to bring you around KL.I`m really happy that we both see eye to eye on the magic situation in our respective countries.I still owe you money man,damn!haha...and of course,to the singaporeans and dawn,we will never forget the time we spent at times square eating lunch and chatting,I laughed to hard that time I almost threw up man.haha.
Remus-dude,this is one cool dude.we talked about stuff that shoudln`t be even mentioned in a magic convention.haha, and Larry was asking who`s this dude man talking about...you know what during makan time.Anyway, you got to tone down man,Cherene called me in Us last night to ask me again whether you`re cheating on her man...dude,1 is sometimes enough man.
Baalan, you deserve the gay title man, your shoelaces were pink!!what the hell?Haha, miss you dude, its been a long time since I saw you and you still look great and your car is as messy as ever.Kamil, you did a great job as the MC,impromtu as ever,Jeff for making everything work so smoothly and sorry to cause the delay on the transportation aspect.Your permance was good and you really do fit the character of the GOD FATHER.James, for giving out his nice place and for telling me to put my magic props in the boot or not my car will get smashed and my props will all the gone.
All in all,I really do think that everybody was great at the convention.I had a blast and I have yet to see anyone not having a good time.I learned a lot, spent a BOMB,met so many new people and made so many friends.I really hope that this convention is a yearly event and the standards will keep on going up each year.Take care you guys and hope to see you soon. One of the best lines I heard at the convention:
Samuel-`RM 100 everything'
Remus-`What all of it??!'
You gotta be there to get the joke,I really laughed at this.haha.Peace out
-David-
PS:Aloy & NING,I still owe you man,cu in Singapore soon.=)

If you have photos of the day, please drop me a PM stating:
1) The number of photos you have
2) The total size of the photos in MBs
3) The number of videos you have
4) The total size of the videos (after reducing the size for web)
Actually for the videos, I think the better way is to share via youtube. But we shall see how it goes.

LarryDK - June 5, 2006 04:36 PM (GMT)
Hello Malayisa!!
Here i am, Larry from SMC. Finally, some ppl can see my post liao. It is hell long that i post something here. First of all, my apologises for not appearing in this forum until now. Second, thanks for all the things that you guys did to us for this 3 days trip.
Lai, dun give up card la, its not a bad thing, see, at least see it as an inspiration form huron to improve on cards. But ur linking ring really kills.
Anyway, my review for the 3 days. Its not enough man, i even suggested i stayed longer but too bad, the rest cant stay. Haha!! Anyway, thanks David and Dawn/Sukyi for the travel and guide around, believe it or not, i only sit in david car and not sukyi. But its surprisingly to see that David, driving at normal speed with a sports car, and Sukyi, keep driving faster and faster using a normal car. And seriously, she is one hell of a gal. Haha!!
REM, the gal driver that stops at the RIGHT LANE!! Thats SUKYI!!!! Okie okie, one day she will slap me, but it can be today, but u cant reach me. HAHA!! Try harder, babe.
Okie okie, meet up the rest at James Tong's place, really appreciate that, Mr James, and its great that someone provide the place, in singapore, we have a hard time getting a place to jam.
Anyway, the effects are strong, everyone did well. Linking rings was great, the card effects was great, so lucky that i din go up to perform, will be a joke man. I learnt alot, even though Pambudi from singapore, but his lecture is always refreshing to me. And Mr James lecture is one unique lecture. I never know that a MICROFIBER cloth can do so much. Now i know, will get it soon.
After that is the MTR!!! Wow, food is great, the performance is good, and neverthless, Mr Pam's routine is still a killer, even to me. Haha!! I have a good time going around. Too bad, dun have the chance to really visit Sunway Pyrimad. Haha!! But the after MTR event, we went for greater fun.. Haha!! And ZOUK in Malaysia is FAR better than SINGAPORE!! Ah yo.. but we sure enjoyed ourself man.
The last day, David came as a surprise, cause i din expect him to come and send us off. But he did, he became our tour guide and bring us around and to time square to see those magic shops and tour. Well, I really appreciate that singapore's travel is faster than Malaysia.. But we still have our bit of fun.
And Miss Sukyi, wearing a shirt that she shouldnt wear to a church, Ah yo, Nxt time dun anyhow wear la, i wonder what will happen if the pastor saw u in that shirt. Haha!! Anyway, we joked alot and i keep saying that she can slap me, but not today, and she really din le. See, i am going to be a good mentalist. Haha!!
Anyway, great to see u guys, i will start posting my views in this forum le.. Hehe.. See you guys soon.
Sukyi - June 5, 2006 05:41 PM (GMT)
hahaha... larry still waiting for me to slap you, is it?
