Title: What Is Magic?
Description: what your point of view?

I'm not sure if someone has posted and found someone on other forums post this.

Had you ever been question about this, after your performance?

Is that alright to share what you feel about magic. We could all use a little help next time we have to explain it.

Hmm. No replies, eh. Being new and all, I'd like to express my view on this thing called magic. Hmm, magic to me is the ability to convince people that something is happening when it's not. Skill (which is what I'm lacking) as a magician is of course needed, but if you know every sleight known to magicians, have super quick hands, and the ability to perform lots and lots of impossible tricks, yet people still aren't convinced or impressed... You're missing the whole point of being a magician. Like what Brad Christian once said, "I never have a problem doing really, really simple stuff. Use any kind of simple, simple trick as long as you get an incredible end result. And this is what you'll see Blaine do over and over again with the Balducci levitation". So even if you don't have (much) skill, yet you can convince people into believing your magic is real, you're a magician.

That's my point of view. What's yours? ^_^

Magic happens not in our hands or gimmicks, but in the eyes of the spectators. They do not know how difficult or easy it is to perform a trick, all they will see is the effect. Hence, a simple trick which is more visual may leave a greater impression than a difficult trick which no one really understands.

Yes, simple magic impresses laymen. A lot of self working tricks also amazes laymen. Magicians too sometime dont get it. :P

On the other hand, magic utilizing various slieghts is attractive IMO. I guess I'm a person who enjoy watching a tricks which uses sleights rather than self working ones.

But yeah.. simple is good! :P

"Magic" magic.

Point of view will change every time you know more.
Everyone have their own view.

This make "magic" magic.

i agree with Rizal..my opinion, magic is the ability to convince the spectator(s) that something that is not logically possible, is taking form right in front of their eyes. I have to admit, that feeling you get when someone says its real magic (or call you satan's son), is my personal high.

I also think that the "magic" happens when you are able to take a person out of his monotonous day-in, day-out routine, of his life, and just for a few moments take him/her back to the sense of wonder, amazement, and excitement he/ she felt when they were babies.

That to me, is Magic.
