OK, I'm not sure if it was a flourish or a magic, so I'll just leave it here on Card Magic (as opposed to Flourish part).

Here are my comments:

1. First and foremost, please lose or at least change the music! Sorry man, but that song really got on my nerves. It might just be my preference, but just the weekends I went to BOTY 2006 (it's a breakdance comp.) and that song was played over and over.

2. The negative effect is a cliche, I'd really prefer if you use no effect at all. Ya know, to make it MORE real (if anything) and for a clearer picture. This shows especially when you do your Ambitious Card routine.

3. Your moves are pretty smooth, so keep it up! :)

Like Kam said abt the inverted or negative look. It looks good only in certain types of vids especially when u have good quality camera. if not, best to stick to normal view.

I guess, just work on smoothness and make ya video flow. If it is cards, keep it all cards. Also shorten ya vid a lil if possible. Short hard impact magic vids are the best IMO.

Abt ur Cobra, keep working on it... yeah the balancing part takes some time to get a feel of it. I normally do Cobra cuts with like half to a third of a deck.

Keep it up.

Cheers,
Brendan

Hey dude,

Sorry if i going to too direct on this. Since not of them commented on your moves other than your cobra, which really need to work on it. But I going to burn down on your other moves.

The first few changes are good, the shapeshifter, and DL shapeshifter is ok, but cant see much due to the reverse color effect. As for your Ed Marlo color change, i wont suggest going towards that angle, but you showing for the camera, so i fine with the change. Be more smooth abt it.

Your second view is natural camera color, so you did a color change, then a wink change (Correct me if i am wrong), but the second change was good in hiding, but not smooth in the change. You should see David Copperfield's grandfather aces, it shows how he did the change. (I dun expect you to do like him la, but his smoothness is what we should learn)

Third thing is the coin matrix, your first steal was too harsh, you need to be more gentle in placing the card while you steal the coin. To me, the effect will look neater if you open the cards slower, then suddenly open so fast, because your rest of the actions are slow, only that is fast. So something to take note loh.

As for all this, its from my point of view. I not saying you are not good, you are good, juz lack of the smoothness like the rest mention. And i also dont like the song.

basically, as the rest said... lack of smoothness... you got the moves... just maybe your timing is off... the negative effect just wasn't done right... as brendan said, it's a very cliche thing to do... but if done well, even the cliches can be well presented... your's just looked weird... and like the rest... the song annoyed the hell out of me

Andrew Ang - July 19, 2006 08:19 AM (GMT)
Yeah..i messed up wif the wink change
<_<
and..what u mean by "to harsh"..i dont get it ;)
hmm...why so many people hate that song
haha watever..thx for the advice Larry

Andrew, harsh in larry's context means "rough"

Basically, Larry was saying.. be looser on ya hands with the cards. Give it more gentle touch. The motion of the matrix could be improved. Jerk only when u have to.

Switching cards after the "secret move" would make it more convincing. Wasnt that taught in whichever vid you learnt this from? Penguin magic eh? Or maybe I got this idea from somewhere else.

Anyway... 5 months experience and can perform quick a number of effects already... pretty good! Keep it up man.

Oh..thx for explaining Brendan
