Title: Rubber Band Magic

Jeremy Soon - July 22, 2006 04:04 PM (GMT)
How many of you magicians out there do rubber band magic?

Rubber bands are really excellent impromptu magic as they people are so familiar with them and you can perform with them anytime and anywhere.
Most of the table hopping magicians uses rubber band as a part of their performance.

I known there are a few dvds on rubber bands magic. The two dvds that I know who teaches rubber band magic is Joe Rindfleisch and Dan Harland. These two can really do amazing magic with rubber bands but some of the effects are quite disgusting :o .

One of the most popular effect I known which is popularised by David Copperfield is Michael Ammar 'Crazy Man's Handcuff'. I am still searching for stronger and more visual rubber band magic.

Is there any of you that do rubber bands magic and would like to share a few ideas and views on performing rubber band magic?

In my opinion, crazy man's handcuffs is the best rubber band effect ever! maybe its just me but it seems that an increasing number of laypeople seem to know the secret to this. anyone else has any comments?

crazy man hand cuff was created by Arthur Setterington, not Micheal Ammar.

Pinnacle is one of the best impromptu magic with rubberbands out there that I know of.
It's basically a ring thru rubberband effect...there are lots of versions out there (Daniel Garcia has one I believe), but I guess Pinnacle is one of the more popular ones

Crazy Man's Handcuff only teaches on the unlinking part of the rubberbands, which I think you meant a lot of laypeople knows about the secret. Linking back the rubberbands will surprises the audience, especially those who know the secret. :)

I have been practicing a lot with local rubber bands and find out that after a few stretches it becomes a lot bigger and it snaps easily. And besides local rubber band has only red and yellowish flesh color. One more problem with local rubber bands are their sizes which are not consistant.

I am now looking for other types of rubber bands from other countries which is more durable and colorful :D I have found some rubber bands which is a lot better and the color is not pale color but bright color. I am still planning to get some of it. :D

What type of rubber bands do you guys use?

Thanks Eric for the recommendations. I think I have heard or read of pinnacle before somewhere, will do some research on the effect. :D

IMHO, i still think that those yellowish rubber bands are best (those used for fastening nasi lemak packets, chicken rice etc), for a variety of reasons..
1. they are everywhere (at mamak stalls etc etc)
2. they tend to give a better illusion that the bands are still linked, due to the color.
3. they do get loose after a few uses, but who cares, they're everywhere.. i usually leave the bands with the spectators anyway. :) kinda amusing to look back and see them trying to repeat the feat with the bands.

Thanks for the recommendation guys. :)

I finally got some nice and colorfull rubberbands from US. I have tried local rubberbands, Phillipines rubberbands, China rubberbands, Japanese rubberbands and still prefer US rubberbands because they are superior in terms of quality due to more rubber content which makes it more strectable and doesn't snaps so easily.
