Hey, i perform quite a bit too. In uni campus, bday parties too :). u know there is a bday card trick? the one you sing the Happy Bday song and when u finish the ard u stop at will be the selected card. Woderful trick for bday occasions. But of course dont do it all the time on every bday ocassion lol. :)
Yeah i have not earned money thru magic but i recieved an angpow from an aunty in a restaurant during CNY this yr as i was doing magic in the restaurant. it was just a wonderful occasion of magic and entertainment that night. love it. Also ive been offered to get paid by a family fren asking me to perform for their party, but i said no la no need la. i mean... charging a fren? hmm... i dunno la.. wat u think? its not like im pro or sumthing ma rite? ehehe but i think if sumone offer to pay me next time i might consider it lol.... Hi MagicB,
Glad you performed in special occasion. :)
Hey! Can you briefly explain the effect of birthday trick??
I have one and I don't know same with you or not????!
My effect is like this:
A few blank cards show on both sides each of them and ask the spec to choose one, amazingly with a snap of fingers, the blank card transform into a HAPPY BIRTHDAY message card!
Cheers,
Andrew Loh

Gday Andrew,
The happy birthday card trick i mentioned was learnt in one of Daryl's card revelation vid. Its a simple trick where spec choses a card and then magician shuffles the decks and sing happy bday song to the birthday gal/boy. as the song is being sung, the magician deals the cards down one by one. And when the song ends... the card the song ends at will be their chosen card.
CHeers!

Hi MagicB,
A lovely trick! :P
My version is no song, heehee.... :P but more on like mental and bizzare effect.
Can be applied to many areas and see how your presentation used in that trick.
Best,
Andrew Loh
Brendan Low - February 26, 2005 01:45 PM (GMT)
hehe... we can both show our bday card tricks to each other when we meet tomorrow. k k... back to flourishing.. :).
Adlan - March 22, 2005 02:29 AM (GMT)
the last time i performed at a bday party was when i was 12. and these were jsut tricks i learned from a kids magic book. i must say though, i still use a lot of the principles i learned in those books. haha.

Hi baalan,
You got the joy and satisfaction in your performance, right? ^_^
I always like to see my specs being entertained and have joy in the magic. :P - Which sometimes make them wanting more and crazy!!! ;)

heya andrew,
yeah, i love performing, but now i only do card tricks and blaine-like stuff for a few of my friends. i'd like to try it out on the street someday. hehe.
anyway, the good thing is that a coupla friends of mine are so hooked onto magic now, and are honestly interested in learning it. haha.
Andrew Loh - April 4, 2005 02:49 PM (GMT)
Hi baalan,
So, you are serious to become a professional magician one day??? ^_^
Me???? - I think would like to become an author of magic book one day. Also do some performance as well. :P
Andrew
Brendan Low - April 5, 2005 03:28 PM (GMT)
Wow Andrew... author of a magic book eh? cool man.... yeah u have a creative mind.. u can do it bro! will support u all the way lol.. :)
yeah baalan, i mainly do street magic card magic but now slowly moving on to table magic. its cool man! its always good to get people interested in watching magic... :)

Hmmm, interesting topic.
I never made money out of this (in fact, I've been losing :D), but I've been happy as well looking at the sweet smiles and colorful laughs of the children...
har har!
Well I've done a couple of shows for friends and some street magic sessions.. it's fun to see how different people react to certain tricks. From my experience, some of the best people to do this to are younger teenagers and old people, and some of the worst are... couples! I swear if you show a routine to a couple, the girl will gasp in awe while the guy will bicker and the presentation will end with him saying "ah i know how to do it laa".

Hey, wat u mentioned abt performing to couples are v true... lol....
its like the guy will be just "jealous or irritated" when his gal is being entertained by some other guy. lol.... so yeah like u said they will just try to make ways to heck and spoil ya magic saying that they know how its done (even when they have no clue). And if that happens, I would usually say a few words, finish my trick and say "Have a nice day" :). It pointless doing magic for people who wont appreciate it.
Oh... pls note: Not all couples are like that. Some do appreciate the entertainment. B)
Adlan - April 12, 2005 02:26 PM (GMT)
i made a kid cry with a trick once...i stuck a 20cent coin into my eye (which made my eye red, thus enhancing the effect)...and spit it out of my mouth...my 6 year old cousin cried...haha. i had to do a happy trick after that. :P

Agree. I once had a session to a couple and it was the guy who actually went nuts while the girl was just indifferent.
Andrew Loh - April 16, 2005 03:58 PM (GMT)
Haha..... yeah! Can't be blamed as normally guys have some 'ego' in their inner self. :P
If I have the options, I would prefer to perform for ladies.
Last time in secondary school form 1, when I was performing a card magic, there was a male student who was so jealous which I know some magic effects to entertain the crowd, he just came in and spoiled up everything.
Since from that very day, I learn a lesson when you know someone is not easy to get along with or they have high 'ego', then please do not perform near around them as this will end up a disaster.
I wonder you guys faced this kind of situation like me before????? :(
Andrew
Brendan Low - April 19, 2005 06:56 AM (GMT)
i will look at the situation.... if i know how to handle the person, i will make fun of him and make him look like a fool in front of other spec (haha like i know how to.... but there are a few materials that gives good ideas on heckler management). but if he is just too aggressive and too tough to handle... then i just finish my trick and go elsewhere.
Andrew Loh - May 2, 2005 04:01 AM (GMT)
Yeah! MagicB, if you continue to perform, this guy will sure make you Hot-Up!
I normally do the same, just walk away and ignore this chronic chap! -_-

Exactly!
God damnit dude, two days ago I performed some magic tricks to this couple (which happened to be my friends). And at ACR, when I was "reloading" the chosen card with Marlo Tilt, the guy GRABBED THE DECK AND LAUGHED and screamed "I know how you do it huh huh!"
What the hell ya know.. lol, so yea, so I did some false shuffles and do a sandwich trick with his girlfriend's hands :ph43r: , lose the card in the deck, and end it with a card in mouth. All done very quickly. The guy ended up loving all the things I do and asked if he could learn those stuff.
And of course...
"can you keep a secret? yep, I can too!"
Brendan Low - May 2, 2005 10:57 AM (GMT)
haha... wow.. dok, that was great man!!! REPEKT! lol....
man... u really did "plant the want to learn" seed in his heart huh? haha... and man u gotta use the saying "can u keep a secret, Yep, i can too" at a right time... good one bro!
