Title: Metal Bending
Description: wat is the most cleanest effect?
Brendan Low - March 24, 2005 03:49 PM (GMT)
So far, there's 3 vids that i know and heard off abt cutlery or metal bending.
banachek'sK silverware
liquid metal
mind bender
anymore?
which is the most cleanest effect and most practical. i wanna learn and go bend some forks and spoon at the mamak stalls lol B)
Aloy - March 24, 2005 03:58 PM (GMT)
Richard Osterlind has a routine in his Mind Mysteries series which i like very much :)
ChongWei - March 24, 2005 07:14 PM (GMT)
morp.. i cant remember the name.. is it the one he put the spoon vertical, then FORCE it to bend towards spec ?
I think the mind bender one is kinda clean.. and not so sensitive in ang. wise... LM's routine just need too many misdirection.. thus, i never really watch it yet.. hehe... just have a glance thru the explanation parts.. but i enjoy morgan's performance..
Brendan Low - March 25, 2005 12:00 AM (GMT)
yes, osterlind's one looks great and yes its the one where he appear to be applying mind force to the spoon and it bends.... kind cool.
mind bender is easier to do and it quite convincing too despite the easier technique.
i wonder if there are anymore which u can just do without much motion and the metal just bends or let it bend on spec hands.
Andrew Loh - March 25, 2005 04:44 AM (GMT)
Yeah MagicB,
Last night I watched the T.H.E.M. show, they also can bend the plastic spoon. :P
Very good and cheeky effect!!!!
Andrew
ChongWei - March 25, 2005 04:54 AM (GMT)
but then they revealed they're putting fire below and melt it right ?
then this dude do a bending on a metal sppon right away... and everyone go crazy
Brendan Low - March 25, 2005 05:00 AM (GMT)
haha... yeah the plastic spoon one was funny, but it looks good though lol...
man... hey.. have u guys thought of being on of THEM? the malaysian T.H.E.M.
That would be cool man... lol
ChongWei - March 25, 2005 05:44 AM (GMT)
you mean like.. make fun of people with magic ? only if they can take it as laugh and not got pissed off
Brendan Low - March 25, 2005 06:02 AM (GMT)
hmmm yeah la.. true.... knowing our malaysian society some effect think its not suitable. it will just freak them out and make them piss off lol...
hehe.... its nice to watch it on tv but will most prob piss u off when u get stung by THEM.
ok... back to the metal bending
Joe Xavier - March 25, 2005 03:05 PM (GMT)

Brendan Low - March 28, 2005 12:10 AM (GMT)

i just started spoon bending recently..
a singapore friend told me tat singapore is way too common to bend spoon,
and malaysian come down to singapore to learn spoon bending.
i just recently POP some ideas to cunstruct my own spoon bending routine with a new idea(dunno if it is new, cuz i never learn fron vids) on doing the corkscrew bend...
i just perform recently in my nephew party..
climax, wow,,,, even the uncle who become volunteer also doubt if it is real psychic or magic trick..
soli ar, i forgot we have ppl here sensitive of others boasting,,heheheh
andrew, do u know all those ins and outs for selling downloads?
like penguin oz pearlman trick 5 dollar each download?
because sometimes i felt like wanted to have the chance for any of us including me to patent our own original ideas....by selling it as a download...
i`ve a modified ver of the erdnase change(darren saw it and can prove tat it was special), my way of doing corkscrew bend, and some small tricks which i came up some small idea..so, consider abt it,
OK, BACK TO THE SPOON
i dun have dvds to share, as i told u....
but can i meet some spoon bender in person>?
i mean those live in kl and into tis subject matter also..
i want jit cho jit cho...and kongsi kongsi...

i'm thinking of buyinh the psychokinetic DVD. has anyone seen this, and is it worth my money? hehehe.

Hi there all...
Banachek's PK Silverware (and any material he comes out with for that matter) is a must have! Although the techniques he uses are rather standard, and it doesn't introduce much in terms of sleight-of-hand, the true gold in PK Silverware is the misdirection he teaches. ^_^
Liquid Metal... Well, I haven't seen it (performed or otherwise), but anywayz I have an aversion to Penguin Magic, so I prolly can't give you an unbiased review on it.
Mindbender is really good, it teaches one unconventional sleight that is rather angle-proof and hard to bust. Unfortunately, it doesn't look as clean/open as some of Banachek's bends. Another thing to keep in mind is that this vid teaches only one sleight (plus two other non-mentalism tricks), some people would find it... inadequate... But this vid is good enough on its own I guess. Performing the routine here as is, however, would brand you as more of a street magician, rather than a mentalist. <_<
As for Osterlind's Spoon Bend... I prefer Banachek's version, but in it he teaches a whole bunch of other shit that's kinda cool if you're a mentalist. Again, it's more the thinking and psychological thoughts he provides on this DVD that is valuable, not the actual sleight itself. :)
Just my two bloody cents worth... :P
Regards,
Shan

i kinda like PK silverware but only got down one type of bend so far.
I havent seen the others yet, so i can't comment.
Peter - June 26, 2005 04:21 PM (GMT)
wah.. spoon bending arr? I will leave this for now but i think the effect is really cool. David did it the other day and he did it really good and also very fast sw**c*. Shan and also Balaan and also have good spoon bending techniques!!
Brendan Low - June 26, 2005 04:39 PM (GMT)
David has a wonderful way of bending the spoon. Just so super visual man.
Adlan - June 27, 2005 08:55 AM (GMT)
thanks to david for great insights into spoon bending. you are my sifu, man!.
Andrew Loh - June 30, 2005 02:34 PM (GMT)
Yeah, David's generosity would be greatly appreciated for sharing with us. ^_^

Very depressing. I shared my concern at SMC.. Metal bending is very angle sensitive. It's all about asking some audience to say what they see.. It's ok but didn't you observe richard osterlind and banacheK? they bent the metal in a 360 degree crowd.... lols

Magixfusion,
i don't understand what your refereing to...care to elaborate?
Samuel Chong - July 3, 2005 12:53 PM (GMT)
>> I shared my concern at SMC..
What's SMC??
>> Metal bending is very angle sensitive.
You mean angle sensitive while you're bending it or angle sensitive when you wanna make it looks bending? If it's angle sensitive while you're bending it then you need to put more attention in your redirection skill, choreography, as well as know when is the off beat. Or you can just use other sleights that are less angle sensitive. You can find it in P.Kuff's Metal Bending & R.Osterlind’s EZMMM Vol 4.
>> It's all about asking some audience to say what they see
By asking question, you aren't making the sleight less angle sensitive but you are redirecting the attention. Instead of putting all the attention on your hand and the metal, you are redirecting them to think.
Asking question helps to enhance the bending effect by confusing what they see, and what they know. Alert!!! You must know what to ask, how to ask and when to ask the correct question or else......... :ph43r: BTW, please don't keep on asking the same question: you're right handed or left handed.
For me I also play with my words a lot in performing this effect but I don't play it by asking questions. Instead of asking, I give them statement, telling them what seems to be happening and make the spectators to accept my suggestion in a unconsious way. It's a psychology thing call NLP or hypnotism language.
>> It's ok but didn't you observe richard osterlind and banacheK? they bent the metal in a 360 degree crowd....
That's what happen to me yesterday while I'm performing a strolling magic in the hotel.

I agree. It's kinda cool & visual.
Jabz - December 16, 2005 04:26 AM (GMT)
If you were to watch the liquid metal demo..... the demo keeps jumping from one person to another and it doesn't really show how the fork step by step gets bent.
Theres something fishy about that trick... thats why the video keeps jumping from one part to another.
I don't recommend it.
Adlan - December 16, 2005 04:33 AM (GMT)
actually, if u got the basic physical parts down, then work on the psychological subtleties. pretty soon you'll be coming up with your own bends and visual illusions.

liquid metal, its a cool dvd.. for starters of metal bending.. this is a great one for basics handling..
yeah as what baalan said, sooner you;ll coming up with ur own bends and visual illusions as u got a good basic in this mind over matter.. hehe

That's absolutely correct. It's just the editing.
Jabz,
I've around 5-7 metal bending DVD/VHS, Liquid Metal is one of the best. Grab it.

hmm... its not fair to make such comment based on the DEMO.
Adlan - December 16, 2005 06:22 AM (GMT)
okay, i personally feel that the liquid metal dvd is a bit too "magicky". but i'm of course being biased, since i prefer mentalism.
having said that, thought, it is a good dvd to start on. teaches more on the methods rather than the psychological part.
Jeff Gan - December 16, 2005 01:04 PM (GMT)
exact same sentiments as baalan about Liquid Metal.
Its nice, flashy, the bends are good and the fork which u can hand over to the spec in the end is pretty freakily bent. I wont say its for absolute beginners as the misdirection he uses is quite difficult.
But overall i feel its too magicky. In my opinion, its more suitable for street magic, or a noisy environment where psychology and patter takes a backseat to visual stuff. Morgan performs bending the way a magician would. But he teaches pretty well.
Bragging rights : I got an autographed copy B)
Yusri - December 16, 2005 02:44 PM (GMT)
there is another version of metal bending
this version is created by osterlind..
his idea looks nice too.. the way the spoon visually bent..
Jabz - December 24, 2005 03:35 AM (GMT)
i recently got liquid metal...
well its OK..... but i prefer the other performance, not the one where the spec. bends the fork. ..................the ultimate souviner one.
Jarrett Goh - February 2, 2006 04:46 PM (GMT)
Check Jay Sankeys 22 Blows to the head DVD...he teaches you lots of mentalism effect...and theres one where he takes out his stack of business cards...shows the spectator the bottom card in which he has drawn a pic of a spoon...he takes it off and bends it and then places it on his lap....he takes an ordinary spoon hides it in a cloth....and he says he magic word "naaaamiiiidooooooonuttzzzziisomethingzzzzlolzzz" and suddenly he opens up the cloth and sees the spoon bend but not only does the real spoon bend....the drawn spoon also bends as well....so freaky :o lol so check it out at www.penguinmagic.com hope this helps B)
Jarrett ^_^

Hey... Jarret...I just have the blow to the head by sankey..it kinda good...sankey also good in mentalism huh........
