any1 can teach me magic??

Adlan - August 23, 2006 08:39 AM (GMT)
Hi Benjamin,

While your enthusiasm is encouraging, it would be more appropriate of you to introduce yourself first and tell us more about yourself.

Go to the "Introductions" section and do this.

Good luck.

 ok ok!thx a lot!!

jackliw - August 24, 2006 06:09 AM (GMT)

Jack Liw

hi Benjamin,

While learning magic is not the toughest skill to learn but being very good at it takes lots of time and effort. I believe most of us has went though it and is still going through it.

By learning from videos and books as suggested by Jack Liw are very good advice as well as how most of us started learning the art of magic. In addition, we go through lots of trial and mistakes while performing to find out which branch of magic and techniques is right for us.

For example:Some has bigger palms while others have small palms. Some techniques such as palming can be excuted smoothly by magicians with larger palms while on the other hand magicians with smaller palm will struggle to do it. However, a young professional magician showed me that although with smaller palm, you can still do palming perfectly when you put enough time and effort in it.

From my own opinion, the best way to improve your magic at a very fast pace is to learn from a magician who has been in the street performing. Besides that, joining the RIGHT magic club or society will improve your skill dramatically due to fellowships, and lectures that are held by the clubs. Some of the lectures are attended by international professional magicians and advice that are given by them are like valuable gemstones.

The way to start magic the right way is to learn the principles of magic first. Such as appearance, disapperance, transposition, vanishes, transformation and many other more important principles. In that way, which ever magic that you do will be magical and not just a trick only. By combining the principles of magic with the magic you are doing, then the whole magic will be magical.

There is one very good book that I would encourage you to get it that is "Magic and Showmanship: A Handbook for Conjurors" by Henning Nelms. Learn the book well and you will progress far in your magic.

Hope that help.

Cheers,
Jeremy Soon

 ok,thx for the information!!

I will do my best!! ganbatey!!!

Forrest Lim - August 26, 2006 12:07 PM (GMT)
I agree with Jeremy that "Magic and Showmanship: A Handbook for Conjurors" is a good book for any newcomers to magic. Though only drawback is most of the tricks taught inside are outdated. I still love this book anyway and have read through of it several of times.

Bear in mind that some of the magnificent magicians are self-taught as well. Slydini serves as the best paradigm here.

P/S: Other books I’d like to recommended here are “The Magic Way” by Juan Tamariz, “Book of Wonders” by Tommy Wonder, “Strong Magic” by Darwin Ortiz, “The magic of Michael Ammar” By Michael Ammar and ETC. Instead of tricks, these books mostly focus on theory.

err...

actually I think he should start with the basic books ie. the Karl Fulves Self Working books series, Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic and maybe Royal Road to Card Magic or even Modern Coin Magic, and maybe..Tarbell?

The books you guys recommended were great books and everyone should read those too but maybe too overwhelming for a beginner. Unless I am mistaken of course.

Hope it helps.

Forrest Lim - August 26, 2006 02:56 PM (GMT)
Oh sorry about that. yeah Jeff I agree with what you said.

Adlan - August 26, 2006 04:44 PM (GMT)
I greatly recommend Magic For Dummies and The Complete Idiot's Guide To Magic.

Don't be decieved by their titles, there are truly gems for beginners in these books. I still refer to them today. B)

KenophLai - August 27, 2006 02:02 PM (GMT)
Tarbell is quite good. But the set of books are VERY EXPENSIVE.

They are all good books but they're definitely not for beginners because there are quite a number of sleights, routine, concept & theory which the aurthors have assumed you know.

This is true. I still remember many years ago, I paid my mentor RM300 just to learn 4 sleights and 6 routines but it's worth paying it.

Forrest Lim - August 28, 2006 03:22 PM (GMT)
haha...well...have anyone of you ask Benjamin about his magic level? Probably he's better than all of us. :)

Forrest Lim - October 7, 2006 02:28 AM (GMT)
Kenneth Wong is one of the best magicians in Malaysia. I met him for once if not mistakenly. And for James, he's one of the best manipulators I have ever met in my life. I really admire both of them. Hopefully one day I can be better than them. hehe. (To win a FISM Grand Pix)

Bryan - September 15, 2007 02:28 PM (GMT)
I would suggest Mark Wilson Cyclopedia Of Magic...Inside got diagrams that can show you step-by-step...It would be veery helpful...have fun with magic
