Title: Favourite Magic Effect&magician

KenophLai - September 8, 2006 05:03 AM (GMT)
Hey magic boys and girl, what is your favourite effect and who's your favourite magician?

My favourite effect that i enjoy watching all the time is W-matrix by shoot ogawa. A double matrix routine where you perform 2 single handed coin matrix together with a kicker reverse matrix ending.

in terms of performance-wise, my all time favourite is Derren Brown.if he's using stooges, i think the stooges are damn good at acting.

My favourite manipulator would be cardini. His sleights are PERFECT. his misdirection is superb and he can even perform card manipulation while wearing gloves(WTH)

When it comes to close-up magic, my favourite would be SHOOT OGAWA. Man this guys is ~CRAZY, he can set up si-stebbin within 2 mins from a shuffled deck, he can perform one handed link without looking, he can vanish a coin using only ONE HAND in SHORT SLEEVES, and most importantly he's humble and friendly.

hey guys what about yours? Who's favourite magician and what's your favourite effect?

entertainment wise (which is the most important), my fave magician to watch will be The Amazing Jonathan. He can entertain a crowd without even actually doing a single magic effect (I'm just not sure if he is he a magician or comedian?). Same goes for Carl Ballantine.

Fave effect, David Copperfield's rendition of Grandpa's Aces (patter, music, pacing..) , poetry in motion..

Lai, in your new avatar, the boy with spiky hair next to Shoot "looks familiar, do I know him?" :P

My favourite effect... I can't decide.

My favourite magician... Cyril Takayama. Oh, and Blaine. Oh, and Brad Christian!

Why them?

Cyril: His magic is... Unlike any other. He's creative, and his dexterity is... Unbelievable.

Blaine: I like his personality as a magician. I like the way he performs and speaks. He's humble, yet mysterious.

Brad: I love the way he explains magic tricks! He makes them so easy to understand! I also like the way he speaks.

Whee.

Favorite all-rounded magician: Cyril Takayama - uncomparable showmanship, his Paris show is a bomb. I like his "TV magic" too.

Favorite manipulator: 1.Channing Pollock - such an elegant magician, his sleights are just flawless. 2.Fred Kaps - the greatest sleight of hand artist ever.

Favorite close-up magician: 1.Greg Wilson and Ammar- you all already know the answer, don't you? 2.David Blaine(street)- He is the few one know how to get strong reaction from lay audiences.

Favorite mentalist: Uri Gellar - He's the only one who can really made people believed his supernatural power.

Just my 2 cents.

Believe or not, I've never seen Shoot Ogawa in action.

My favorite magicians (with effects) :

In this order :

1. David Copperfield - The Barclay House Illusion (it's my fave version of the spirit cabinet) and his version of the floating rose trick.

2. Banachek - His muscle reading effects, totally awesome.

3. My friend Jack Liw (Yap) - He used to show me this 4 Ace production involving the ten**i palm, I don't remember what it's called. I used to pester him to perform this trick everytime we met.

Favourite Flourishers: Dan and Dave Buck, Kev Ho, and Jordan Lapping

Favourite Card Magician: John Gusteferro (i like his style and handling, judging from his Brainstorm DVDs), John Bannon (for his creativity in Card Magic that fools laymen as well as magicians)

Jarrett Goh - September 13, 2006 10:57 AM (GMT)
Favorite magician in general: Michael Ammar, I respect him highly because he treats other magicians in respect, he always give credit to the creator of the effect he is teaching, and make sure he asks for permission before he actually put it on DVD. That is one of the principles of magic that many magicians don't follow or take it into consideration.

Favorite card flourishers: Dan and Dave Buck, need I say more?

Favorite card manipulation: Channing Pollock, this guy, simply amazing.
