Title: Malaysian/ SMS English
Description: Your Cooperation please..
Jeff Gan - September 26, 2006 07:18 AM (GMT)
Could we keep try to keep the usage of "malaysianised English /manglish " and SMS style spelling to a minimum please. We're Malaysian after all, and its normal for us to speak this way, in fact I use it myself (see my signature  ), but to write a whole post in "manglish" ? That's taking it a bit too far.
Try to use proper English and spelling to the best of your ability.
Who knows your idols err...let's say Brad :!!: or Oz :!!: or Cyril :!!: :!!: :!!: may be reading this forum and want to chat with us but decides not to because he cannot understand what we are trying to say. Then its your lost.
soli lah bladder...

Yes, I agree with Jeff Gan man. Dudes, please type properly.
Some of the grammars used here are pretty bad! I dont know if it is on purpose or we just cant write well.
For me it is ok to use short forms. I'm fine with that. But spelling it in full would be much better.
Also. Try to make each post beneficial or at least worth reading. Post with just "LOL" or "WTF/WTH" isnt contributing anything to the forum.
When making comments, write more, longer posts so that people can read and reply to ya post.
Let's be better in our postings.
Cheers,
Brendan

LOL.
Just kidding.
I'd like to say that remembering to structure your paragraphs properly also goes a long way in helping people understand your posts better.
I used to write without capital letters and punctuation marks, evident in my earlier posts on MMF. I saw that it was pretty irritating to read.

Well..... on the whole i agree with the above statements. But maybe, looking on the other side of the fence, that some of us don't speak english well. Eg. chinese, malay and/or tamil edu.
Of course, there are some who speak fluently in both languages, but in most cases, to me, it's a bit tricky for those chinese educated or malay educated or Tamil educated and yada yada yada...... to speak, let alone type out proper english paragraphs, trying to state their point. Most of them translate directly from the language they are most comfortable speaking with, to other languages.
so er....hmmmm.... i'm not really helping the situation here am i? Hehe.... so i guess what i'm saying is that short form problems can be handled, but the language dealt here sometimes can't be helped? maybe try to understand to the best we can, if not, bombard questions! Hehe.....
P.s. Don't mind me if i'm not making sense, had a loooonnngggg, baaadddd, daaaayyyyy............ B)

For me, as long as what's written is understandable and in a coherent manner, then it's ok. Grammar (especially syntax) is a confusing matter, and I hate to be a grammar nazi, so yeah. I guess as long as you don't write in prose or sonnet, then it should be fine.
bt tis kind of wrting iz bad 4 us, so don't type like that lol kthx.
Jeff Gan - September 26, 2006 04:44 PM (GMT)
Jennifer,
I think the rest of the guys know what i mean.
I'm not picking on anyone's grammar or language proficiency. If you gotta speak in malay to get your message across, speak in malay by all means, please do so.
Just use proper malay, and not sms malay either.
Wud I kunt stnd is de dlibr8 mispllng of wurdz that makes it so hard 2 rid.

Well... I think everyone knows what we mean by typing properly.
Im no mr perfect in typing either. But of course, we just have to type as proficient as we can.
If we simply type chin chai bo chai.... the forum also will be like rojak!

Daniel,
I've seen some of the MMF guys perform and comparing myself to you guys, I am a newbie.
besides, there is so so much more to learn..
Daniel Yeong - October 3, 2006 04:08 PM (GMT)
Indeed but compared to a Junior member like me who just started practicing like a month ago i am still crawling. hehe.

The title "admin" and "mod" only mean more responsibility in keeping the forum well :)

certainly doesn't imply competency in magic or skill.
Just means we have to try to read everyone's posts and make sure everything is A-okay.
And then you wonder why we get so grumpy. LOL.
Daniel Yeong - October 4, 2006 08:11 PM (GMT)
Forgive me i was just teasing around.
Jarrett Goh - November 19, 2006 03:00 AM (GMT)
It's been long since I wrote posts that has "lar, lor" or "..., i, u" or anything like that, and I'm happy I did stop a long time ago, so much easier to read, and look more proffesional, tee hee hee :P

I myself have tried using correct grammar whenever possible, (being British and living in the UK helps a lot I suppose) but there are times when you have a tendency to mis-spell something and not realize you did so. But in all honest, grammar in general on many forums isn't that bad. Let's be honest here, I don't think "grammar" is a problem, so to say- I reckon moreso with punctuation. I mean, anyone can read "u" or "wat", but if you don't use punctuation it THEN becomes confusing... For example;
"ey m8 i jus lern sumfin it cal duble lift n i no how 2 do it bu cn u shw me curect 1 plzz i ned 2 no hw 2 do proprly fanx m8 u rox a lot men"
It's terrible... All I ask is for anyone to use full-stops, paragraphs and even commers whenever possible- that way, it's far more understandable and you get your point across much better. :)
Jordan
Brendan Low - January 12, 2007 01:54 AM (GMT)
Great point there Jordan.
Im totally fine with 'u' and 'wat'.. but that's it.
I totally agree with punctuations playing an important part in a sentence so that it is easy to read and understand.
LOL.. it took me a while to understand ya "sentence".
NoorhidayatSalman - January 18, 2007 09:04 AM (GMT)
Oh, boleh hantar mesej dalam bahasa melayu ke? kan senang. bukan tak pandai nak guna bahasa inggeris. tp kadang-kadang rasa macam tak sampai apa yang ingin di sampai kan.
translation,
oh, can sent message in malay huh? make me easy. i'm know to type in english, but i'm afraid you cannot understand what i'm trying to say.
hahaha...
