Hi guys,
I thought I'd share with you lot abt my lil 30 mins experience two days ago. My mum had invited a friend and her family from Australia over to our place for coffee and some snack for supper. I wasnt home at that time, was out with friends.
My mum had long told them abt my craziness and obsession with playing cards long before they came to Malaysia.
They were all talking abt it on the dinning table when I saw them after returning home that night. So that kinda left me no choice but to go upstairs to grab my deck and show them what I do
I didnt realy know what to say or where to start.. basically started off by saying.. something like.... this is what i do... then I begin flourishing... simple ones... and then explaining to them wat flourishes blah blah blah while flourishing.
within few mins i was warmed up and ready to show them some card tricks.
That night, i performed the usuals:
Ambitious, aces revelations, variation of daley show, twisting the aces, sandwich effects and of course triumph. (these are all my older tricks)
THen, I proceeded to try some of the newer tricks I learnt.
- last man standing (they really like that trick as they saw the nice convincer of faced up card into faced down cards.
- and some other sandwich effect by P.Duffie. Cant remember the name.
I wanted to go on but i knew I have to stop coz it is too much for a night. I ended the last trick with 2 card monte. Suprisingly they never seen any of these card trick before.
Then i proceeded with some cool flourishes... showing them Bucks' molecule ace production. That really got them suprised.
At the end of the day... i asked them.. so wat tricks you enjoyed most. They said the last trick (2CM) was really amazing.. commenting" how do you swicth the cards when i pinched it so tightly". Their son, really enjoyed the flourishes and began asking me where i learnt them. I told him.. to get Bucks DVD, but also gave him some links and also this site. I taught him how to charlier cut and the revolution cut. He could do charliers but revo not yet.
He mentioned that he has a few mates in aus who like magic tricks too. But flourishes.. that's an eye opener for him. He's seen a bit of it on TV but never got to see it performed live before. Apparently unlike his parent, he enjoyed the flourishes more than the magic.
haha... I dunno if he will sign up on this site.. but i did give him the link. He said will get some of his mates that are interested here as well.
All in all... Ive learnt that... never forget the older card tricks you learnt. Doesnt mean its old, its old dated. There's still a lot of people that have yet to see magic in their life before. Also, it was actually the first time in my life to see people actually enjoy watching me flourish compared to wanting to see more tricks. I always thought laymen just want to see magic.. and dont really bother much with flourishes. Perhaps... it depends on the age group. The kid was young and he was more interested in flourishes. His parents on other hand enjoyed the magic.
oh well... yeah, just to share with you guys.... hehe..
