It depends on what your prespective of magician is
maybe you refer to it as a profession
e.g. magician = someone who does magic for a living

or someone who knows about magic
in which case everyone who knows a little bit about magic and performs magic is a magician. (beginner to expert)

have a think about it

One or two tricks known by a person would be classified as a 'con man', well at least that is what happen to me last time. :)

Perhaps it would depend on your perspective as well as the people out there.
A person who is able to perform would be classified as one.

A "con man" is more like a person who fools people for the sake of profit/his advantage, not entertainment. A person who does a trick or two should be classified under T, for trickster (I guess).

A magician is a person who loves to entertain other with magic and pursue, take the time, and research about the art. That's my definition, and that's the one I go by :)

Hello!!!

A magician to me is..... someone who is into the age-old art of magic, the sleight of hand, the entertainer and all that jazz. I would call anyone who can do simple card tricks, able to pull them off and understands the principles behind it a magician! Someone who doesn't obey the unwritten rule of magic like...... revealing a secret, or using someone else's routine as their own, i would call them fake. Pure fake. Or maybe a vandaliser.

To me there's a difference between (a) a con man, (B) a trickster and © a magician!
A con man is someone who uses various cunning methods to for his/her own personal gain (usually money). They do it regardless of anyone's safety, in hopes of getting what they want.
A trickster to me is someone who likes to play pranks, or tricks. Usually this is done for laughs, so i call them pranksters or comedians!
A magician is one who is an entertainer, who uses the art of magic to entertain an audience, to astound them with the unrasional, to deceive the eye into believeing something they cannot see, only because they aren't looking closely enough....

Magicians are purely entertainers, not some con man getting his dinner for the day or a trickster playing mean pranks for laughs. We just use the art of deception for entertainment!

This is what u get when u watch 'prestige' and get too engross in it

Hi guys , here is the defination of 'Magician'

"Magician is a actor that is playing a part of a magician"

:)

A magician is someone who calls himself one, regardless of his skill level.

Whether he's a pro or an amateur or a hobbyist, well...that's a different story altogether.

"A magician is an actor playing the part of a GREAT magician!"

we dun want to be playing the part of a lousy magician. :)

IMHO, you can call a person a magician if he succesfully ENTERTAINS using magic.

This quote is by Robert Houdin and the meaning should be

"A magician (a conjurer, us) is an actor playing the part of a magician (a wizard)"

Correct me if I'm wrong. :)
