I kne this have been discussed before, but i just wanna get an update from you guys, so what trick u guys performed for your opener? Normally for me i ll do here then there...

for me, it is the most 'simple-hit-hard' card trick...haha...jus couple of dl, and, boom, thats miracle....

Abt opener, depends really. I normally do ambitious and stand up triumph.

Here and there IMO is a very strong effect. I normally leave this and the 2CM towards the ending, that will be the trick that will stay in their minds.

hi all,

for me , the opener must be "fast ,short and stunning effect" (to the layman)
what does the meaning of ""fast ,short and stunning effect"" ..... when you are walking around and felt bord and wanted to perform magic to somebody(i mean stranger), how would you start the conversation?.
You gonna start to intro yourself first right? example" hallo, i am a magician and i wanna try something...blah blah blah .."" MOstly the people will say NO ,it just because of the culture in Malaysia (they will start thinking, like who r u ?, what u you trying to do? , is he a thief?, will he hurt me?) so sum up all this above and they will choose to say NO to protect themself..

because of that reason , i gonna start my intro short and when during that time i intro myself to them . i started to appear something just infornt their eyes( sponge ball the best :) ) and they will believe you as a magician and will asking for more magic.
for the card , i suggest that you doing card flourishes when intro yourself.. this look more convincing. or you just goin to the ambitions card trick staingth after your intro.. (remember to let no time for them to say NO)
after that everyone will start heated,, and ask for more :!!:

Hehe, mayb u r right, mayb u r wrong....for me, smile is a very important thing, i normally jus ask them, "hey, my name is yen loong, u wanna see some tricks?" jus that, n i think no one ever reject it, hehe, mayb cos of my appearance?mayb..haha...

jus have fun wit them, do some trick that they totally invole in it, let them enoy the magical ride....haha, they sure will remember you all the way....

I would produce four aces, not in a flourishy way, but more of a magical way, I would let the spectator choose any card, in this case it would be 8 of clubs, 5 of diamonds, Jack of Spades, and 2 of hearts. I would then place the 4 cards faced down sandwiched in between the spectators hand, I would give another spectator my deck of cards, so that way I cannot do anything, while everybody is looking and focusing their eyes on the spectators hand with the 4 cards sandwiched, I would wave across the hand, and when they turn the 4 cards over, it has become the 4 ACES. I would then proceed to a 4 ace routine with different kinds of magic, transposition, color changes, penetration, production, dissappearance and appearance, etc using only the 4 aces + some other selected cards later on in the routine.

For me an opener needs to be simple but strong.

Just throw a card at the crowd or if you really want to HIT HARD, throw the deck.

Walk up to them, and say:" I'm sorry this is a deck of naughty cards, i apologize on his behalf. By the way I'm your magician, I'm Kenoph Lai. ;) "

Then it depends on the which deck am i using, issit an borrowed deck/newdeck/ set up deck.

Using a regular deck of cards, I'd just perform a sandwitch effect/ cards to pocket effect as opener. If i'm using a new deck I'll perform some time travels routine.

do as i do and two card transportation. they are amazing.

LOL nice one Lai!!!! well me i prefer to do sucker punch effects for my opening. it looks like you messed up, but at the end, BAM!!!!! "how did you change the card??" perfect position....they'll be forced to take you seriously.....from then on, you can work the routine...build it up...and have a killer closer....usually ambitious, stigmata, indecent(now *chuckles*)....

haha.. for me im jus do some ambitious card routine bcs it is really impromptu haha.. and some brian tudor card to pocket.. ;) :lol:

Hrm, I usually go: "Hey, I just found out that my pen can do some really cool stuff.... (proceeds to make the pen disappear in front of their eyes before they can say anything) See..." or "Dude, this coin is driving me crazy... It just keeps on disappearing... (makes the coin disappear)" By then, their attention would have been 100% on me ;p Then i will just do whatever trick that suits the situation ;p

Another example:
Just got my kilometrico perfect pen, so this morning, i purposely kept on poking the pen at the bill I was holding in front of my friends, then my friends go: "Keat, what the hell are you doing!!!" and i just proceeds with the trick ;p

In a nutshell, i prefer to let things flow naturally, and not force it up them (ok, so in a subtle way i am ;p).

Oh and for card tricks, I will go: "Dude, something crazy is happening to my deck... this card here keeps on appearing up top... look... (does ambitious card routine)" something like that. hahaha and yeah, of coz, with a smile on my face ;p

Short and suprise always the best for opener.

Seeing that we are in Malaysia and that most people would usually go NO when you ask them do you want to see something cool(even though I did it with a smile T_T) cause they might think that your some kind of drug peddler... I think that the age group is also a big factor the older they are the harder it is to show them something but people around my age (eg. late teens) are the best spectators and also hecklers...

Anyway i just usually go up to a person smile and then ask them would you like to see something interesting while holding my deck usually when they see the deck it gives off the message that you wat to perform magic...

I then proceed to ask them to select a card then find a card that is not theirs then at that point people will start laughing, then i hit them with a very visual colour change...

Usually they will go how did you do that !!! Then I say that this card is magical then start performing my ACR routine... After my performace some people have actually asked to inspect me deck... Haha
