Title: Flashy Playing Cards For Magic

Jeff Gan - October 24, 2006 10:49 AM (GMT)
There are some cards out there in the market that look cool but not natural.
I'm talking about Ghosts Decks, Black Tigers, Vipers etc. These cards are very popular among cardicians here, but do they serve a purpose?

For fluorishing, I'm sure those cards look cool, but for magic ?
Does it add the impact or reduce the impact of the effect?
Don't your spectators look at those cards and in their head assume its all gimmicked?

Don't get me wrong, I love them as I have them in my collection myself but I don't use it for magic.

Hi,

Yea, u r right Jeff, es for Black deck, the first question they ask when i take the black deck out is, 'is this gimmick card?' sure the answer is no, but the look on thier face tell me what they think.

Normally i just use bikes, but nowadays i just like tally-ho...they last longer than bikes, in my opinion of cos, so how you guys think?

Nice day ^_^

Cards.... Cards.... yeah... for magic... i just use normal red, or blue cards.. unless im doing some serious colour changing effect or needing another colour backs.

I much prefer the normal bike cards that have white faces, just different colour backs... eg. Red (common), Blue (common), Green, Black.

As for those E cards... well.. i used to like them,.... but they are thick stock and i much prefer thinner cards. Black tiger, vipers etc.. they look nice in the begiining but they wear out fast (if u practice a lot) and when they wear out, the edges turns off colour or white.... and ending up feeling like
"Sandpaper" haha (that's what one of the Buck's said on the Magic Radio Broadcast, when asked what they thought abt Black tigers).

So yeah.. they serve merely for collection purposes. I flourish with them once in while... :P.

My fav cards are Bicycle Leagues Back. :)... I love Tallys too... but they are a lil bit more expensive. Oh well.... yeah... B). Im gonna try out some Arrcos soon... just ordered them from E-bay last week! Should be coming after raya! Cant wait...

Apparently you're supposed to use a black marker pen and black out the white edges on the Tiger deck....
will look kinda strange at first coz its all black
i've seen someone do it and it actually looks really cool

but yea...normal cards are the best
funky coloured decks normally tend to raise suspicion
but it also depends on your performance style

also its easy for a spectator to sign on a white background card
as opposed to a black tiger o_O

Tally Ho last longer than Bike? I should order the Split Spades too then.

Thats true, for me i usualy just use regular bikes or master deck, not into those fancy deck but hey if it works for you go ahead just my 2 cents, for me simple the better :) , cheers have a great day

Best ordinary playing cards for performance....

Arrcos, Tallys, Bicycles.

Get them and stock them up. Great cards above. I dont bother investing much on the non-ordinary decks...

As the question raised by mann, for normal handling with clean non-sweaty hands, does tally decks last longer than bike's?

Brendan Low - November 12, 2006 01:19 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Tally's are slightly better/last longer than normal bikes in terms of quality.

But they both rock.

BTW, Mann.... i dont hear good news abt Split Decks, even though they are meant to be like Tallys, some say the quality isnt as good.

ANYTHING with the back-colours of red or blue works. I would NEVER suggest performing (especially to a lay audience) with decks such as Black Tigers.

They don't look normal or natural, and give off a lot of suspicion.

Worst decks ever invented IMHO, they don't even look cool.

Jordan

i bought black bicycle and black tigers not for doing tricks but for collection purpose :) ...as in performing i use normal blue back or red back bikes :)

Yeah, I once created a poll at Penguin forum on which deck is good, Split Spades or Master's.

Only a few people voted for Split Spades and most people recommend that me buy Master's Edition because they last long, lack of suspicion and it can go with gimmicked cards built for 'em.
