Title: What Should I Do?

Yukiko - October 26, 2006 12:05 PM (GMT)
I used to hang out with this gang of people in my ex-school till i transfered school. In that gang of friends, there's this guy who does magic as well,we'll name him A?

"A" does magic, mainly cards and coins. When "A" does a trick,he doesn't just perform it,he reveals it as well, which i find very disturbing.I've tried telling him not to do for a gazillion times, but everytime he learns a new trick, the whole entire gang will sorta learn how the trick works as well.

It doesn't bother me that much if the tricks he reveals are like self working tricks or so,but the ones he reveals are things that include DL and all. :(

So what should I do?

Perhaps there is nothing much you can actually do but accept the fact that he is doing what he is doin either by choice or by force. Either way you have already spoken to him about it but he still does what he does.

Sooner or later he would realise perhaps that it is not advisable to do so. Then again it would be one's choice to what he or she wants to do. To how it would affect others is unavoiable for we live in a mutual community. Being strong to survive would be best instead of dwelling with frustration on how to stop him.

Correct me if i was wrong.

Thank you for your time.

I've said this before in an older thread, and I'm sure a lot of you won't agree...but what the heck.

Don't really worry about exposure, especially the type you're talking about. You have to look at the context of the exposure. It's not like he's doing a stage show and exposing his tricks to the whole audience. He's just telling some friends how he does tricks. Hell, I do it too.

It won't hurt magic as an artform. It may hurt your ego, or make you unable to perform magic for that particular group of friends. But so what? Performing for friends is always a b*tch anyway. I perform for friends for the sake of practice. It doesn't matter if I flash or expose the trick, since they're not a paying audience anyway. Not that I've ever had a paying audience hahah.

Anyway, I wouldn't really worry about it too much. So long as you don't follow in his footsteps, then it's perfectly fine. Just tell yourself that he's an asshole and an incompetent magician...no, wait. He's an incompetent human being, cos he's probably exposing himself (David Lai, you better not think up dirty thoughts!) to look cool in front of his friends.

I've always had the opinion that people are B*st*rd-Coated B*st*rds with Creamy B*st*rd Filling. So forget about him, just do your thing.

Or you could go all Ninjitsu on his @$$.

Good Luck Yukiko.

LOL. that is a serious problem

since you already tried to talk to him.... ok here is another way

take him to the movie "Prestige"
and ask him to listen what the "PROFESSOR" said when he appeared the coin just beside his daughter's ear

"remember this, once you reveal the secret, you become nothing to them"

hope this will help him..

LOL!!! thanks for all the advices!!=P!

haha.I guess I should work very hard after SPM till there's no way they have a chance to say:Hey,i know how u do that trick=P

ps:it's ninjutsu not ninjitsu=)

nope. My thought differ with Adlan on this matter...I take exposure very seriously. Teaching and exposing magic are very different things.
I'd suggest all who love the art boycott him...
But I agree with Adlan on the other bit, about the ninjutsu thing.

Sorry lai.he's not in MMF.A friend of mine from chong hwa.

KenophLai - October 26, 2006 04:46 PM (GMT)
:) LOL i bet he isnt good at magic. Only newbies reveal the secret after a bad performance.

Hopefully as time goes by he'll learn how to respect our art. If you've talked to him and he just refuse to change, there is nothing much you can do.

Mr. Masked Magician is not going to be popular among us :P . Boycott him is a great idea. The Ninjutsu idea is even better.

Daniel Yeong - October 27, 2006 04:50 AM (GMT)
I feel he choose this path then let him deal with the consequences. No point for us to waste our time to change his mind since he is already on the path. This thread holds many great advise for beginners.

p/s: consequences like ya katana up his *bom bom*
