mannthusiastic - November 29, 2006 12:22 AM (GMT)
Hey buddy that's a good list of tricks I often perform to people. Especially 2 card Monte and Waving the Aces Blaine's style. Both of em really freak people out.

Shon Chong - November 29, 2006 06:26 AM (GMT)
for me?

i like sandwich effect hahaha.

Brendan Low - November 29, 2006 07:52 AM (GMT)
hmmm.... there's just too many you can perform.... but the ones with most impact are:

2CM, Here and There, Triumph, Ace revelations, Ace estimation, Sandwich, Devastation, Reset, Daley Show, Twisting the aces.... etc

mannthusiastic - November 29, 2006 01:50 PM (GMT)
Not to forget Ace Assembly.

Lapping - November 30, 2006 07:25 AM (GMT)
Really depends on the situation in hand, ie; am I at a bar area with loud music, am I standing up, do I have a table etc. But if I'm standing up and someone wants to see a quick trick, I'll usually do Dan Buck's "The Queens", or Kostya Kimlat's "Stardust Transposition". If I'm sitting at a table I'd use John Bannon's "Dawn Patrol".

But then again, everyone does just what comes to their mind, so I'm probably wrong anyway.

Nothing can beat an ambitious card routine, everytime when I see a magician in Malaysia holding a deck of card in front of a lay person, they'll always do that, no exception.

For me,

Triumph and Memory test by David Williamson.

Jabz - December 1, 2006 06:16 AM (GMT)
Emerge Triumphant.

DesiWN - December 21, 2006 06:49 AM (GMT)
Those are cools effects, personally, i would start of with easy card routines like sick aces & then progress to more intermediate tricks like here then there, biddle trick, ambitious card routiine, waving aces, card in hand, worlds best card trick & i always like to end with invisible deck, sometimes i throw in mind reading, stigmata & trace unseen

Alexander Ang - December 21, 2006 07:21 AM (GMT)
well..i too always start with ambitious routine, waving ace, boundary aces and some coin tricks too.. but i started to feel but because everytime do the same thing.. most probably i do it impromptu.. ;)

Yen Loong - December 21, 2006 10:42 AM (GMT)
Hi,

Now, i start with

My favourite opener
Biddle Trick
ACR
finish it up wit Here Then There.

nice 10 min routine, sometimes more than that. ^_^

Nice day ^_^

Shon Chong - December 21, 2006 11:07 AM (GMT)
woo that is really nice. can do a 10 minutes show with only card tricks..
what can i say.. hahaha.

szehowe - December 21, 2006 11:10 AM (GMT)
usually i start with lazy man card trick, self working trick and magic happens in the spectators hands ^_^

Yen Loong - December 21, 2006 11:59 AM (GMT)
Hi,

Haha, what i really want is, presentation, patter, chit chat with them, play along with them, joke around with them, haha...and, i 100% sure that they will get misdirect...haha...

Nice day ^_^

Shon Chong - December 21, 2006 12:05 PM (GMT)
hahaha what a great misdirect

a question here.. is it better dun start the trick that need to use misdirection as the 1st card trick or in early .?
i found that when i started to perform ..my card locked everyone's eyes.

Yen Loong - December 22, 2006 05:21 AM (GMT)
Hi,

Haha, normally i just start slow, do a simple DL, My favourite opener i think is a great effect dont they?

Just be friend with them, haha, maybe you all dont know about that, haha, i think Brendan will know, haha, dont you Brendan??

"OH MY GOD" in the middle of the night....haha

Nice day ^_^

Brendan Low - December 22, 2006 07:09 AM (GMT)
LOL... yeah.. people usually follow ur body language.

If u are the type that always look down on ya cards and patter talking to the cards and not to ur audience... then there's no form of communication between u and ya audience (spectators). It will merely be u communicating with ya cards.

Like Yen Loong said... be casual... have a chat with ya specs... get them to be at ease with u. Eye contact and hand movements plus body language plays a lot in terms of misdirection. Remember card magic isnt just abt ya hands and ya cards....

One should synergise all these factors together. Effects becomes strongest when spec least suspects something and then boom!

Yen Loong, performing with u that nite to the african american dudes was really fun :). They were really cool!.... "oh my God.... runs away.... come back and Oh my God.. how u did that... blah blah" U get those reactions... u feel u r better than David Blaine haha... but.... again.... u dont get that kinda reactions from asians, well its harder...

Yen Loong - December 22, 2006 12:34 PM (GMT)
Hi,

Haha, Brendan, i think can, but, you should let them develop it slowly, now i do a couple of tricks, then didnt perform for a few days, they actually come back to find you, haha, ask you to the the trick again. Haha, that is the time they react like the african....haha...

Nice day ^_^

Muhd Azim bin Mohd Azmi - January 3, 2007 09:20 AM (GMT)
At the end of every year I will choose the best trick I can perform and make them as my main magic for that year.So the card trick I perfomed for 2006 are:

1.Here than there
2.Two Card Monte
3.Ace shake
4.Ambitious Card
5.Ash on Arm
6.Riffle Revelation
7.Get the Card before I get it
8.Three Card Monte
9.The Sagacious Joker
10.Self Control
11.The magic thrust
12.In His Pocket
13.Remote Control
14.New Card Monte
15.The Signed Card in Wallet

This year I'm going to learn just a few more card magic but I will still keep performing the card trick I list above.

Brendan Low - January 6, 2007 07:22 AM (GMT)
THat's a nice list of effect there Azim.

Some never heard/seen of before. I'd love to see them one day :P

Cheers,
Brendan

szehowe - January 8, 2007 01:22 PM (GMT)
nvr heard a lot of them..intresting!

jzanick - April 6, 2007 05:36 AM (GMT)
I have an effect that I always incorporate in my routine. Very visual because it revolves around color change and always produce laughter in the audience especially if you are using the layperson deck of cards.

I would like to share this effect but you have to be very good with color change. Reply me if you are interested and I will send you an email.

I am really impress with the fact that there is so many enthusiasitic young adults (lol.. btw i am one too) and most possess skills I dont (I really like those fluorishes but havent got time on my hand... I am more of an effect guy) Its a shame I only find out about this community when I am studying abroad.

Anyways let me know! Gonna zzzZ

agree wif shon,
firstly..dont do too much misdirection thing...just let the spec use to make eye contact wif you when you are talking...
that will make the spec more controllable by you while you misdirect them later...haha

if street or stand up ...i usually perform biddle trick, 2 card monte, ambitious..and maybe jumping jemini and daley show too..

if sit down i'll perform some set-up trick that noneed skill or sleight of hand...
like...predeckability if needed for an ending..haha :D

Christopher Ng - June 4, 2007 07:30 PM (GMT)
2CM, biddle trick and end with the Hitman trick( by penguin) is one of my favourite routine
it makes them go back and start thinking about their age..haha

i usually avoid lengthy tricks and never perform more than 4 tricks to same group of audience at once, they will lose interest very fast, unless they are magic fans too

knowing alot of tricks doenst mean that he/she is very good in magic
knowing few but is able to perform well makes a great magician

read it somewhere but forgotten the source..haha

Yups, I agree...

Quality not Quantity... B)

People remember you by not how many tricks you can do but how good you are when you perform these tricks or how wonderful the effect is etc.

brandonb - July 31, 2007 08:26 AM (GMT)
Nowaday I only do trick that can hand over to people and totally shuffle the deck (mental effect card trick). Because all friends/family members knew I play magic. No chance use sleight anymore. Their eye was like sticked only to my hand rather than see my whole trick. :)

I know what you mean... Its hard to misdirect when you have the guy's eyes glued to your deck...

My usually routine that I perform for people is :

1. Colour change (Erdnase/Shapeshifter)
2. ACR
3.Here and there
4.Biddle

I usually end with the biddle trick cause from experience that is what gets the most reactions from the people that i performed to...

EmmaTing - November 2, 2007 12:53 PM (GMT)
I usually open with a routine with something short and sweet. Sometimes with something unexpected like 2 Card Monte or something really simple like the French Drop.

I don't perform all the time. It depends on my mood. :D

VincentP - November 2, 2007 12:58 PM (GMT)
I think you've got the formula right. Short and sweet.

Some of us woud do well to remind themselves of that from time to time too :P (hint hint you know who you are :P)

What do you use the French drop for? A coin vanish?

Jon Goh - November 2, 2007 05:16 PM (GMT)
Is there any other uses for it I usually use it for vanishing small objects like sponge balls, coins, etc... ??

ILoveMagic - December 4, 2007 01:54 PM (GMT)
To a Layperson?

Just about anything.
;)

Adlan - December 4, 2007 02:23 PM (GMT)
Hmm...to the laity.

Right now, pretty much nothing. Not even when asked. ;)

Adam - December 5, 2007 12:49 PM (GMT)
hmmmm..... LayPerson = Heckler?.

I would do Ultimate Transpo, That would be a killer move. Royal With Cheese using the LP's card....

Then I'd do "2 In Hand 1 In Pocket" sponge trick....

Sukyi - December 6, 2007 05:04 PM (GMT)
here then there
2CM
ambitious
lazy man's card trick
biddle trick

i like to keep it simple... impress layman, not magicians? hehehe

Oh.. and about hecklers... there are good ways to handle them... 2 ways, convince them what's right is wrong... or... make them look stupid... try not to do both..

In Jeff Mcbride's lecture during the GIMF, he told us the ways of his teacher, Eugene Burger handles heckler. But I forgot the sentences already(i do copy it down, but my notebook is somewhere else) :(

ILoveMagic - December 8, 2007 04:07 PM (GMT)
Any ACR routine.

mann - December 15, 2007 03:38 AM (GMT)
I like hecklers. They open the window of opportunity to make themselves look stupid.
