I have a good rapport with the people in Magic Club, Magic-i and Magic Ring. I've never had any of that happen to me. Maybe you should take it a bit easy when approaching the staff. Magic shop owners/staff are very proprietary, and a lot of them don't really like you asking too many questions or going through their stuff at a whirlwind speed.

Maybe next time you wanna go to Magic Ring, you should contact one of us to accompany you. I'm sure they'll be a lot nicer with recognizable faces around. Til then, be patient and try to start a friendship with these guys. It'll be worth it, trust me.

Be more of a friendly face than a rushed-up, over-enthusiastic customer. It'll help.

i totally agree with adlan. i never have problems with the staff in magic ring. Sometimes i jus hang out in their shop for hours without buying anything they still will chat and show me some of their tricks. I remember there is once they even corrected the way i do my E count which is quite awkward that time :). for me magic i is more like for beginners where the staff is more sales motivated whereelse magic ring they expect you to know what to buy when you go to their shop. I seldom see magic ring sell those svengali and stripper etc ;)

Thanks guys, that really helped open my mind up. the next time i go over there, i shall take my time and ask them things which i really do want to buy. maybe its because i'm just an amateur and hence feel lost when i went there. it was a great eye opener though. thanks guys.

Honestly.... im kinda with Yigel...

Normally when I go Magic shops in msia... most of the time i go out without buying anything in the end. ;)

I merely go there to chit chat and to have a session with the guys there.

I remember on a few occasions... the level of customer service and enthusiasm is not there. -_-

A few times.. this happen...
I go there to jam with them.... show him some tricks and flourishes... he just watch and sometimes show back... <_<

When customer at counter... i just look at him (the shop magician)... and he like dont even bother to stand up and greet customers or start performing his act etc. To me... i see this as not a good sales strategy. What they do is wait until customer ask then they answer. And yeah.... i agree.. a lot of the times is a one word answer and sometimes the look on their face puts people off. :(

I dont mean to be rude or pin point magic sales people in msia... but sometimes i just feel that our level of service to customers can be improved. -_-

A lot of magician frens I know, when i ask have you been to this and that shop.. they say ya.. but the person there like Sh*t. All i can do i agree in my heart... coz i know and i've seen their service.

I dunno... maybe they are just bored already after working there everyday and nothin to do but perform.

Sometimes i imagine wat if im in their position... could i do any better? It is easy to say yes... surely i can. I know i have the passion to perform and to practice. Sometimes i wish i had their amt of time.. so much time to practice and perform and to learn. <_<

All in all.. i just think that our level of service... for those working at magic shops can be improved. Be more proactive and show enthusiasm pls. Pls look bright and alert and dont be so "action". Be humble and perform. Talk nicely and entertain the customers. If u just wait for customers to approach u.... then... ur sales will just be like it is... I know we can do better. :)

Nice to see more magic shops branching up all over msia, but until we get our level of service rite... we are not going to progress far and people arent going to respect us if we at the counter dont give a damn abt wat we sell... -_-

Again... this is not to pin point any magic shops... nor any person.

On another matter... I like Magic-I's Daniel Hee.... he is humble and he is soft-spoken and not arrogant. I like him. I encourage people to go out there and perform. Sometimes i go magic shop and perform to the lay people there as well... getting a crowd at magic shops surely is great. But when they ask.. where u learn... i tell them books and dvds... (coz i dont use gimmicks)... but i tell them that u should start with the gimmick ones... first... :P

This is why I love Magic-I
(I am officially not working with Magic-I anymore)
They might not have super range of products and pricing of products might not be the best.
Service is top notch.

All of the workers are trained to serve customers.
We are to perform to them whether they are buying or not.
Most of us enjoy performing because we love doing it.

Daniel is one of the best magician I ever met.
He is good in magic, an all rounder and he is very humble.
He is willing to teach and give you tips.

I am no more working there,
Yet I still fully support magic-i,
It is one of the best place to get free audiences, free advices and free waters.

Isaac

Honestly, when go to magic shop asking for how this thing work??
The question is what effect that the props can do.

Do you feel that magician will reveal the secret?

I go to magic ring for twice 2 years ago, so far service is for me.
May pay a visit to magic-i.

The puduraya magicshop I got nothing to said..

Yigel Mindfreak Deva - March 13, 2007 12:30 PM (GMT)
I'm not too dumb so as to ask for how the trick works. All i'm saying is, wouldn't it be great that they give me a demo on how certain things work and what the effect looks like. That way, we too may go "Oh that's cool, i really want to do that!".

However, i too believe they may have their own paradigm on how to run their shops. This is just my humble opinion on their service. I believe to each their own.

I am not from magic ring, 2 years didn't go there.

How many effect must the stuff from a magic shop perform each day if each customer ask them show some effect?

Just forget the above question.

What kind of service we aspect from the stuff from magic shop?? [I believe you with those service that MR provide you had mention]

If the stuff can perform most of the thing in a magic shop, we still consider he/she is a stuff?? or magician??

I'm consider a layman in magic stuff.

Perhaps you should bring a girl with you when you visit magic ring, perhaps then the service provided to you would be better.

I did post about this some time ago, I had to differ when I visited the shop again with my sister. I met George, a worker in Magic Ring. To my surprise he was friendly, spoke to me as though I knew him for years. I asked him about a few products, he showed me new products from penguin magic which he uses as well. Just sharing my experience.

JEUZE - March 13, 2007 06:07 PM (GMT)
That make a clearer pic, I did bring my gf when we date.

Daniel Yeong - March 14, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)
When I visit the shop, he asked me whether I came alone. I answered no, I am with my sister, whom was standing outside the shop looking into their glass cupboard display.

Perhaps 'sister' = available in his mind, 'gf' = fat chance?

Just kidding..

Sam Chan - March 15, 2007 04:59 AM (GMT)
Well, you do need to show your knowledge on magic to the staff at Magic Ring for them to treat you better. I'm a performer as well as George, so we instantly 'click' when I first met him at Magic Ring. I'm very happy with his service so far.

Don't be too sad on their customer service. In fact, they don't even like to talk to you if you know nothing or very little to magic. Keep on going to the shop, let them familiar with your face, for sure they will treat you well.

Jennifer - March 18, 2007 08:16 AM (GMT)
Haha, it's true. The first time i stepped into Magic Ring with my friend, the staff were all very nice. George was there, and he didn't hesitate to bring out props from the back of the store everytime i ask. And yea, i guess i'm one of those ppl who goes off without buying anything, but might come back a 2nd round to buy it. He didn't get annoyed with me, so i say he's one of the few who can build good rapport with the customers.

Issac is also another one from Magic-i!!! He tells me new things that are on the market and shows me demo's and stuff. So far i've got no complains about Magic ring and Magic-i.

And oh, the magic shop in Puduraya is the first shop i have ever visited. David really has a wide range of stuff in his shop; antiques that might not be in stores nowadays. Should check his store out, he's always friendly and if u need help with any moves, he's always willing to lend a hand.

lol
i when to alot of magic shop around the states even other countries if i get to...
the worst magic stall/shop is the magic ring..
how can u sell stuff if the magician looks like he is having a bad mood..
i when there.. he shows me nothing..
the shop is big and fully equipped BUT i wanted to get something and i ask him
"Is there anything new lately?" he told me "No" ...
he should know i am not a customer there and tried to shows me some tricks or something that i might want to get.. although i did agree that almost everything in the shop i already know. But my girlfriend is with me and she haven't even see me perform magic before.
well.. if i will have to vote this shop i will vote for it's quantity of product and quality of it. the price is ok compare to JB magic stall and the quality is better then andy magic haha but the attitude of the sales person have to changed or he will only do business with regular customer only.

So far, i got bad experience in magic club...
Magic ring, it depends
Some of them in magic ring are nice, but i am not always lucky to meet them
most of the time When i ask about stuffs, exactly like unknownmaster, he just reply 1 word ...yes or no..

Magic club is even worse........in my opinion, i went there, the guy just stood there looking at me, i ask about stuffs, he gav me the answer : Dont know.....
I asked him to show me some tricks, he said nothing to show me.... got really pissed off and left the shop immediately...

Just my 2 cents on some of your questions.

The effect shown can be the same one, but it most probably should reflect what the store is selling. Just demo a few of their products. This I believe aswers both your q on how many effects to perform, as well as the q on what you expect from the staff. You'd want them to show some of the stuff they are selling, so you can decide if you like it/it suits you.

A staff can be either a magician or non-magician. If he is just a cashier/checking stocks, he is also staff. If he performs too, then he is a magician.

By the way, there's a big difference between staff and stuff, just in case you guys didn't notice. One's alive and one's dead.
