Description: do we need licence?

KenophLai - April 16, 2005 07:11 AM (GMT)
just curious,do we need to be a professional magician to perform in public?

Andrew Loh - April 16, 2005 10:03 AM (GMT)
Hi,

Hmm....... I don't think so as we (everybody) whoever have the magic interest and good in handling of your magic as well as the audience and you are willing to entertain your audience, I think you can perform and entertain them.

On the other hand, if you want to become professional, I think this is the fundamental step of gaining experience by performing to the public.

Just my thoughts, ok! :P

If me, I would like to remain 'underground-magician', I think you can guess it. ;)

All the best,
Andrew

In SG we need a busking license... :) Anyone ever did busking for money?

Brendan Low - April 18, 2005 10:22 AM (GMT)
yeah of course magic is legal as long as its for entertainment purposes only and not to take advantage of people (Ie cheating).

Is there any reasons why magic should be illegal in Msia?

Andrew Loh - April 18, 2005 11:15 AM (GMT)
Hi folks,

I think reason is because Malaysia is a 'Muslim' country, so, the government as well as the muslim publics they tend to stay away from magic, because they are very adraid of magic.

When you perform magic to them, they will think that you use the spirits power or anything, so they tend to stay away.

I think in order to eliminate this idea, they have to know and exlore this art that there's no such spirits kind of things invlve.

Yeah, last time I perform a Malay guy and after that, he asked me, "Do you use spirits to help you to do this miracle"?.

I am really surprised he asked me this question.

I told him about the truth but yet, he still no believe it.

hehe.... wow.. there... u can see how magic really make people wonder so much and that sumtimes the average human brain just can understand its logic. so they blame it on the spirits etc.

I just tell them.. its not... its just an illusion. hehe

Hmm, i think that only applies to conservative Muslims...not only Muslims, but Christians as well...

I have a Muslim friend who does magic...

Anyway, bout needing a license, if you earn $$ from doing magic professionally, then you need license? you need to pay tax too i think

Hi Eric,

What you say maybe true.

But I have an uncle, he is a stage magician, I asked him once last time is he need to submit income tax to the government??? He said no and he perform quite a number of times in hotel, children's party, etc.

 - I am not too sure about this but what I know, yes, if you have occupation, you have to submit income tax to the government.
