Title: Project Magic

Darren - April 18, 2005 02:01 PM (GMT)
After I read the biography of David Copperfield, I am very impressed by his Project Magic, the part of his career that he is most proud of. It is in 1,000 hospitals in over 30 countries around the world. It helps stroke victims who are physically impaired to regain their manual dexterity through practicing sleight of hand, and it also helps those with learning disabilities regain their self-esteem. This is a program that has made the lives of many people a lot better. What a great accomplishment. This has really inspired me that, it is a great idea if I can also help the patients with magic, in a way of bringing them happiness, helping them to regain their dexterity and self confidence.

Isn't tat just great? feel free to post any comments or anything tat u know bout this project.

I think it's an awesome idea :) If you can make people happy, why not? It gives you meaning as well... Darren, do you do something similar as well?

Hi folks,

Yeah! Try to think guys, human life is very short in this world, why not we do something that are meaningful like contributing charity works, donations, entertainments, etc???

I tried to think this before but lack of supports, this will become impossible to achieve.

I like to do charity but I don't have the supports only! :(

I think magic is everything is possible and magic can be transform and applicable into many forms. I think you guys know what I mean!

Cheers,
Andrew

That's a reason why I got into magic actually :) We've been doing a great deal of charities, and I'm proud of that... to actually make others happy by the simple things you do!

Great to hear tat.."to make ppl happy" is the first and final purpose i learn magic..i'm never a magician..i'd rather call myself an 'entertainer'..this is wat one of my mentors told me n it jsut influenced me alot!
So, NIng could u share some of ur experiences with us?regarding the charity work..and folks, just for ur interest, u can go to copperfield's official website to get to know more bout project magic..in fact he's providing training to anyone interested!

SMC has done much charity gigs since last year :) Some make you feel satisfied but there are others where you don't, simply because the people there are hecklers or just simply cannot appreciate that magic is for entertainment. It's really in their attitudes.

However, it should not discourage you. Performing in public certainly hones your skills as a magician since you perform for a real audience, not just family or friends. They can be unforgiving but you learn audience management besides improving on your skills :)

I've been to David Copperfield's website before, will check it out again for updates ^_^ Thanks much...

Hi all,

I am fully supportive of doing charity.
Infact can i suggest that we organise an opportunity to perform in Children wads within Klang valley.

I would volenteer to organise it if any of you are willing to participate.
Let's contribute to the Nation and brings cheers to the hearts od the children.
My magic skill is very average only...so if anyone willing to be my sifu...i would very much appreaciate too.....

Cheers,
Vision

hey visions, if u are organising it, u would need some help, right? I am here if u need me. we can start planning and then see when we can start doing it. i also share the same passion as you guys. i did some charity work for the old folks and also orphanage houses a few years back and i was the clown there ( no magic then though... -_- )

I think we can start with hospitals, orphanage and old folks home in klang valley and then we follow it by outstations. we can even try to come up with some donations for the orphanage and old folks home as well. cash for them will always help...
