Title: Mercury

brandonb - April 11, 2007 01:18 PM (GMT)
Have you ever been perform Mercury in close distant ? Probably 1 meter in front of spectator.

Nadzri - April 14, 2007 05:06 AM (GMT)
yes i have....performed it on my cousin close up...sitting right in front of him...

but, its not really a good selection for close up in my opinion...theres so many other effects which get bigger reactions, easier, and achieves the same goal...i think Reset by Paul Harris would be a more elegant routine.

just my two cents.

Same though on me ! I performed it few time to layman....all know there have other card in my hand....unless using very thin card then probably ok. Else need to stand far from people to perform.

You can perform at close distant but you need to watch your angle. If you want to be on the safe side, dont perform it too close.I seldom perform this trick because I didn't like it at all.I prefer Revolver from penguin magic although the trick is a little bit different than this.

if i'm not mistaken there an effect called asher twist that is quite the same but looks better ... can find it on youtube

Jeremy Fu - August 1, 2007 08:39 AM (GMT)
twisted aces ??

Brendan Low - August 1, 2007 08:47 AM (GMT)
Asher Twist is asher twist...

Twisting the Aces is twisting the aces

and

Mercury is mercury.....

Alll different applications...

I like twisiting the aces by Dai Vernon.. it's the most applicable one in real life.

Asher Twist rocks if u can do it properly and dont flash.

Mercury is a great trick.

When you display the cards. try to move the other cards faster, and move the "dirty card" slower. The audeinces will be attracted to the cards that are faster moving, and it is less likely they are going to focus on the "dirty" card.

Even if they think you have "other cards" in your hand, just show them they that all the cards changed. Direct their attention to the deck. When they are checking the deck, do your clean up and display the 4 cards cleanly in your hand.

I think its a beautiful art. I think its need a little more practice to perfect the speed. I doubt many of you perform it more than 20 times. I see the kid was fast and it really needs alot of speed and most importantly your presentation.

Keep talking and move your hands at the same time. I try syncronizing it.

I agree with You. Mercury is a gr8 trick if U talk to ur spactators, It get's really Interesting is U talk while U perform. then the ur spactators will get it.

If U perform this trick, better not to close. I also done it to my cousin and he was like freak out. lolx

Fahmi - December 11, 2007 06:37 PM (GMT)
Mercury is lovely

The moves are relatively easy...you just need good angle.

Cheers

yup.. mercury is a good trick.. is a great challenge doing in front of layperson during close up magic.. :P

jeffgoh - December 13, 2007 11:29 AM (GMT)
To be a good magician, one must also be able to create new craft. anyone discover Mercury 2.

If someone can create a new magic and call it SAW 1,2 and 3, i think ellusionist will buy the rights.

mann - December 15, 2007 03:23 AM (GMT)
Well, I actually have performed this trick a lot of times and I never get caught or called on (Mod : exposure deleted) Keep in mind that the audience always know that you are going to make all 4 cards face down one by one, and they never expect the things that will "hit them hard", in this case, all cards turning into 4 Kings. I admit that the first time I did this I did not get the reaction I wanted to get, but after adding a lot few twists on the trick and my presentation, bam, I just love this trick.

EmmaTing - December 18, 2007 02:06 PM (GMT)
Mercury is a great effect. For those who say Mercury sucks, you obviously haven't been practicing enough. A simple DL can whack a layman in the face if done correctly. :P

szehowe - December 19, 2007 03:18 AM (GMT)
No offense but i feel that there is a lot more card tricks out there that achieve a better effect than Mercury and end much cleaner than Mercury.

For me i don't find it that intresting :)

jeffgoh - December 21, 2007 05:46 PM (GMT)
i drill mercury a few times and i still can't get a clean sleight everytime. tested old deck, new deck for bicycle and the fanning is not perfect. The hidden card moved . sometimes u get it, sometimes u dont. that's the problem.

i thought using a new plastic deck which is smoother but the same.

i think Ghost Deck is better because of the white colour. Bicycle deck reveals some shadow and when moved, u see the colour.

i hate it when perfection can't be achieved no matter how many hours u spent.

Learn the spread and how you grip the card properly. Experiment with
it to see what works and what doesn't.

I got it down within a day, but I concur with szehowe, this does not
really catch my interest. Try Invisible Palm routine... now that's a real
killer..... which I can't do yet :P

jeffgoh - December 22, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
thanks for the advise David. Actually, i don't have problem with the Spread. I knew how to do it. Its the motion of the card when you do the spread. Its the friction of the cards.

Even with a very light pressure to spread will cause the motion of the hidden card.

Speed is essence for covering up in this trick . I have not heard of Invisible palm routine, can be found in you tube?

David Loh - December 22, 2007 02:42 PM (GMT)
I do it slow. As slow as possible (maybe because my hands suck).. but I
think I prefer it that way. Sure its tough to hide, but much more rewarding
when you get it down.

Perhalps you may try to spread with light pressure, but grip with more
pressure.

For invisible palm, you can search around our forum here. I remember long
ago a member posted his performance vid. Wayne Houchin did it before,
it was amazing seeing him perform the invisible palm. I WAS FOOLED back
then.

mann - December 22, 2007 02:44 PM (GMT)
Do the Asciano Spread carefully and take your time when you come to the "hard" part of the trick. You should be able to hold them tightly without being suspicious, it is covered by your presentation essentially.

As for The Invisible Palm routine, I suggest that you search "the Invisible Palm" routine on YouTube and click the one that's performed by Wayne Houchin, he gives you the best example of the routine as far as YouTube has to offer.

jeffgoh - December 22, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
thanks alot, i will try harder and will share the many possibilities if i manage to find a better way to perform this trick.
