Description: more magic or more flourish practices?
Brendan Low - April 20, 2005 06:34 AM (GMT)
I know this has been asked in SMC, but just like to know how our members here stand.
Do u spend more time flourishing or more time trying to get a routine done well.
At the moment, for me truthfully 80% flourish and 20% magic.... but like to make it 60% : 40%. just u know la.. once u work... mind kinda tired... so flourish pratice is easier option. hehe
wat abt u guys.
Cheers,
MagicB

when i just started out with magic, i was 100% magic. tried flourishes a few times but gave up. (Reason could be my first flourish material was the notorious Generation X DVD) The DVD has superb stuff but very hard and with bad teaching. Got discouraged many times and hence gave up :P
Then a year later i tried Cap Cuts and managed to do a few of the stuff there due to the good behind the view teaching methods. My time then became 80% magic and 20% flourish
As of present day now, I am doing 70% flourish and 30% magic cos i seldom perform and hence just do and practise flourishes to entertain myself. Still a noob at it and hope to get better with practise!!

AS of now, 63.59% is magic, and 36.31% is flourish. The flourish can be attributed to Kevin's stuff :D (thanks Kevin, everyone else go to
his site now!).

Hey, thanks for the support, dude! Click some ads, I get a dollar for each click :D
I practice flourishes all the time, but when it comes to performances, it's 90% magic, 10% flourishes. The reason why you don't see VIDEOS of me doing magic is that I'd rather perform for a real person as opposed to a screen ;)
And yeah, 100% Virtuoso as always :D

recently me 85% magic 15% flourish, wanna get my angle correct in the first place, i always flashes! B)
ksat90 - April 22, 2005 08:17 AM (GMT)
Hm...
I think its 70 magic and 30 flourish. Can't really do many flourishes because I don't really know how to fit them into the trick... Maybe someone can tell me something about that?
Brendan Low - April 22, 2005 09:38 AM (GMT)
How could flourish fit into a trick? Well.. its does not really fit in actually. it really depends wat kinda effects u wanna do.
when u flourish when doing magic, people will go wow.. this guy is good with his hands/cards. blah blah .... he must practice a lot.
when u just do plain card magic, people will go... wow... how he did that. might not assume that u can handle cards well. hmmm.... not sure abt that.
i dont normaly flourish when do card magic. meaning i dont like er.... i dont do WTHHTS, or madonna or watever... i may do a few false cuts but it is not to show my skils rather just to convince the spec that my card are mixed up. simple false cuts... not too flashy.
i only flourish (flashy) when it not suppose to be magic. When im alone or when im concentrating on other things (while hands are free). eg. watching tv, ill practice flourish.

If you're a systemer on the dananddave system vault, they've just added an AMAZING flourish trick, called "mary kate and ashley". An Excellent, EXCELLENT collectors routine ;)

HAHAHAHAH MARY KATE AND ASHLEY!
On a more serious note, magicb, I have to disagree with some of the stuff you said. I dunno how I could stress this enough, but people at times (and this is often) freak out at a simple effect... as simple as the ACR. I performed that effect to a group of people last night, and everybody freaked out. With that environment, I then decided to do more weird stuff (such as some card transposition, mind reading, etc), and closed it with an ash effect. One of the guys kept on thinking on his way home if I actually had a pact with the devil for the power hahahah it was amazing and funny man. Though in the end I told them they were just effects and no satan was harmed in the making.
I guess it depends on your fluidity and presentation then, AND whom you're presenting your magic to. Different people give different reactiion, different background gives different reaction. You know what I'm saying.

You thought I was kidding, man?
It's a real trick by real people, if you're a systemer then you can see it in the vault. Crazy stuff.

Me, 5% flourish and 95% card and mental magic.
Recently hooked up with MagicB flourish and just learned some from him. :P
Me used to from last time till now fixed to magic and rarely touch flourish at all last time.
Sometimes I think that don't force yourself if you can't do that things good enough.
I normally spent my time in reading magic books, practising and reading some theories in magic.
My opinions here do not offend anyone, ok? ^_^
I think if you think you want to be a card magician, then you just concentrate just practising card magic, then you will become very smooth and second nature to you when comes to card magic. I would say you become an efficient card magician. ^_^
If everything you want to know and learn everything sooooooo detail and complete like stage, mental, coin, card, rubberband, bizzare magick, linking rings, sponge ball, cups and balls, then I think a person will not EFFICIENT enough. Because you spent lots of time in many and various magic areas of magic, due to that, lack of concentration of your performance as well as your presentations.
I think human is not comes in PERFECT, it's impossible to learn the whole magic stuffs in our life.
If you can perform few powerful effects EXTREMELY WELL conjunction with you great presentations, you are consider excellent already. ^_^
Cheers,
Andrew

yes, people can be "jack of all trades, but master of none", or can decide to specialise on something, eg. cards, coins, stage.
it depends... our lives are short and there is not much time to learn everything there is to learn abt magic. Its never ending journey.
Pros such as Ammar and Daryl can do some amazing magic not just with cards... they do ropes, coins, money magic etc. These people are pros. Most of us here look at magic as ONLY a hobby... so.. yeah so.. means less time... and have other commitments too... so choose the right magic that u enjoy most and are best at.
That's just my 2 cents....
CHeers!
