Title: Cards Slip Away

Victor Ng - May 22, 2007 11:02 AM (GMT)
erm, just want to know that do you guys have the same problem like me... when i do flourishes using new deck, it will be very hard for me to control the cards as the cards keep on slippering away.. do you guys have such a problem?

Sure... it is always much harder to control or handle a deck which is newly opened. Flourishing is tough too..

But it doesnt take long to break into the deck or train the deck or seasoned it... give it a few dribbles, springs, faros etc etc... soon.. its will be conditioned and it wil be nice to handle.

I dont recommend training with new decks until u got the basics well. Practice with older decks... and once u get better... new deck or not... it doesnt really matter.

Cheers,
Brendan

Ya..Brendan's right.. i got whole bunch of old decks.. better make use of it like practising fluorishing instead of just leave it there..besides practising with new deck somehow will damage the cards of the deck as it keep falling off if you are not familiar with it.. ;)

I use fanning powder to counter this, but don't use fanning powder on a new deck. Just fan around and do simple cuts or practice your card tricks for a while, and it'll eventually get 'sticky' and less slippery.

When fanning becomes a problem then you add fanning powder.

Amen... B)

But I usually just switch decks.

Hardly utilise my fanning powder these days.... but yeah... normally only powder the deck really necessary.

I disagree though. I normally practice with only new decks. I mean, you've seen me whoop out new decks every time i go jamming, and giving it away at the end of the session.

I don't like the feeling of old decks. Also, if you can handle the new deck feeling, it's easier to handle an old deck when you get your hands on one. Then again, i'm a hygiene/neat freak now. I feel a tad bit grossed out by old decks. They give me a really dirty feeling. :P

Needless to say, fanning powder doesn't go well for me. For one, it's a waste to put fanning powder on new decks. Two, the sticky-ness is a bit overwhelming for me. I always feel the need to wash my hands after i'm done with a powdered deck.

The only time I really use an old deck is to practice manipulation. Obvious reasons for that one.
