Just got the Derren Brown's Trick of the Mind book about 2 weeks ago, and im loving it so far, just wondering anyone in Malaysia ordered his book, and what you think of it. Pretty pricey since you can only get in on Amazon.uk, but well worth it, to me at least.

Love his writing style, i mean he utilizes alot of demanding words and all, i find myself googling quite a number of words in the book, its fun looking up words from the book founding out the meaning(no its not weird that i find it fun, or is it..). DB posted some positive and negative emails he received from fans and foes, he even wrote some recommendation on some books that he found entertaining and some books that he studied to develop his wondrous and fantastic 'skills' from(hypnosis, suggestion, NLP, Memory, Religion, Magic)

:D :D :D

Aww man, I'm so jealous. I really need to get my hands on that book.

I currently do a fair amount of NLP and hypnosis, and I've heard nothing but great reviews on the NLP/hypnosis section in that book.

BTW, would you mind telling me how much the book is? If need be, please PM me with your answer.

It's great to know there are Derren fans here.

Awesome avatar, dude.

Feel free to PM me and we can talk about this topic.

Everywher I go there are Derren fans, I can't seem to get away from them!! Argh!!

Lol just kidding. I'm currently in the UK and the book is about 10 pounds, which is about 70 ringgit, not including postage.

It really is a great book. Highly recommended, but be warned that if you are a very religious person you might be offended by some of his remarks on religions. Being a skeptic myself, I particularly enjoyed the last part of the book (Anti Science, Pseudo-Science and Bad Thinking), but his writings on hypnosis and memory skills are very good as well.

I do agree that Derren likes to bombard his readers with tons of vocabulary, and sometimes it's a torture having to flip through the dictionary all the time.

Haha, you just have to get used to his sense of humour. I have to admit he does use rather elegant words, but that is just his person and I wouldn't have it any other way.

There's nothing wrong with being a sceptic, and he is just airing his views. Freedom of speech ;) Somehow I have a weird feeling he won't actually care if he offends people with his view.

DB even teaches how to memorize a deck of cards, can be very useful for magicians, i can memorize 12 cards so far woohoo! See me memorize 12 decks soon lol.

I tried a memorizing technique using mnemonics. A good example is the episode in DB's Trick of The Mind TV series where he memorizes a whole deck, although I'm not sure if it really is the technique that he uses.

You know Derren, what he says is not always true. As he says, "I'm always honest about my dishonesty."

So are you guys into NLP/hypnosis?

Im into NLP, reading a book about it. Hypnosis is hard, u need to know what to say and you gotta be confident, i tried hypnotising my girl to forget her name, didnt work(i forgot the script and i wasnt confident enough). Feel weird practicing hypnosis on people too, when you fail its just so...weird. DB actually mention in his book that he practice his hypnosis EVERYDAY, so he just approach random people to hypnotize.
