Title: Mmf Customized Deck
Description: anyone interested have a mmf deck??
Christopher Ng - June 19, 2007 06:37 PM (GMT)
Hello guys
Anyone interested to have our very own and special mmf deck?
I just cant wait to have a mmf designed deck into flourishes .haha
Who can give me some guidance about the quality available in malaysia( or maybe overseas if cheap), costs of printing our own deck and the minimum quantity to be produced?
Kam - June 20, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
Lol we really should have one of these stickied. Christopher, we've had similar thought several times before, but none fell through. Unless there's a real demand for it (and willingness to pay ;) ), then may be something can be workd out.
Adlan - June 20, 2007 04:46 AM (GMT)
This reminds me of the "MMF T-shirt" thread.
Deja Vu?
Brendan Low - June 20, 2007 06:32 AM (GMT)
Find me a good local card manufacturer that can make for us good quality cards then we'll say we got something going.
We had a few designs sumbitted in the past already.... just no one to do the cards for us.
We dont need Air cushion cards...
I've seen some pretty good quality flat cards.... one of the beer brand. Cant remember. Ill go home and check it out...
But yeah... as for design like like it to be simple:
SOLID BLACK with WHITE BOARDERS.
Inside the SOLID BLACK BOX you have a cool font "MMF" in White/Grey on each side of the short side of the cards.
I think that would look wicked. B)
isaac - June 20, 2007 10:38 AM (GMT)
I have contact with USPCC.
However, you need to print at the very least 144decks.
And the price will be sky high.
Same with Adlan and Kam, too many times we hope and try to get people and do something. However, we cannot pull through.
If you all are serious, I can help.
Isaac
Christopher Ng - June 20, 2007 11:56 AM (GMT)
Im quite serious but i need support from members, but i at least need to know how much will the whole thing be?
If can get all member to buy at least 1 dozen each, it shouldnt be a problem right??
The brand of the beer is Carlsberg, and its green right?
I started magic with this deck! since its everywhere dring chinese new year.haha
And wats up with the t-shirt, the discussion stopped half way??
yinhowe - June 20, 2007 02:53 PM (GMT)
I'd buy a doz decks..
I'd buy a t-shirt too..
but a lot of factors to consider..
what quality, are there enough active members to support, logistics, how to get the stuff to members not in KL area, any cpoyright issues etc etc
As for local manufacturer, I remember seeing an old factory in Mak Mandin industrial area in mainland Penang, with some "千王之王“ (king of a thousand kings) cards printed on its signboard but i'm not sure if the place actually prints cards, and if the place still exists.
Kam - June 20, 2007 03:43 PM (GMT)
USPC will be a bit too much, don't you think? I mean if we have that much money, might as well send em over to Iraq for the children ;) or get the Trilogy box set or something.
On a more serious note, I suggest we tally up the number of people willing to pay for this and the money they're willing to part. Say, "Kamil, 20 bucks" like that, but none too ridiculously low (come on people, this is CUSTOM MADE!!! It's meant to be expensive :P).
Then may be someone who can get in touch with card makers can forward the proposal or something. May be Aladin quality? I dunno :)
Bear in mind many users here are unemployed.
Christopher Ng - June 20, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
Uspcc most common deck also a problem for most of us to afford
I am also unemployed, my parents support me to college and i support my magic
Haha
A malaysia made deck is good enough ,if the quality is like jaws, jaws is quite a good deck, very slippery
The thing is we need someone who has contact with the card manufacturing company and get a price quotation, so we can further implement our plan
Any suggestion? btw, is jaws manufactured in malaysia? because in jaws III the case written made in US, by the USPCC . haha -.-\\\

That's right bro....
Anyway... i just recorded myself doing some flourishes with the Carlsberg Deck. Video is done with simple editing.
Will post up a video soon perhaps tomorrow... in the flourish section.
I did this video just to show that they are NOT bad quality but super dupa slippery and has that v oily feel to it... which i dont quite like it.. but somehow I like it over quite a few local cards.
Of course USPC cards are much much more better than these cards...
BE sure to check out. :P
Cheers,
Brendan

I remember the time wasted by Shukri, Joe Xavier and Adlan designing those T shirts & logos, Sukyi collecting the list of names, getting quotations, comparisons, voting for which design to be adopted, only to have all those who requested we have a T-shirt not pay up and have the whole project canceled.
Be realistic, custom made cards are going to be expensive. You are gonna have to make a lot of decks, which everyone has to buy large quantities at higher than normal prices.
Christopher Ng - June 20, 2007 05:12 PM (GMT)
Jeff, being ambitious is not the same as not being realistic, haha, at least, we've tried.
Well i dont really know what happened to the t-shirt because i havent join this forum yet, but dun let this incident put everyone down k
Custom made deck, it should be easier to be done if we manage to contact the manufacturer, the cost of getting the plate to print the back design should be a one off fixed costs which can be reduced if the demand is high
If we can push the cost of each deck down to like rm2~4 per deck, why not??
Im trying to get information about cards manufacturers tru the net, and i hope to get some results soon.
I need to roughly get the idea how much the budget only will see into further details
VincentP - June 20, 2007 11:51 PM (GMT)
In the UK I buy bicycle seconds, which only cost me 1 pound per deck, roughly RM7.
If you guys can get the price down to RM10 per deck, with the quality of Bicycle cards, you can put me in for 5 decks.

David Lai - June 21, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
Scan the 51 cards, someone design the ace of spades and jokers , plus a nice card box board to put the cards in .
Print all the crads in hard glossy paper, each paper can accomodate 6 cards . print it out with your newly designed ace of spades and card box board front design .
Cut it with your favourite pair of blades ...and walaaa
your own MMF deck .

Just a suggestion, as an alternative, maybe you can try contacting china/taiwan manufacturers? to reduce the cost further down.
Here's a list of them.

Oops, there is a set up fee involved. I didn't see that part. Not sure how much that would be...says to call for details...and they are in the US.
This is another site, but with a 25 deck minimum.

I was just thinking maybe we can get a name list for all those who is interested to get the MMF deck and the quaitity... then it will be easier for whoever it is to deal with the manufacturer and to get the best deal out of it,
a little bargaining power is better than none. I will get a minimum of 2 deck.. who is next...?
Sukyi - June 22, 2007 03:47 AM (GMT)
As much as I'd LOVE to get MMF cards, I'd have to say these are unrealistic targets. I think it's simpler to get a shirt, and as Jeff mentioned, I went to the ends of the earth to plan that out the last time and the only people who ended up paying me for them were Alvin Luo and Jarrett Goh. Jarrett wasn't even in Malaysia and he managed to get the money accross.
In addition, every other random company has their own shirt. So, printing shirts would be a jolly easy task compared to printing cards. For one, it's hard to find printers. Once you finally find them, you won't know how satisfied you'd be. After all, we ARE magicians and as it is, I don't see anyone using malaysia's de facto playing cards(JAWS) to practice magic or flourishes. It's all about quality and being fussy about your cards now. I mean "a magician is only as good as his props". Hence reason to be fussy. Also, hence, a reason it'll be that much harder to print the cards.
I'd suggest bringing up the t-shirt idea again. Baby steps. If that works out then that'll be more reason to have faith in the newer members(if i'm not mistaken, majority of the members that previously ordered shirts are now rather inactive here).
Just my 2 cents. Hope I didn't step on anyone(or their dreams... or egos)

I got a deck from custom play cards. Was the top of the line one. Printing was VERY nice, but quality of the cards still bad. It's very hard to flourish with. I'd say along the same lines as the kids version of air plane cards
Kam - June 22, 2007 04:04 AM (GMT)
OK, if that's the quality, that's pretty bad. And it's true magicians are anals about quality of cards. So if this is just gonna be a novelty kinda thing, where you'd be happy just to have a deck of cards with MMF logo printed on it, then I suggest we start pooling the money in. But if you're expecting USPC quality, lol might as well get it from them.
Or may be blank decks and custom print it ourselves?
Either way, I don't think it's gonna come cheap.
Christopher Ng - June 22, 2007 05:36 AM (GMT)
Well, after going through all the websites, an average deck of customized deck will cost about 4~5 us$ after shipping and set-up cost( for the logo/design), which comes about less than rm 20 per deck, but i wonder how the quality like, because rm20 is alot to most of us
But I am still wanting to get our very own deck, so i'l inquire about companies around malaysia.
Or maybe like what David suggested, we can find the paper/material of the cards, then bring to printing company and ask them to print out for us?
As for the T-shirt, yes it will be much easier to implement, i've printed club t-shirts before and the cost can be as low as rm10~ rm 15, just give them a design, print the minimum amount then can already, but the payment collection is really a problem.
we dont have a mmf accont :P

we could get double sided blanks (RM 20) , a red sharpie & a black sharpie (RM 8) and draw our own deck. :P
If you make mistakes, you get Kidz Kardz!!!!
Kam, btw, I think my Cardtoon deck is still with you. Oh well, enjoy it !!
Brendan Low - June 22, 2007 06:41 AM (GMT)
Im just gonna do my own DIY shirt and deck and bring it to the next gathering.. and make u guys go wow....
LOL.... jk.... :P
Well.. I might consider doing my own shirt. It cost RM35 i think... u know those iron on ones..
szehowe - June 22, 2007 09:44 AM (GMT)
I will sure buy, whether cards or t-shirt. U have my support :)
xron - June 22, 2007 02:59 PM (GMT)
My suggestions:-
1. Collaborate with a local magic shop. Apart from getting quantity, they can also assist in promoting those decks. Of course, nothing comes free. I'm sure those shops are more than willing if someone/group offers some sort of lecture or show on behalf of them.
2. Get a sponsor. Preferbly someone with interest in magic. With a budget it will be easier to work out what sort of quality decks required.

Aw crap yea I forgot about that man!!!! Oh my god I'm sure it's in my MAGIC CHEST (aka cardbox lol) dude lol so sorry Jeff.
And yes, if you want the best quality card-wise, get a double blank deck and start printing it yourself. Get two just in case you mess up. In fact I'm gonna try it and see how it comes out.
@xron
The last thing I want is to see MMF on the shelf of a magicshop.
xron - June 22, 2007 03:14 PM (GMT)
Any issues with MMF on a magic shop? After all, we're all in magic for the love of it and spreading it by all means possible. Let the spirit of magic flow where ever we may be, cherish it, share it and love it!!!
Kam - June 22, 2007 03:20 PM (GMT)
Christopher Ng - June 22, 2007 04:31 PM (GMT)
why??
But it is better to keep the decks for mmf membersonly rather than let the public has a deck each
Christopher Ng - June 22, 2007 06:20 PM (GMT)
Btw, Jeff, Kam, is the rm20 blank deck bicycle cards??
If its bikes air-cushion / uv500 finish, do let me know where to get those blank decks
thanks alot
Jeff Gan - June 23, 2007 07:08 AM (GMT)
Chris,
Yup.
Excluding shipping of course.
