This is terriblly sad news. Chris Benoit was one of my favs too - along with Eddie Gurrero, Chris Jericho and Jeff Hardy - now two are gone.
And to die the way he did under such circumstances is a tragedy. What a rot that it takes something like this to get that stupid Vince McMahon to stop his stupid story line of his assasination (far the stupidest self-centred money making gimmick ever) and come out from hiding and show some empathy for one of his top wrestlers who made him so much money

What could drive a man over the edge like that?
If you watched the RAW tribute last night, he was pretty "normal" during his last match last week. Technically, he was the best ever, and his matches with Kurt Angle were my favourites. That image of him and Eddie Guerrero hoisting their championship belts together with all the confetti falling at Wrestlemania XX has always been inspirational to me..now eerily, both have passed on. I'll miss watching them both.

For me, many of the modern story lines in pro-wrestling simply SUCK but it doesn't take away the sheer skill of many of the performers. The smaller wrestlers are incredibly athletic and the "stunts" they do are breathtaking. I have a love -hate relationship with pro-wrestling.
Even the 500 pound giant BIG SHOW and the Big Red machine KANE are actually superb wrestlers ... I have seen them both take to the ring for a technical wrestling match and they were very skillful their movements were fluid and quick - almost like a dance, BUT their audience (mostly US wrestling fans) sadly only want then doing performances that relate to sheer brute strength and mayhem. I was actually very disheartening to hear the fans booing them until they were forced to change back to the old style of beat each other to a pulp. The wrestlers are actors but one could see the look of frustration and disappointment on the BiG SHOW's face (Paul Wight) with the crowd reaction.
WWE chairman Vince MCMahon loves the big men and the more muscle the better and so he pushes them to the forefront because that's where the money is. So when the better wrestlers and performers like the late Chris Benoit gets a push to the top and is allowed to win the World Championship, for many of us wrestling fans, it is a big thing - as they are not just superb tecnical wrestlers but passionate and professional bout their craft. You can see the amount of intensity such wrestlers puts into every match (even when they are in pain). Such really deserve the recognition.
The top magicians are very like the best pro-wrestlers ... but I will leave the comparisons and anlaogies for another time :-)
