Title: ( Sos )one Handed Shuffle !
Description: Ways to master this ??

Jeremy Fu - July 25, 2007 07:48 PM (GMT)
I always dislike the one hand shuffle as I think because it looks ugly and weird. After the gliding of cards from the nail to seperate a deck of card into two piles, the pause of how the cards are adjusted to the finnest position for sandwitching is what I find it very odd. Imagine somebody performs a close-up and opsss the cards jammed up or oppss the cards fall, what will happen ?

My concept for this altered after watching Darren Brown,A well known mentalist performing cards memorising. Though he specializes mind stuffs, his skill for 1 hand shuffle is no joking. The way he held his deck and shuffled it one handedly made me into a decision to master this floursish. :!!:

Thus, I tried to learn it by watching Jeff Mcbribe volume 3 of cards manipulation where he teaches how to do the shuffle. However, I find his tutorial too brief. He just merely teaches how a 1hand shuffle is done.

I subsequently attempted a few trys on the shuffle, managed to also succeed a few,but faced a consequence of my left index finger yelling away "O gosh ! It hurts ! ". I was too stiff while holiding the 2 piles of cards on my hand,I guessed.

The key reason why I cannot succeed is I find it had to insert the cards together. Or otherwise, we say " the feeling is not there ".

Hence, if possible, for those who have some knowledge of how to master this skill, why not share out ? You may also provide your experience in practicing it. This does benefits our members in MMF forums. Come on for those who find this hard to learn, lets try it! It's cool.

Avoid giving feedbacks like " Practice makes perfect ". I mean who doesn't know ? I said this is just because I'm afraid I would be practicing the wrong method and ended my being perfect with it. I experieced this when I tried some cards production techniques. :ph43r: . It's so hard to change now :ph43r:

Nothing about one handed shuffles, but a bit of info on Derren Brown.

He used to be a close-up magician, mainly cards, before he went into mentalism ;)

So he is actually quite good at cards.

Tips...

- Concave ya deck, so ya deck in bent and has a lil hump. This makes it easier to weave the cards together.

- Use ya middle finger to push the short end of cards to initiate the weave. Ya pinky goes to the corner or the long side and push in... so pressure from both ends gets the cards to weave.

- Semi new decks are good for weaving cards together.

Hope that helps :)

Cheers,
Brendan

When you say middle finger on the short end of card, does that mean the original pack is supported by the ring finger?
