Title: What Are The Magicians Of Malaysia Practicing?

Sukyi - September 3, 2007 02:59 PM (GMT)
Hey. What have you guys been up to in terms of magic? This place has been really quiet lately!!!

As for me, I'm going back to basics. Bringing my foundations back up with things like XB, born to perform and in the beginning there were coins. I think if you can MASTER the basics, you'd be a pretty good magician. By "MASTER", I don't mean enough to fool your primary school teacher or something, I mean doing it well enough for magicians to question "was it a color change... or a pass...? it could've been an ego change... but it might have just been an in-your-face change... that was so smooth!".

I somehow feel that a lot of magicians these days do a half-a**ed job with their sleights and settle for it. All the sloppy DL's and palming. Even the erdnase change is well exposed. Pisses me off at times(and MAN... MCG knows how I feel about that!)...

Apart from the basics, I also got some books that I am reading. Things about bottom dealing, second dealing, gambling magic and all.

Won quite a bit at poker the other night WITHOUT CHEATING. Itching to buy another book or dvd. Hehehe

So yeah... What have YOU been doing? We need some activity in here. Post something... or challenge/agree with what I say WITH REASONS as to why you like or dislike my ideas!

Classes start up tomorrow... :(

Hahahaha..

Last few weeks I've been training 1h Shuffle with both hands together.. and my own version of ego change or rather utilizing the "sleight" as a pass to bottom silently when arranging cards, squaring them up after perhaps finishing shuffling or spring the cards.

I've been practicing my coin routines lately and some balls rountines.. sponge balls.. I'm trying to perfect my other routines apart from just merely card tricks..

Gambling magic ? I know there's a DVD offering such sleight techniques but I cannot recall who the guy teach it. Anyway if I want to cheat in gambling,I would arrange the specific cards I wanted in order then just false shuffle/cards... lol..

which magicians do the sloppy stuffs ?? I can only give my P.O.I after you mention.. :!!:

Working on old stuff - to rethink how I routine - improving on what has worked and cutting out what does not, plus having emergecny rotuines that can be done if so ething goes wrong with a show (as in a need to go on for 10 more minutes etc)

Took me a few minutes to know the secret.
Took me a few months to learn the secret.
Took me 2 years to master the secret I learned.
I'm now moving to perfecting those gambling sleights.

I believe Pass and 1 Hand Shuffle are considered advance technique.
To me basic sleights that every magicians need to master are:
Elmsley Count (teaches me motion, motionless and naturalism)
Palming (teaches me timing, concealing, angle & misdirection)
Classic Force (teaches me psychology, strategy and most of all timing)
False Cut (flourisher and good with it)
Break (though this real basic but many can't execute a decent break)
Double Lift (teaches me how to be real & gentle to a lady... Hahahaha :D )
...... the list goes on

I'm working on putting together some routines for performing.

I'm not much of a technical buff, but I concentrate a lot on the psychology of a trick and all the performance aspects; from my patter down to my wardrobe.

Technically, I'm practicing stuff like rapid hypnotic inductions, post-suggestions, instant b*ll*t p**king. Mostly mentalist stuff.

Don't give up... If a magician gave up everytime something was hard, we'd all have quit some time ago! hehe... Just chill out. Practice makes perfect. Don't worry ;)
