Title: Help Me With Performance

ScarTiger - October 6, 2007 05:02 AM (GMT)
ok ..so here's the case...

i can performe my tricks quite good when i do it alone...
BUT...when i do it to people...i get all shakey and..u know what i mean right kinda like i get all "gabra" or maybe its just me being over exicited or maybe its coz im afraid that i would spoil the trick or somthin...i dunno la...

so any suggestions to get over this "glabah" phase??

btw...my friend borrowed my phone last night and looked at my videos in my phone...he saw some tricks that i recorded for me to see how i do it so then he said.."Holy crap! are for real?!? i wanna see u do it to me...come on.. bring the cards tomorrow (tonight!!)"

so wish me luck guys...lol

its ok to get nervous and shakey.... you just need to perform more and you will be allright... practice the trick until you are familiar with it and confident about performing it... then you should be ok...

I also have the same experience before.. When i am practising myself, i wont feel nervous, but when i perfoming infront of my friend, i automatically start shaking and my palm will sweat a lot.. But after few times of performing, i know how to handle it, and now my palm doesnt sweat like last time and i dint shake anymore... For me, i will perform as many times as i can in front of my sibling before i perform to my friends or strangers...hehe.. good luck..

The ONLY solution to this problem is to perform more often.

Perform for real audience, get the experience and improve.

If you're worry about not having nice audience to practice with, meet up with magicians, perform for them and ask for advices.

Join some MMF meeting. Although not all of us are "pro" enough to help you to improve, you can still get some performing experience.

As for me, I learn a lot from The Magic Annexe

We have meeting twice every month, a proffesional magician Anslem Roy is going to be there, free snacks and free lesson, sign up for an interview and join us. ^^

It's 100% free. If you're serious about magic and you're serious about improving your performance, check us out. :D

according to my experience, first time i performed in front of the people, i tends to shake my hands and do the effects faster than the normal speed. I usually take a deep breath couple of times which is really helps to get you relaxed. because, relaxation in performing is very important in order to make them enjoy your performance. relaxation is part of being "natural". so the best advice i could give you is, take your time and don't rush anything when you perform and let them enjoy your magic as you enjoy perform to them.

I also suggest you get the book called " strong magic by ortiz" or " maximum entertaiment." it will help you a lot in your performance or in your future journey in magic.

hope this helps

cheers,

knz ^_^

I still get stage-fright everytime I perform. However, the shakes disappear within the first few minutes. The adrenalin rush that I get from performing basically overrides the nerves.

It's pretty simple. Make sure you learn your tricks well, and practice them well. It will enhance your confidence, knowing that you are able to perform a trick almost flawlessly.

And another thing, it's also a good thing to script out every single move you make, even when you scratch your nose. Have "outs" for every kind of situation, and you must anticipate every little mistake or booboo that might come along.

This will better prepare you for performing.

Good luck, cheers.

Hey Taufiq!

I totally agree with Adlan. You will still get those shakes and sweaty palms before you perform, even to your parents! It's perfectly normal, just shows that you care about giving a good show!

Scripting is the only way to go for a beginner, unless you've been in millions of debate tournaments and can go impromptu just like that, i would say you've got your work cut out for ya! Sooner or later, depending on the individual, you would be able to kind of alter your script on the spot to suit the environment you're in. Cases like hecklers, that just makes you be on your toes all the time!

I always start out with self working stuff. Builds up my confidence, makes me feel relax and at ease, and then go on to more complex stuff. With self working tricks, you can concentrate more on your presentation and patter. People take notice of things like confidence, and you'll get the audience working with ya.

Don't worry. I'm still at a beginner stage. I still need lots of practice!
