Title: Poker Card Problems?

ScarTiger - October 6, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
well..recently i found that my cards are like set to a downwards bow position (looking from the front of the deck)..but when i put a lil pressure on top of the cards ..some cards will "snap" and go to an upwards bow position...

i find this to be really bad coz for one.. i cant even dribble right...it will always give a fiht as i try to put pressure to dribble then "snap" it dribbles but it looks ugly...

any one got a problem like this?? any solution? or is it just meant to be like that???

Put ya cards in a cool place for some time ( inside aircond room )..
If you're using cards apart from the US playing Cards, errmmm, this then I dunno..

Sometime becox my card case is "spoil" , I always store my cards in my pocket whenever I go out then when I retrive my cards for practice, I will have the similiar experience with you..

Cards bevelled due to many reasons, such as Springing Cards, Le Paul Spreads, Warm Temperature or Over-worked Out and etc. You need to give it a rest dude!

I've encountered before and what you do is to get a Card Press as that will flaten out the cards. Norm Nielsen's has a great Card Press but it's kinda pricey. If not, you could also try DIY with some materials from a hardware store if you don't want to purchase it as it'll take sometimes.

Another method is to get thick and heavy books to clamp your cards. I believe the cards are over-worked out. Give it a rest and you'll get the feeling back in a few days. Try to switch decks and always keep your cards in a box after using it. If the original box is ripped/damaged/lost, make one out of a thick card paper with some Origami technique~!

Hope this would help ya!

Cheers,

I would strongly advise against ghost/black tigers for the sake of flourishing, and even more so against magic. People think it's a gimmicked deck if you're using it for magic and for flourishing practice, you just damage the cards a whole lot. Although the deck is of slightly better quality than that of the regular bikes, it is still going to be damaged the same way. Also, if you're going to treat them like your "baby", you'd refrain from doing anything damaging. i.e. springs, le pauls, under pressure, etc. Why would you want to get a practice deck that you can't practice on?

Then again, if you're anything like me, I have about 250 USPCC decks in my living room all nicely set up as a collection. I don't use ANY of those to flourish or do magic with. I buy my bikes in bulk and maybe a couple tally ho's are there for my practice.

Back on track, it's perfectly normal for that little snap. I found the most obvious way I get that is when I leave my deck in my car and it melts the air cushion. I've never really had a problem with it being from sweaty hands or anything, and I do have REALLY sweaty hands. (We're talking foosball style wet rods!) However, keeping your cards in a cool place won't fix the "snap" once the cards are already warped. You do need to apply pressure and flatten out your cards.

I'd say a Joe Porper would probably be the best(and possibly cheapest) way to go. Not to mention how sleek they look. It's still a little pricy, if you ask me. I personally do not use any of those techniques. I almost bought a joe porper on several occasions, but I never came around to it, reason being; with the cost of one, I can buy about 30 decks here. Maybe significance for you would be less because you buy a deck at a time and there's insane shipping to Malaysia and everything, but I'd still say one joe porper is about 10 decks to you. So, you might be better off just switching deck, if cost is a factor.

About heavy books, I've tried one semester's text books(I can't lift all at once because they're too heavy) and after a week, there wasn't much difference in the cards. I'm not saying it's not possible, but dude, you need some pretty crazy heavy books if you're going to do that.

Well, my 2 cents on the matter, and as many of them know I like to say this;
"It's just a deck of a cards. If you want to be fussy, just change your deck."

Brendan Low - October 8, 2007 04:18 PM (GMT)
Very well said Sukyi...

I strongly agree... with wat u said abt tigers and vipers..... for collection only.

They feel crappy and so thick yucky.

I'd choose regular bikes anytime for magic/flourish over those black decks which becomes ugly after a few days of breaking into it.

;)

Sukyi - October 11, 2007 05:21 AM (GMT)
danggit! after re-reading that post, i want to get a JP!

Taufiq - October 11, 2007 07:50 AM (GMT)
i looked at the joe porper and i is a lil costly... so i guess i'll just stick to changing decks... ^_^ ....thnx fer tellin me bout the ghost and BTD... now that i think bout it...u got a really strong point...hahaha

thnx again sukyi....

oo..and bout crushing the deck with heavy books...i just use this method...
line decks... put somthin flat and hard on top...then i just put a couple of heavy stuff in a 'bakul' then put it on top....seems to work well with one deck...but only a lil for the other...

Roy Foo - October 11, 2007 10:47 AM (GMT)
About the Card Pressing/Claming method, you really need some heavy books in order to completely flatens out the card. I often use those thick cover, large & heavy encyclopedia books. For your references, the below links are the Card Press that I was refering. People who are serious in card manipulations [Split Fans, Back Palming Production and etc] should have it at home. It's pricey too. However, making one yourself shouldn't be a problem if you are really interested with tools you can find at home.
1. Presto Card Press
2. Collector's Card Press - Chrome
3. Collector's Card Press - Brass

i recently find that my deck is not as smooth as before...will this happened to every USPC deck or is it juz my problem in handling the card? Any idea?

Victor Ng - October 17, 2007 01:48 AM (GMT)
it's normal actually...

Sukyi - October 17, 2007 04:05 AM (GMT)
it happens because of wear and tear, plus moisture in the air and in the hands. perfectly normal. no deck of cards will last long when used regularly...

Victor Ng - October 17, 2007 05:08 AM (GMT)
but i wonder, do those subtances that absorb water vapour help?.. haha.. i put 1 packet of it in my playing card case, but it doesn't look like working.. or maybe not enough.. <_<

Taufiq - October 17, 2007 05:18 AM (GMT)
mine also..yea..i guess its just normal...everything wears out with time..

Sukyi - October 17, 2007 05:54 PM (GMT)
they should work... maybe not enough for you to notice... i know a few people who keep those in their card collections... personally, i don't... most of mine are still sealed...

Jon Goh - October 31, 2007 07:39 AM (GMT)
The water vapor absorber actually does work i keep my cards in the drawer and put it inside the drawer it really helps to recover the deck.... Anyway i still recommend that you buy the Porper CC i'm using it myself and it made my deck last about 6 months with quite frequent usage.. Since you use your deck for the whole day you could try rotating your decks so that u can still play with it and allow the other to recover.. ^_^
