Hi Isaac,

Yes! You actually right! ^_^

The effect you mentioned are actually can be classified as mentalism effect.

But, mentalism effects there are so many, some utilise cards, notepad, book tests, money bills, billets, dices, envelopes, and etc.

You have to determine which type suits you. B)

To be honest, I do perform mentalism effect but mojority of them are utilised playing cards. For example, I use Alex Elmsley "Brainweave" to find spectator's thought of cards. You can check it out also Oz Pearlman's Stealing Pips, one of the force in his DVD is "Thought force", I find it is very effective, 9 out of 10 I can guess and predict their thought of cards accurately. ^_^

Try it and I think it's good. ;)

All the best,
Andrew

Oh yes, also check out R Paul Wilson's mental routine I think in David Regal's book Close-up and personal, this is a mental effect where cause a thought of card transpose to another group of different colours groups. Thumbs up! :P

Hi Isaac,

Yes! As long as has anything that require the spectator to think of something or setting a predictions, that would be regarded as 'mentalism' effects.

That strange????!?!?!? - I tried the 'thought force' to my friends, magicB, and I managed to force the card everytime successfully. I would say 90%.

You can PM me if you need my help about this thought force, ok? :P

All the best,
Andrew

Anyone knows any good mentalism tricks with books??

the only one I know is from Patrick Kuffs 'Mind Stunts'....where you riffle the edge of the book and the spec says stop (no force)...and spec remembers the first word of the page he stopped at...Not a mind blowing trick, but solid, fun effect if u present it well...

Any others??

Oh oh....speaking of mentalism, the best i've seen with cards so far is "Overkill" which is in one of Ammar's vids

Check out Corinda's 12 Steps to Mentalism. Its the "bible" for mentalism

Also check out PRISM by Max Maven, it's a good book! ^_^

You'll find many mental effects in The Wizards' Journal... a great deal of Wizard magic is close to mentalism in style and presentation. Check my site to see the contents.

i read elsewhere that Prism is a good book but not for beginners. It said some techniques required are mentioned but not described, so beginners will find themselves stuck.

Can anyone confirm this?

Can't confirm bout that....but I would assume it is like that...

I have a Phil Goldstein book on cards...He does teach the technique needed, but he doesn't go into much details...
I believe that should be the case for books like PRISM where it's mainly there to teach tricks, not sleights....

just a post reply to eryanic... u were askin about mentalism using books... well.. my favourite is the one called "word in thousand".. its preety impressive when done in a smooth flow.. ask a spectator to choose any word in a book containing about 1000 pages +.. and then write it down..using mentalism .. u read the word out of the spectators mind
the other one is .. u riffle the pages from a book till the spectator says stop.. then make them read the page in which they stopped u..the book is then closed.. another spectator is holding an envelope which was shown previously empty and sealed in front of them.. when the envelope is opened .. a torn piece of page appears in it... now the book is opened to the page that the spectator asked to stop and the page is torn.. the piece form the envelope exactly matches the page in the book.. preety impressive trick .. and gets an equally awed reaction from the audience....

Wo...what are the names of the tricks u mentioned and where can i learn them?

Any demo clip by any chance?

ICEMAN - August 4, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
the name of the first feat where the spectator chooses a word from the book is called "word in thousand" .. was performed by osterlind... .. and the one where the torn page appears in an envelope is called "teleportation" and i saw ted lesly performing it....unfortunately i dont have a demo on those.. u could acquire the osterlind volume1 mind miracle dvd and lesly's cabret magic..if u want.. has a lot of cool mentalism feats.. and if not.. just pm me.. ill give u some insight about those feats...;)
