magic ring got pirated ? : O omg how much each lol

Jon Goh - November 10, 2007 10:06 AM (GMT)
Erm just to let you know its not cheap I think the dvd's range between RM50 - RM100 and above... When you see it on the shelf it looks original but when you see the disk you will know it's pirated... Also Magic Ring is overpriced..

Your better of just getting it from Isaac... ^_^

Jesse Liew - November 10, 2007 10:22 AM (GMT)
but Isaac only sells original right ? i can't afford them, he told me they cost rm230 each :<

isaac - November 10, 2007 10:40 AM (GMT)
IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD ORIGINAL THEN DO NOT BUY IT.

I have qouted you the pricing as you never confirm your purchase.
Further discount is available when you confirm your order.

Btw, MG do not carry any pirated stuff.

Isaac

Victor Ng - November 10, 2007 10:49 AM (GMT)
Jesse, just safe your money until you got enough then buy. :) Cut off your meal :D Walk instead using bus :D

Jon Goh - November 10, 2007 12:22 PM (GMT)
Hahaha... Buying it original is better than buying it pirated... Support your fellow magicians all over the world and stop piracy...

Amane - November 10, 2007 01:56 PM (GMT)
Rm230 each?
I think you got that mixed up....probably rm230 for both....

David Loh - November 10, 2007 02:00 PM (GMT)
I'd say.. if you want to start card magic, nothing beats getting Royal Road to
Card Magic ( book format ), its cheap... you get to learn some good ol' jolly
english too :)

I still have mine and i re-read it every once in a while.

Jon Goh - November 10, 2007 02:13 PM (GMT)
What the !?!?!?! I don't think each dvd will cost RM230...

I think you misunderstood or ellusionist really jacked up their prices since I last went there....

isaac - November 10, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
Retail Price for

How to Do Street Magic is 59usd = RM210 + Shipping.

Ninja 1 Retail 53usd = RM190 + Shipping

Ninja 2 Retail 53usd = RM190 + Shipping

I guess my assistant quoted you the price as they will quote you the highest and offer you discount in the end.

I might be wrong. I guess you are the one I actually offered you a few better alternative yet you still believe E has the best products and suit you the most.

Isaac

Roy Foo - November 10, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
Ellusionist products are mostly hyped-up.
Their expert's marketing strategy are indeed superb and always target on beginner/amateurs. You don't really get what you've paid~!

Although the video quality is indeed excellent and materials inside are taught crystal clear, I believe somehow there are other sources which is almost equivalent or even better than their standards with even lower cost.

If you think Ellusionists are always the best, think twice~!
They maybe good in their particular field, but no where near the experts.
Louis Falanga's has by far produced the best all-time learning DVDs with the expert's collaboration. L & L Publishing

Hope this would clear some of your thought~~~

Sukyi - November 10, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
I feel ellusionist dvds are over rated. Also, I can't stand the Brad Christian Jr's that I see everywhere.

About the piracy issue, I don't care if it's expensive or whatever. Intellectual property! Magic is an expensive hobby. If you can't afford it, take it slow, or quit. I'm sorry but I feel very strongly about this. It's not about "ellusionist making money"... It's about protecting the art!

We DO NOT condone the distribution and/or purchase of pirated items. Be careful of what you discuss here.

What you're quoting is actually the DvD AND Download price
For just the dvds they're USD$43.95 each

and yes, ellusionist dvds are overrated......
don't get mowed over by the hype

Jesse Liew - November 11, 2007 02:08 AM (GMT)
Then how about some of you guys recommend me some good and quality magic tutorial dvds for a amateur like me which are also cheap ? ^_^

It all comes down to what you really interested in learning.
Eg. Cards, Coins, Ropes, & etc.

So what are you really keen to learn and perform?

Card magic mostly, but some coin magic like bullet ctb is good too.

Jon Goh - November 11, 2007 04:56 AM (GMT)
Oz Pearlman's - Born To Perform is nice !!!

yinhowe - November 11, 2007 05:41 AM (GMT)
SPEND WISELY. This goes for all types of spending but is especially true in magic.

Alot of effects/props in the magic marketplace are over hyped (I'm not referring to E's DVDs alone). I too have also fallen into the super hyped purchase trap before.

In my opinion, no matter if you are a beginner or advanced, BOOKS are the way to go. Beacuse:
1. they are cheaper
2. alot more value (books contain alot alot more effects)

Alot of what are taught in beginner DVDs are available in beginneer magic books anyway!! i recommend Mark Wilson's: Complete Course in Magic.

IF you must buy DVDs, don't go for those single effect DVDs. RM100+ for 1 effect if not value for your money if you are a begineer. Go for DVDs like Michael Ammars Easy to Master series.

just my RM0.02. :P

isaac - November 11, 2007 06:06 AM (GMT)
Sorry, my bad of overlooking the download price :( .

Anyway, I recommend Born To Perform by Oz, Card College Series, Card College Lite, Michael Ammar Series, On The Pass.

Isaac

Roy Foo - November 11, 2007 06:07 AM (GMT)
For Starters in Card Magic, I highly recommend Oz Pearlman - Born to Perform and Michael Ammar - Easy To Master Card Miracles Series.
You may search for reviews around the web.

You may also want to get Royal Road to Card Magic or Expert Card Techniques on your book shelf. If you really keen and made up your mind that you would want to stick to Card Magic for the rest of your life, then go for Card College. ;)

Books are indeed relevantly cheaper than DVD Sets, they contain more materials than you can get from the DVD itself. However, for starters, I don't really recommend you to go directly into books as sometimes the words are typically hard to understand. The illustrations on the pages would help a little, but for a complete novice who doesn't even know the basics, it can be quite intimidating. But, if you happens to have a very good English proficiency level, and imaginations, it should be alright.

I personally don't have that high proficiency level in English, so my way of learning is to go for a few Basic DVDs first, then only thrust into books. You'll catch-up and understand the terms faster. This a very economical way of learning. But before that, it'll still cost ya~! ;)

Good Luck~!

Cheers,
Roy JR Foo

lol looks like everyone is saying Ellusionist's products aren't good, but what about tricks like Kaos and Stigmata and Bullet CTB, are they good ? And does anyone sell Oz Pearlman's Born to Perform cheap ?

Kam - November 11, 2007 07:17 AM (GMT)
Jesse, you shouldn't try to find what's "cheap". Yes, I think many of us understand that we sometime do not have the access to more money to purchase DVDs, but I suggest you to rather save up (and wait) and get the good ones, rather than getting cheap ones that sell weak foundation.

A lot of us here started with videos, and Roy Foo made an excellent observation. It seems to me you will settle well with videos, so be prepared to cough up your hard earned money. Don't be afraid to spend the money, but spend it wisely.

I will leave it to other people here to tell you which DVDs are good for starters.

Good luck.

Jon Goh - November 11, 2007 07:45 AM (GMT)
Personally to me not all E's stuff is useless... Stigmata and KAOS are nice but I'm afraid their CTB's do not appeal to me... For those who actually bought the CTB you would know what I mean... Anyway Oz is great I started out from there... Also I do not particularly like books cause I find quite hard to understand the sleights without proper visual assistance...

Adlan - November 11, 2007 08:04 AM (GMT)
Magic is an expensive hobby. When you start out, you are bound to spend a lot of money on things that you probably won't use. However, the theoretical, presentational and ideological aspects of what you bought will more than double the value of your purchase.

Down the road, you will find out what suits you best, and you will start to purchase things that are of practical use to you. This way you can spend more wisely.

Anyway, in the beginning it's probably the same for everybody. If you don't make a small sacrifice, you won't be able to get anywhere. Try saving up for something you really, really want instead of trying to get everything at a cheap rate.

And do listen to the ones who advised you to buy books. You get 100 effects in a book, whereas in a DVD you might get less than 15.

Good luck!

To me, Ellusionist's Products is more like a luxury, but it doesn't mean it's not good.

I'll takes this as an example, Roxy Wallet V Gucci Wallet. [I'm talking about Genuine Products, not the ones you can get from Petaling Street :P ]
They both have good quality, it's just the Brand Marketing.
One may cost around RM 100, another maybe RM 500 or more.
I think you get the idea.

For other individual products review, you can search Ellusionist Forum, The Magic Cafe Forum and even MMF Forum to get the answer. To abit of research on your own, you will appreciate it better.

Lastly, if you want to get Born to Perform cheap, you can buy 2nd handed, which is not recommended, from forum members. This is because it'll still cost you, more or less 80% of the Original Price. You might as well get a brand new copy from dealers. Why pay a little lesser when you can get a brand new for a little more? ;)
