Greg Wilson LICK on his thumb before he do it.. soemtimes.. when u have a long nail, u cant have the solid contact between ya thumbs and the card.. and also, bend it more wil helps.. those dua ringgit deck is way easier than bike ..

Hey Isaac,
I had troubles with long distance spinner too and i still do at times...
Wat i do is i practice with half deck of cards first... and slowlywork to a full deck of cards. Ya thumb action is important. dont give up... im sure u can manage it oneday.
Normally, now if i ever want to do a LDS, i would normally break the deck into half and do the move. easier for me... try it out. hope it helps

I cant do the long distance spinner so i use my own method :P In addition, i find it weird that a magician has to switch hands during a routine to spin the chosen card out.
Hence, I use another (shown a few people and they told me they hav never seen anything like it before but still not sure if i invented it lol cos tons of stuff are just 're-invented' and its hard to verify.) another way to spin a card.
The good thing of this method is that it does not require the magician to switch hands. The deck is held in his dealing hand in mechanics grip all the time.
I can spin the card in a forward arc from my left to my right hand, i can spin it diagonally upwards and it will spin back to the same hand, or i can do a varitation of the LDS, making the card fly in an upwards arc to my right hand. All using the same method and with dealing hand :P
PS: I use this method cos i am a utter failure with the LDS and have given up so if u can do the LDS, thats great!!
Cheers B)

andy .. mine to share ur way of doing it to us ??
em thk a lot for all ur opinion !!
my main problem of LDS is not high enuf ..
will keep practising !!!
Kam - May 9, 2005 06:26 AM (GMT)
Isaac, my way to get around that is to shake up the card when you toss it. Like, you don't only slide your thumb up, but you also move your wrist upward so it gives greater force to the tossed card.
(was that an exposure? Mods, edit when necessary B) )

I will see if i can make a vid of it in demo. :P I just need to find someone to hold the camera for me lol.
I cant share the method as altho i came up with it, it might have been featured somewhere else and i don wanna get into trouble with taking someone's method and calling my own. Thanks for understanding. ^_^
I was just playing around with spinning cards into the air (due to my utter failure at LDS) and came up with it so i do not know if it is taught anywhere. Anyway, will try to post it up once i have a demo and you guys can see if its original or not.
Oh ya can someone tell me where i can host it the vid once i have it up?
Cheers! ;)

Hi,
I think it's better to use US Bicycle decks to practise this LDS.
I tried local made cards, the cards are somewhat stiffs and tend to be sticky when you execute the LDS.
Yes, maybe you try half of the deck first, if you are efficient with half of the decks, then pursue to full deck, I think practise is the key to it. ^_^
All the best,
Andrew

I dont usually do the LDS as well as yeah sometimes breaking the deck into half just to do the move aint v pro. i use the er... i dunno wat the name for it. its where u hold the deck in vertical position and with ya index finger push the card down giving a lil pressure on it and then let go.. the card will pop out and spin up and down... like a rainbow and u catch it with ya other hand. anybody know wat this move is called?
the first time i saw it being done live was by a pro magician in perth australia...
he didnt teach me the move.. but i kinda saw how he did it and forced my self to learn it and adjust my own handling. i think its v good. better than LDS as LDS sometimes ya card just does not fly out hehe..

I think the move u are mentioning sounds similar to what i do. Just that i have never seen it performed, but managed to come out with it. It does fly in a rainbow but with practise, you can make it fly in whatever form of rainbow u like, vertical, horizontal, diagonally, etc
If it is the same, then i think i have finally found the creator!! I presume the deck is still held in the dealing hand in mechanics grip while doing this move right?
Thanks!!
Brendan Low - May 12, 2005 04:47 AM (GMT)
Hi Andy,
Nah, the grip is not mechanics grip. Its more of a biddle grip. but holding more towards the ends to make way for the card to shoot out. hehe
will be interesting to see how ur version is like :)

hi, i was having problem with the long distance spinner too. man, i can't seem to get it to fly out until i found this method - the one u are talking about. i got it to work in less than a minute and it is so easy to do u could even teach your pet dog to do it if he had fingers like us. lol. jk.
anyway, the method you were talking about is the Martin Lewis method. I read it from Ricky Jay's card as weapons ebook. I really want to share this with you guys because it is easy and creates a great visual effect almost effortlessly. It just takes time to get used to the grip and not drop some cards from the deck. admin, if this is against the rules, feel free to remove it.
1. Hold the deck in the left hand as shown.

2. The fleshy pads of the index finger and thumb are pressed into the corner of the deck.
3. The index finger pushes the top card down until it buckles upward pivoted against the thumb
4. The index finger presses down about half an inch and snaps towards the crotch of the thumb.
5. Then the card will end up spinning upwards.
The direction depends on how far left you snap your index finger.

God bless you, mclarenf1.
Kennard - July 31, 2005 02:30 PM (GMT)
did i do something wrong ?
Brendan Low - August 1, 2005 12:21 AM (GMT)
wow... nice drawing there mclarenf1. u did it in paint? very nicely drawn out dude. yeah.... its a very nice method to shoot a card out... and catching it.
ok , now whether u did something wrong.... hmmm... the rules said no exposure... i wonder if this is an exposure.... i gues its a more of a flourish move. its not a magic secret. If any one is against this, please let me know.
I personally think its a fine and cheers to mclarenf1 for sharing the move with us.... one day we'll all be shooting cards... haha.
tallking abt ricky jay, he is the guy that can throw can v v far one right? we should all learn and see who can throw the furthest... perhaps nxt time we meet we can have a competition on that.. haha... wat ya think?
Brendan
Kennard - August 1, 2005 04:20 AM (GMT)
Ya, he is a card thrower. He could throw about 90 mph. :!!:
and one more thing, he uses a nude model to demonstrate techniques.
Jeff Gan - August 1, 2005 04:33 AM (GMT)
i dont consider this exposure. dunno about the mods.
anyway thanks maclaren for the guide
ChongWei - August 1, 2005 04:53 AM (GMT)
the Master Lau/Ng/whoever did a street performance at Jonker Street for selling the herd med, can do a card throwing act as well.. with "superman" theme... .. kinda impressive thou... i duno if he still perform there.. maybe Andrew/B can go have a look ? and maybe "block" his throwing with YOUR card ?
Jeff Gan - August 1, 2005 06:14 AM (GMT)
ah foi,
is he the the guy who use his forfinger to poke a hole through a coconut husk and shell until the coconut water come out?
saw him doing card back palms as well. I went to talk to him after his show and he taught me a colour change :)
ChongWei - August 1, 2005 06:50 AM (GMT)
rainking , exactly~! SERIOUS? what colour change he teach you? wow.. cool..
he do a "card thru newspaper" as well...
Jeff - August 1, 2005 07:17 AM (GMT)
i cant really do lds as well.. but with practise, the Ring Finger Scaling in Showoff with Cards can make the card shoot as high as lds done by oz pearlman.. by the way, dont buy Showoff with Cards ;)
Kennard - August 1, 2005 07:49 AM (GMT)
How come ? I was thinking of getting it coz the preview looks so good. :o
Jeff Gan - August 2, 2005 01:51 AM (GMT)
ah foi,
he still performs there i think.
I dont know the name of the colour change , but its not very useful as a utility move, just for show. I'll call it the Jonker Change.
cool
I wonder if he uses a metal TT when he stabs the coconut with his forefinger?
but his finger becomes all bloody and swollen after he completes.
anyway, sorry guys, i know its off topic.
isaac - August 2, 2005 11:05 AM (GMT)
btw ..
doesn't that consider exposure ?
if like this we no need pay $$ to purchase video lo
lol
dunno la just personal opinion
anyway
yup i also using that method to shoot out card
LDS is better now .. but still cant shoot very very high
:)
Clement Josos - August 8, 2005 10:13 AM (GMT)
I tried using rubber TT to give extra grip when snapping the cards out. oz pearlman said it's a good way 4 beginners juz to master the proper way 2 do it. It jumps out real far but i'm still unable to do it without the TT...maybe i'll try mclarenf1's method
Andy - August 23, 2005 05:31 PM (GMT)
Guys, the method which i mentioned earlier which i came across can be found in De'vo's new DVD Xtreme Beginners!! Its a cool way to flick cards as u get to choose what kinda direction the card is made to fly.
I stumbled across this method by myself one lucky sunday while playing with my cards and am glad that i finally found the creator. I think it might be De'vo ^_^
Brendan Low - August 24, 2005 12:36 AM (GMT)
wow.. cool.... wat's the name of the it?
Andy, could you do a review of XB for us please? Cheers man!
