Well, in all honesty, I've got to do a speech on two things I do outside school. If you've met me, you'd know I like to be different and somewhat stand out. So, instead of doing all the "I hang out with family" and "I work at McDonalds" speeches(I do neither), I was thinking that one of my topics of speech would be Card Flourishing.
When writing it out, it struck me that I have absolutely no idea of how to define it. Normally, when people ask me, I'd say "it's all those pretty, spinny things that I do with cards", however, in a professional speech, I highly doubt that I can say "pretty, spinny things" or anything along those lines.
What do you guys say?
hmmmm sukyi, maybe u can say something like this:
Manipulating the cards in various ways that is eye candy to the eye. Card flourishing comes in many forms, like fanning, doing one handed cuts, two handed cuts etc.
Card flourishing has been around for quite a long time but only became popular about 4-5 years ago. Today, card flourishing has become a sport of its own. There are probably like 10,000 people from around the world who does this sport/hobby seriously these days.
I guess there's just so much to say abt Card flourishing... so let me just show you some of the flourishes I do (of course doing stuff u can really do without much probs and without dropping cards):
- Fanning
* Thumb Fan
* Pressure Fan
* One handed Fan
* S Fan
- One Handed Cuts
* Charlier Cut
* One Handed Revolution Cut
* Running Charliers
- Two Handed Cuts
* Sybils
* and the list goes on...
:D
Wiki - FlourishThat may be somewhat useful.
I think that a speech about flourish is a fine idea.
Do post out some of your ideas here, I would be interested in reading some of them.
Thanks guys. I didn't say very much in my speech about flourishing itself. I said it's basically any form of eye candy made with cards and that I've met a lot of people through it. I showed basic 4-faces of sybil, card spring, a bunch of fans and the werm at the end of my speech.
My peer reviews came back stuff like "that stuff with the cards is awesome!" in the additional comments. The rest of it was stuff actually related to speech techniques and not the content.
