Title: Whats Happening To Mmf Forum
Description: Where are the members ?

simonskp - May 19, 2008 09:31 AM (GMT)
What's happening to MMF.... are all the members too busy to log into the forum or there is no more topic to share about... ? It's sad to see that MMF is no longer active. MMF was the first forum that I participate in and also it provided me loads of information that was not available to me in the other media.
I understand that there are those who learn magic as a phase and soon they change to other stuff that is more interesting... but there are those who still continue on.

I am writing this to ask those who still log on to this forum to give some ideas on how can we revive this forum or are we going to let it rot away.

No offense to the moderators.
But IMHO there is too much control laid in this forum.
Meeting topics being locked etc.
Moreover now MMF is not the only magic forum now in Malaysia :) .
Most of us have our own "cliques" and gangs.
Thus when you open a topic and when no ppl replies, you wont bother opening another one.
One thing leads to another :)
I'm still very much attached to MMF because i started magic partly because of MMF.
Therefore i still login this website whenever i'm online even though nowadays its kinda dead :)

Sad to say, Whenever i log in i see nobody else is online except sometimes isaac's name.
Comparing the same time last year and this year, at this time there was a hype for the magic festival
now we are not even bothered to talk about it anymore. :P i also dunno why, not interesting anymore is it? Haha
No gatherings ?? I know Simon and I will have one
maybe things will get better after sometime.
Forum life cycle

Paul Long - May 19, 2008 11:05 PM (GMT)
IMHO forums are going the way of many blogs. it is like a fad. The same with things like Friendster, bebo, tag, facebook whatever ... loads of initial excitement and enthusiasm and then somethng new and exciting comes along and people just jump ship...

How many million people start blogs and then after some time never update them? ... slow natural and sometimes painful deaths. Why do they die? Too much competition? Nothing left to say? No interest? You decide.

Anybody know how many Malaysians magic forums have been started ... and died ...? Or school forums, church youth group forums etc .... They just die out.

For any forum to survive, there has to be a lot of commitment of time and energy. How many of us have the time, especially those of us who are no longer students but have work and family commitments. The moderators especially have nothing much to gain for their efforts.

And there's the big question, why bother to support MMF? If the reason is unclear, then by default, there will be little or no support.

Forums also need QUALITY ... and for a magic forum that means real knowledge, real experiences etc.

It also requires that forumites be able to write and communicate decently.

Every now and then I drop by the MMF forum - only when I have time and need a distraction break from other matters

1. To see if I can get a better insight on what's happening in the Malaysian magic scene
2. Nostalgia? MMF was the first Malaysian based magic forum I was invited to participate in.

I seldom post nowadays because:

1. Most threads don't interest me
2. Most seem a waste of time (poor quality, unclear etc)
3. I generally have nothing worth saying (don't want to add to no.2)
4. I can't banter and kid around with most people as I have not met them (no one's fault here)

For me, if one is unhappy, consider leaving and starting another forum (not being antagonistic, just practical). If MMF is worth it, it will survive because there will be people committed to it.

For me it is not necessarily a negative thing for a forum or blog etc to die or fade away - it may merely be that it may have outlived its purpose.

No offense but ...

One Major Issue:

Some of the Admin have not log in to MMF for more than a month.
Some of the Moderator Last Log in is in YEAR 2007. (by the way is gonna be June 2008 very soon)<_<

When the leaders do not give a **** to the forum, I guess non of us will bother to do it.

They do not even bother taking a look on the forum.
Jeff G is the only one working on the team.
Why not we remove MMF name and change it to JGF?

We have gone through this roller coaster (active, not active, active again, not active) many many times since the beginning.

Let's see how this goes.

I hope to clear any doubts, that everyone is free to talk about an event, give feedback and all. You attend an event and you want to talk about it, please feel free to do so. (Chris, I'm just using your quote as an example, not specifically addressing what you said.)

The only kind of topic we lock is any ads, or official event announcements by third parties, to avoid unnecessary complications.

Christopher Ng - May 21, 2008 06:02 PM (GMT)
Yea sure Jeff no problem
I believe that is the life cycle.
We have time to participate in forums, we need time to rest as well.
Some day some new batch will come and bring alive the forum again
Maybe the hype will start all over again

Kam - May 26, 2008 10:51 AM (GMT)
I dunno, but uhm, I guess it's sorta inevitable that it will come down to this eventually. With all the cliques and gangs and shit (and the fact that "magic" is no longer an exclusive-kind of hobby, whatever that means), the godmother that started it all would have to go along with the wave of the new generation. Not saying this place is old (well it is probably the oldest Malaysia based magic forum on the net), but at least seeing how this forum has generated discussions and awesome meet ups, I'm glad I've been a part of this place. MMF started it all, in style, and the sphere of influence exploded.

If we want to revive this forum, rescale the audience.

But I take 99% of the blame for being such an inactive moderator.

Jarrett Goh - May 27, 2008 01:29 PM (GMT)
Hahahaha!

All I can say is..

I feel lucky that I've managed to be a part of MMF while it was GOOD.

Older members would understand what I meant by that.

P.S Kam where are you staying now? If you're still in Melbourne, let's meet up. Hard to find magic friend to lepak with.. all the people I know already in Uni, all so busy. PM me back =]

yinhowe - May 28, 2008 06:44 AM (GMT)
All right, this seem to be the most happening topic in MMF since a long time...

Yeah, I still remember when I first joined this forum. Met a lot of people which now I am honoured to call my friends today. When I went to the Subang Magics Fes this time last year, I didnt know anyone, I only recognised people like Jeff Gan and David Lai due to their photos appearing in this forum and got to know many many others as well... haha..
I feel lucky that I've managed to be a part of MMF while it was GOOD.
Ditto man..

I guess partly why the forum become not-so-active is that the magic community here in Malaysia is not so established as well.

In a twist of irony... Right now I'm also one of those "late-night waking, 3d drawing, assignment rushing, caffeine drinking, cocaine snorting" university person with bloodshot eyes.

2 more freaking weeks!

Jarrett Goh - June 3, 2008 11:51 AM (GMT)
O_O *slides away*

Well, good luck to you then. My eldest brother also rushing to get his assignments done. He is stuck in his room 24/7, I'm also like that, but not quite for the same reason =]

Will contact you later when you pass out =P

Raynour - June 6, 2008 04:22 PM (GMT)
Well, i dont have much to say, but, i still support MMF, Go Go MMF,
He......he....... erm..uh...yeah........go..go...Ehem..yeah that's better.

I think, many of MMF forum-mates (correct me if im wrong) were just too busy. I'm sure you guys know that, there were Lots of things had happen lately, you know, exam for the students, election and campaigns, price hike, financial problem for the those who had family (you know what i mean).

Or maybe magic is not so interesting now (for them!!), since Ezad were on TV, Lots of people starts learning magic, even my mates who never showed any interest in magic tricks, suddenly come-up with a few tricks, and as the time passed by, they get bored, they left it behind (because they are not SERIOUS!!!), then they start to act like a SMART PERSON, whenever they see a magician on performance, they jump in, claiming that they KNOOOOW the trick, and claim that magicians are a bunch of liars, which irritated me.

I think i've gone too far from the topic, sorry bout that if I DO..(hey, just trying to be active)

Bye mates, have a good life...

Brendan Low - June 8, 2008 01:54 AM (GMT)
Hey guys,

Just like to update you guys with my life in Syd, Aus.

It has been ages since I had chance to come online. I have no internet at this new place I live in. But I will be getting it soon.

I am now using someone else's computer to check my emails.

Even at work, im not allowed to visit MMF or other sites...

So... lately... im so out of date with magic and magic news.

BUT.... the good news is....

- Im still playing with my cards as crazy as before... (cant seem to loose the passion)
- I will be getting my internet soon (hopefully next week)... it will be a mobile internet which only alllows me 3GB a month. So i will definitely check in MMF more often and post and catch up.

Good to see some of you still active.

How are you guys back in M'sia. Miss you all. Im sure you guys have improved much.

At the moment, I've found like 2-3 people whom I can flourish and jam with here... and we try to meet like once every 2 weeks. Lots of new moves and variations....

Not sure when will go back to msia but when i do, I would surely like to meet up with you guys.

Will be back in the forums shortly.

Take care and cheers!
Brendan

I'm really sorry for being inactive, but probably it's bcoz my progress in magic is really not that much..i'm still a card-guy..still can't bend the spoon yet=p

And for all my old frens, medically, i've finished my housemanship 6 months ago and i'm going to be a medical officer in emergency department by end of this month..should be busier i think..=)

Let me just show this pic..our very first MMF gathering..our golden memory!=)
