Title: Bicycle Deck Rm20 In Penang
Description: who is selling it cheaper?
cardevect - June 19, 2008 11:43 PM (GMT)
With all due respect to some magicians in Penang...I don't want to name out names but I've met with 2 magician/dealer and I just can't find someone selling bicycle at a cheaper price here. Why do magicians here hike up their price so high. RM20 for just a normal bicycle. Very disappointing.
Many times, it is not that people do not want to support them or dont have the money to buy but it just feels that i'm being cheated and not only that it is discouraging as well some times.
I use to get many stuff from sg when I was there. But now i'm back in Penang and it's hard to get a even a normal bicycle card at a reasonable price.
Anyway to the 2 magicians from Penang and I know one guy is in this forum, I just bought 12 decks for RM120 instead of RM240 from another source and i get free 6 dice as well which I'll think of what do with them later =)

Firstly, do understand I'm not a dealer, but there are a few items you should consider :-
If you really wanna know what it costs, try ordering a few deck of cards from abroad in yourself and then you'll really know the actual cost of bringing these decks in. Some guys are lucky and escape tax but not everyone is as lucky. They are usually very high.
And then there is the overheads and profit of a few ringgit. You can't expect them to so business and not make money, as they took the risk of ordering, knowing Post Malaysia's "efficiency" and also the risks of incurring high taxes, and also running to Mas Kargo at Sepang to bail the stuff out if Customs confiscate it.
All these are serious factors.

What you said is true but then my friend from JB, they are getting it for RM15 from a Magic Shop. I'm not saying that dealers should not make profit but things like cards are often used and we change them quite often. I just want them to sell it at a more reasonable price. Thats all. =)

Totally agree with Jeff. Just to add another point, they pay for thier premis too. I think that RM20 still reasonable. If you search in ebay, 6 packs of bike cost $8.99( RM34.20. Not included postage, custom, etc. So for me, it's still consider as okay. :D But you can always buy from other if you're not satisfy with the price

You're right. Cards are often used. But, cards that cost RM1X are not often used. :)

Hmm, something interesting to debate
A plate of chicken rice sold rm2.50 in Muar, I just had one.
A same plate of chicken rice can be as high as rm10+ in hotels, Pavillion, klcc, etc
If the price is too high, don't buy, but do not say you are being cheated, they stated the price, they din't lie or conceal any facts from you
When there is high competition, prices will drop
When there is no competition, items will be sold at premium, as bicycle playing cards are often considered as luxury in Malaysia... :D
And most importantly they do not often get the chance to sell the decks, not like a plate of common chicken rice.
Now, why no one mention about Jerry Nuggets? are they fairly priced? haha

Cards costing RM1x ~ 3x are often used by magicians in Malaysia.
Only by magicians lah :P
Maybe using an expensive deck makes them magical
Peace,
Chris.

1st, a shop need to pay rental, overhead, bills, taxes, etc etc.
Try running one before you start complaining about pricing.
Try not to compare online shop with brick and mortal shop.
It will be amazing to find any bike priced below RM16 in KL.
Shop you are paying for the service, the teaching, the performance, and the personal touch of magic. That is something you can never find in an online magic shop.
2nd, they put a price tag. It is an "invitation to treat".
Consumer have the right to buy or not to buy.
No one ever point a gun and force.
3rd, Demand and Supply.
I have seen area selling Tiger Deck for RM60 and people are willing to pay for it.
I have seen some website selling RM30 yet people still complaining about the pricing.
4th, Singapore can get cheaper why not Malaysia?
Singapore have an USPCC main dealer and they are distributing it.
SG have a much lower import tax in comparison to Malaysia.
Even in Australia, I can import 1000aud worth of stock without having to worry about taxes.
Malaysia anything above RM500 is taxable.
5th, Magic Items are not Pasar Malam goods = "cheaper the better".
It is never a common goods and It is always High End and Exclusive product.

Just so you guys know the price of decks in Aus.
In Aus, magic shop in sydney sells their bikes for AUD9.95.
And then ghost deck or Black decks cost AUD12.95.
So looking at these prices, i'd more probably but black decks or ghost or special decks.
The david blaine decks will be coming in soon and will be sold for AUD15.00
THe exchange rate is abt 1AUD = 3.15 RM now....

Sometimes location and forex make huge difference
The cost of a bicycle in USA= price of a cup of coffee
Price of an E deck= a plate of pasta
Here in our country,
A bicycle = a cup of star bucks
Price of an E deck= a buffet in hotel.
