Title: Osterlind's Making Magic Real
Description: Review

Just bought this ebook for SGD$17 bucks and after reading it, thought i should perhaps write a short review on it

This is material purely on magic theories so magicians, who are only interested in books that teaches sleight of hand, might wanna give this a miss.

Chapters in the book:

1. Foreword
2. The Magic State of Mind
3. If You Believe in Your Magic, So will Others
4. The Mental State of Mind
5. Taking Advantage of Real Magic
6. Expanding the Magic State of Mind
7. Knowing What the Magic Is
8. A Final Word

Osterlind explores what we magicians lack after too much exposure to magic. How often have we lost the sense of awe when we now see an effect and feel the joy of having mastered one? When was the last time we actually felt excited at a new effect or watching a magic performance?

He explains how these lack of excitement is directly proportional to the reaction we get from the audience. Meaning, If we do not believe that we are doing 'Real Magic', how do we expect the audience to believe too?

He goes one to explain what is the 'Magic State of Mind', why is it important and how we can still believe that we are doing Real Magic despite knowing the methods.

References were made on how to make things move by just 'willing' them to. He uses i***-m**** re*** to achieve this. For example, if you had watched his mind mysteries series, he has an effect called "uncanny" where a card turns face up by itself. He explains the theory behind this effect.

He also touched on how we should reveal the spec's selection so as to increase the impact and also when you should do the required ca********* while using the Breakthrough Card System and why.

Just to quote a small part on how he thinks of magicians who feel that they should only perform using hard-to-do sleights, which i highly agree with:

"....I believe these group needs to satisfy their ego by knowing their magic requires "skill". That attitude is as pointless as a musician that thinks good music means playing a lot of difficult notes."

He goes on to elaborate what he means when he says to believe in Real Magic. He gives example on how to make simple coin vanishes into something which is really astonishing and compares how revelations of a selected card can vary and the methods to use.

Finally, he touched the fact that in order to perform Real Magic, we need to know what we are trying to achieve. If not, a magic effect would be mundane and would not be interesting. He believes that our mindcept is what governs the overall impact of an effect.

To quote again:

"Its amazing how often the audience will pick up on what is going on in your mind."

Anyway, this is an extremely enriching read which really made me think about what i have learnt during my 2 year magic journey. The concepts discussed are real useable (althou a tad tough on the mind) and can really heighted both mental and card or even coin effects.

This is different from stuff released by Luke Jermay and Kenton Knepper which requires u to tap into the subconcious mind of spectators using NLP, etc. This ebook is more about 'yourself' and how you can 'will' things to move or influence spectators through your own mindcept. Its really workable theories. How i know? we do things using his method all the time without noticing it.

I give it a 8/10 Minus 2 due to it being SGD$17 for a 25 page book, 23 page if u minus off the cover page and one page on the copyrights.

This book is NOT to be confused with 'Making Real Magic' as that is a different book which costs USD$20.

You can purchase "Making Magic Real' here. They accept paypal only.

Hey! i took 40 min typing this review, pondering what to reveal and what not to so as to prevent exposure. And its hard to review a 23 page book which consists of theories alone. So appreciate what i have done!!

Just a side track:

Osterlind used to do billard ball manipulations and such,
He has a music degree from college
He reads Harry Porter and made many references to it in this ebook
