Hi folks,

Just recently, I bought many books (some quite long ago) and I think it's a good and worth it to share with you all my fellow magician friends here. :)

Following are the Books CDROMS, Ebooks and DVDS:

Books
=====

1. Dave Campbell Legacy (Limited editions!!!!!!!)
2. Killer Koncepts by Aldo Colombini, Peter Duffie & Robin Robertson
3. Focus by Phil Goldstein (Out of print!!)
4. The King has left the building...w/t amnesia by Jeff Pierce (Finished selling)
5. By Forces Unseen by Ernest Earick (Out of print!!)
6. Classic Magic of Larry Jennings (Out of print!!)
7. Card Finesse by Jon Racherbaumer (Out of print!!)
8. CardZones by Peter Duffie & Jerry Sadowitz (Being reprinted by Martin Breese)
9. Peter Duffie's 'Effortless Card Magic' (Out of print!!)

CDROM
=====
1. Steven Youell - Hacking the Pass

DVDs
====

1. Queens Out of Control - Gerry Griffin
2. Solomon's Mind - By David Solomon
3. Hit the road - Paul Wilson and Lee Asher

Ebooks
======

1. Closely Guarded Secrets by Michael Close
2. Peter Duffie's Devious Dates
3. Dark Angel by Peter Duffie & Roy Walton
4. Rippin On Leipzig by Steven Pellegrino
5. Free From Filler - By Euan Bingham
6. Ripped & Repaired by David Forrest

Wow! All these above materials are AWESOME.

The 'By Forces Unseen' book is a book that is catered for more 'Advanced Magician'. I am just master 1 effect in this book currently, I LOVE to learn more, as others are not easy to perform, quite angle sensitive. But, this book is a good read and learning experience.

If you want to have some easy and high impact on the spec, try 'Dark Angel' and 'Devious Dates'. Very good!

If you love card magic, you would like to read ebook like 'Closely Guarded Secrets', 'Free From Filler', 'Ripped & Repaired'. These ebooks you will need some card sleights knowledge in order to explore, otherwise you will get disappointed as you are not familiar the sleights, you can't continue to read on the effects. If you love to perform torn n restored (T&R) routine and you don't have time to practise, then I would recommend you to read 'Ripped & Repaired'. The Forrest's handling of T&R is sooo visual.

Hey, Hit the road is the I enjoyed most of this DVD. In this DVD, you have the chance to meet all the masters and learn some of their effects.

Queens out of control DVD is a KILLER packet effect, get it and you will not disappointed. But, have to admit that it's a little bit expensive! It's the secret valuable, right??? :)

If you frustrating of the classic pass, riffle pass, Hermann Pass ................ so on, get Steven Youell's Hacking the pass. The Pass is so nice in its execution and difficult to detect.

If you love Peter Duffie's kind of writing style (he is awesome), then please read Dave Campbell Legacy book. This book what I can say is WOWWWWWWWWWWWW, this is one of the best collections of magic book in my bookshelf. The effects are soooo clever and if you like Cannibal card routine, then read this book, this effect will blow both spec and fellow magicians away.

The Killer Koncepts is a concepts which taken from Steve Beam of his vriation of Hamman count. Read this book and you can apply this count alone in many areas.

If you love packet card tricks, I can't recommend other book than Focus by Phil Goldstein. For those of you, you are not familiar with this name, he is a.k.a Max Maven, a mentalist. As you can see him in quite a number of times in our local TV programme NTV7 and TV3 in World's Greatest Magic.

Jeff Pierce maybe not familiar to you folks, his The King has left the building...w/t amnesia books are BEST SELLING and he was limited to 100 copies and now already SOLD OUT on his website. His meterials are REALLY, REALLY, REALLY clever and I love them because it's esy to perform but plays BIG!!!!

Don't worry, you can purchase his ebook version here: http://www.members.aol.com/jeffpiercemagic/magic.html

Oh folks, forget to tell you folks, if you can get these books now 'Classic Magic of Larry Jennings', 'Card Finesse' and 'CardZones','Focus by Phil Goldstein', please do an EFFORT to get them NOW as there are now OUT OF PRINT and I don't know whether publishers will publish again or not. These books are one of the CLASSICS. Otherwise, you will get disappointed!!!!!!!!

If you don't have time to practise and would like to entertain and BLOW you specs away, try Duffie's 'Effortless Card Magic', this book is a true gem.

Wow! huuuuuuuu. That's all the info I provide to you folks. I certainly hope the above books info can really help you folks in your magic undertakings. All the materials I listed above are high quality. Of course, I will not list those 'not qualities' magic materials here as I don't want you folks to waste your money.

Still haven't reading and explore the above materials guys, that's lots of homeworks for me about 3 months to complete and explore. :o

All the best to you guys!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers,
Andrew Loh

Have you encountered any problems buying via the internet?

Long ago I tried paypal but had difficulty as Malaysia was blacklisted.
I think it is fine now but I worry about such purchases (fraud etc)

Any experience you would care to share that may be helpful in this area?

Thanks

Thanks for the input

Wierd thing is that I had no prioblems with ellusionist in terms of their service. Though on the magic cafe I read some very harsh comments.

So local credit cards are ok and reliable via penguin magic? Thanks...

I got some products from there more than a year ago but I asked a friend to buy for me via her US credit card and bring it back for me - and when she came back to Malaysia I paid her back. (To make use the free shipping clause and save money)

A couple of questions if you don't mind

1. What's the basic percentage of cost increase of a prodcut when shipped to Malaysia?

2. What are some of the best products you have bought from penguin?

Thanks

Paul

I cant really remmeber the details.. but penguin is giving the flat rate of shipping cost.. IF not mistaken.. but they do charge extra for heavy stuff like.. books.

Well, Liquid Metal? as well as the spool of elastic thread ....

which item u wish to get from penguin ?

Not really sure what I want to get actually as their advertising is pretty slick making practically everything look good.

Always wanted some kind of utility pouch and Jay Sankey's seems so cool. But I wonder whether it is over hyped since I can't figure out (yet) the basic principle behind how it works. Wouldn't want to buy and regret if you kow what I mean.

I guess I am more keen on not just a single effect but something that can be used in multiple known effects or can be modified for other creative use.

Loops for example interest me as I can see the huge potential of such a prop.

Paul

p/s Am really enjoying your input. Thanks.

ChongWei - March 4, 2005 02:30 AM (GMT)
yea.. loops.. a very good investment (only if u really work on it) .. it allows u to play with your own creativity.... i would say, the E.T i bought... isn't that bad.. quite elastic...

but i have not really play with it.. hehe.. lazy to tie on loops... my handwork sucks big time ! anyone willing to help? then maybe i'll give away few loops for him... kekekke
