Title: Cards/decks I Live Without

Fellow Malaysian Magicians,

What's your take on blank cards, tiger deck, missing pips, shrinking of cards, etc.

I'm putting this here instead of CARD MAGIC forum because it's about spectator's mentality about YOUR magic, not about card effects.

Okay, it's like this. Personally, I don't like (and have never done) any card magic that involves the cards to suddenly hilang the pips, or the cards shrinking, or the colour of the card is so rare that it doesn't look like any cards we can easily find in Malaysia.

Give you a scenario. If I show an 'invisible deck' trick to a friend. There is hardly a question on "eh, that's a trick deck ah?". But what if you show a trick like Blizzard (all cards become blank), surely Malaysian spectators will think "Wah... this magician uses special cards, sure ada trick deck one."

I think my credibility as a magician is stronger when I do tricks that seems as if I simply buy the deck from 7-11 or any kedai runcit. Spectators won't even question if it's a trick card in the first place, and after the magic is done, because they see ordinary card, front and back.

Of course, I do use double back and front, but never ever to show that to spectator. Purely to enhance the magic only. You all can flame me lar if you want, but that's my thought. What about yours? Any bad feedback from spectator using out-of-the-ordinary decks?

For my case, no matter what typo card magic i do, people still think its trick deck.. a DL makes them grab the deck and check or try to split it.. with BTD, or even with Jaws deck.. when ppl couldn't find an explaination for it, they'll think its because of some gimmick.. to me, magic is about fun, thats why i learn magic.. so, gimmick or not, not a problem for me.. ofcos, with a normal deck means u'll be able to do it anytime anywhere

Wow... I don't know why, but nobody ever asked if I use a trick deck. Of course that's because I never performed to anybody HAHAHAH jk.

The fact for me is that if the trick is beyond their comprehension level, such as NFW! where all the cards shown are just four, they would have the urge to ask.

I guess it comes down to how you (we) present the effect... a color change is a crazy stuff for people who rarely see magic upclose, but why do we rarely get a question on whether it's a trick deck or not?

hmmm

i was using my bicycles to show a friend a short ACR routine. Before i started, he look at me and say "hey what kinda card is this? never see before this type of card"

so i kept the bikes and took out my sve***li deck , made with 100% born in Kepong playing cards. "this one ok. This type i know is normal card"

man, sometimes christmas comes early
;)

switch to coins :!!:

I used to carry 2 decks ard but now, i don even carry one lol.

There will come a time when your friends get sick of you performing and then when you whip out a deck, they wil go

"Urgh!! Not Again!!" or "I heard my Mummy calling, Cya!"

VERY true.

Actually I started this thread to not really talk about trick decks lar. More like using cards that is really out of the ordinary like BLANK face cards. You know, acting like you eat the pips and then handing them the blank face cards. How's your spectators reaction to that? Anyone ever do blank card magic?

Oh.. I do have spectators saying "Eh, that bicycle deck David Blaine use one". And I say "Yup, it's a good quality card. Wanna feel?" Haha... it throws any chances of them thinking it's a trick deck, even if it is!!

I haven't used Svengali much though,...too risky. They sure wanna see the deck right after that, unlike Invisible deck.
