Hello T
I never worked in magic shops b4 but how i wish i can :). if i was still a student i will definitely apply for it lol.
I truly believe in walk in interview rather than just giving them ya resume and say bye bye. If i were u, i will walk into a magic shop, say magic ring for example, have a chat with the dudes there and then show some stuff and ask them abt their jobs, experience and then later ask abt wanting to work there? tell them u are realy v interested and how u can help them.
i think if they see the passion in u, then it might work out. but u gotta know more abt magic and able to do some magic too b4 u apply.
man, i think there's a lot of benefits when u work in magic shops. surely u will learn a lot.
Let me know how u go if u do try it out yeah. All the best T!

If pay is not the matter then working at magic shop definitely is the best place to improve your magic skill and knowledge as well. Even though i love magic but i would rather keep it as my life time hobby. Maybe it'd be the wisest choice. who knows. ^_^

Personally i would think that you just need to have 'okay okay' sleights or skills...but presentation and crowd management will play a crucial part..
how you can manage big crowd...whether u'll screw up in front of audiences due to pressure...etc
if u're a good performer..then u'll be in! well at least if i own a magic shop, i'll look for a good performer, rather than a skillful magician who can't really perform...
i just came back from a non magic performance, but a very entertaining and solid singing, comedy, acting performance...i think nowadays, magicians need to be like them too...it's like entertaining the crowd on stage

yes agree... presentation is like 80% of magic. skills required only like 20%. unless u do visual magic without much patter, then its the opposite. B)
