last time (years ago) when i kena tax, the DHL guy will call up and tell u to collect the item at their office and pay the tax. If the item is not collected within certain duration, theyll send back to the shipper address

I am really surprise to hear this, how you guys kena taxes??? Normally, when you pay everything including the postage, shipping, etc all these already included in, right????

Andrew

nothing to be so surprise, because the tax is applied by local custom, which they're the one to deicde to tax or not to tax.

Penguinmagic, in my experience, ships merchandise as "SAMPLES" or "GIFTS" which, as far as I know, are NON-TAXABLE by customs.

If (and hopefully when) I order 3 bricks BT from Ellu*, I would specify that Ellu fill in a customs declaration at the US side to say that their package is a GIFT or a SAMPLE.

(*hint hint)

FYI
Only time I ordered from Penguin was via a freind working in the USA (via her local / US credit card) so i don't know about taxes.
But I have ordered videos from Ellusionist before (quite a few years ago) and there was no taxes.

OH ... I also ordered from maxello (Thailand) a few months ago ... quality of some of the stuff poor or so so but then again it was cheap so I should have known better ;) - too cheap to pay for the big time manufactuers stuff.

But no complaints as this postage was cheap and no tax problems :D

something to clarify here, previously i thought when item declared as "GIFT" then it's NON taxable.. but am wrong.. people in my company (logistic co.) told me, its the SAME with all category.. as long as the custom tak syiok / u're so unlucky that they randomly pick and selected your parsal to inspect, as long as they like, they can give any reason to tax you.

so scary meh ...

now i worry edi

hmp but so far .. seem like nobody kena b4

except Afoi personal goods :(

Andrew Loh - June 22, 2005 01:56 PM (GMT)
I am not sure but I heard from other ppl before that they will only tax those items like we order big kind of stuffs like stage magic stuffs, etc.

But, I am not really sure is it this rings true for those items. :P

townbaby - July 26, 2005 02:24 PM (GMT)
Menurut Akta Cukai 198*, Tax for item worth below than RM500 will be waive. No need to worry.
