Title: Hi Hi.. Chris Here ;) Magixfusion

Magixfusion - June 15, 2005 04:20 PM (GMT)
Hi hi.. just joined MMF recently.. Wow.. can't imagine my good friend set this whole forum up.. Well.. Good job.

I'm a singaporean who is travelling down to Malaysia to boost the economy in a weeks time.. lols.. (funny way of putting it)

Well will be living before the magic club starts.. =( but.. well that's not the end of magic :) So i'd be so glad to stay updated.

I have learnt a fair bit on magic.. But recently, i have decided to devote magic time to ambitious card routine. Trying to make it shocking to magicians and laymen.. Just for the fun of it.. My aim is to be able to have an exciting ambitious card routine lasting 45mins.

Well.. hope to know more of you guys??

have a great day ;)

Welcome to the board Chris.

Did you say 45 mins worth of Ambitious Card Routine??!? Holy sniphfist!

Brendan Low - June 16, 2005 12:06 AM (GMT)
Hey Chris!
Finally u r are here..... great :)...

welcome onboard.... fasten ya seat belt and lets have a wonderful journey together.

Chris, a nice dude who let me crash over at his place when in spore. hehe... had a wonderful magic and flourish jamming session at his place with another fren Nicholas from SMC.

So Chris, u really wanna take the ACR to the next level eh? Great! Cant wait to see it. but 45 mins!?!?!

Have fun bro!
Brendan

CLJ - June 16, 2005 03:03 AM (GMT)
If you can hold up an ambitious card routine for 45 minutes, well...um, you can't. And that's the whole point, because an Ambitious Card routine at best should be kept down to around 4 or 5 phases - I have no idea how Daryl won that FISM award that he did with that overkill of an ambitious card routine. No one could humanly be able to stick through 45 minutes of watching a card rise to the top a jazillion times. Maybe you should consider spending your time on creating something more new and original instead of trying to overdo something that, well, has already been overdone as it is.

Oh yeah, with that said, what's up.

C.

Hi Chris,

welcome to the MMF.

45 mins . Thats like watching 1 half of a football game !

Eric Liew - June 16, 2005 06:55 AM (GMT)
I know how to take your ACR to the next level! In fact, your whole card magic to the next level....
Just use the black tiger cards, as what Brad Christian said
heheh

ChongWei - June 16, 2005 07:16 AM (GMT)
IMO, 45 mins seems like, way too long for me.. its like firework show.. i dun think ppl will "wow" for 30 mins.. but it would be very dificult in doing 45 mins of ACR.. hpe to see it ~ heh

Brendan Low - June 16, 2005 08:07 AM (GMT)
Yeah, 45 mins of Ambitious is surely too long, too difficult to even imagine, unless u have other definition of ACRs.

the most common ones are card keep jumping back to the top, but u can also use variations to card jump into mid air and u catch it, or card into pocket, or mouth or levitate off the deck ...etc but wow... 45 mins?

to me ACRs are best to keep short. id say 3-7 mins max depending u u wanna talk talk patter patter (story telling) or not.

Chris, watever u do... work on it coz i surely would like to see how many variations of ACRs u can do. will be interesting to see :P.

Brendan

Charlston - June 16, 2005 10:05 AM (GMT)
huh??
first welcome to here and the WONDERFUL WORLD OF MAGIC
then when u say ambitious routine with 45 min...
mmm....
YAWN!!!
sien lo......
even if i do comedy magic on stage for 45 min str8 ppl will laugh till their lower jaw CRAM.....
try lo... think abt other stuff like maybe adding coins magic in between ur card magic with a finalle of a liquid production...
well, just a suggestion...

Andrew Loh - June 16, 2005 02:29 PM (GMT)
Hi Chris,

Welcome you on board.

Huh??? - 45 mins???!?! Unless you have amazing and many other means of creating this routine become very interesting and not bored the audience. Or you have wonderful patter. ^_^

Andrew

It's a noob tendency! DON'T DO IT!!!

And it can't be shocking to magicians unless you got strong knowledge of sleights and creativity in your head. Not only that, you must have the physical prowess. If you have not trained stuffs that make your fingers strained for hours, then you have not reached the level. *cough* ssshhh, we'll reveal when you have reached the level *cough* ;)

Shock the laymen, not hard but you must be aware who you're trying to shock. Like how much does the people know about magic. But for 45 minutes? Are you doing it in slow-mo? Hmm.... not gonna shock but the best one still is one way force ambitious and then a deck switch(mini shock) at the end. Maybe switch a svengali between for convincers. But I still say, don't do ambitious too many. 5 minutes already can ambitious many times...

People will wow the first time and then more and more quiet..... and then start to go toilets. And then you die.

Just kidding about the dying part. And welcome!

Magixfusion - June 27, 2005 06:09 AM (GMT)
Nice comments.. yah relax about it ;) i'm still working on it. I tried to post in school and got cut off.. lazy to type long again..

This is basically what i have to say.
1) I'm still pending if 45 mins would be the exact time i wanna try to hit. (cos i heard some magician did it! A well known one lols.. Well if i attempt i might just hit 15 mins.. which is IMO kinda ok..)
2) My definitation of Ambitious is not just jumping to the top.
here are some of the things included.

-> Card through Window (ambitious to the window..lols)
-> Clearly showing one faced up card on the table and putting it in the center of the deck and then making it jump back to the top.
-> Clearly showing it's not their card then, it becomes their card on the table.
-> jumping to the btm.
-> Clearly jumping back to btm.
-> Logic of elevator (have any one seen this performance)
-> Obvious top palm suddenly becomes marked card to find losed card.
-> John kennedy CTW
-> Forced Card switch deck.
-> Sanky's torn card transpo (sorry forgot real name)
-> 2-3 magician foolers.. (or rather for hecklers)
-> etc...

- LOTS OF ACTING.. lols.. and jokes etc to make the thing drag.. But all with the same focus of ambitious. Inclusive will be things like lighter, can drinks, snapple bottle, HP photo.

yah.. that's where i've tot till now.. dont put too much hopes on me.. But i'll work on it ;)

Peter - June 27, 2005 07:38 AM (GMT)
i count and count and count also cannot think how the list of things u are about to include can make up to 45 minutes. are u going to crack a lot of jokes in between it?? even so... i personally think 45 minutes is too long unless u are trying to make a movie show and then have a magic fusion st uff in between  beats me how u are going to do it...

Magixfusion - June 27, 2005 09:20 AM (GMT)
Hmm.. why do i feel all of you think i'm definitely gonna force it to 45 mins? that's a goal i set myself.. That's a goal i'll try to hit.. either way, i'm not comfirming anything.. so please dont push your hopes too high on me ;) thanks..

Peter - June 27, 2005 05:28 PM (GMT)
good target by the way... i will give u a standing ovation plus 3 kow tows with a glass of tea even if u come close to 30 minutes... no pressures though...

i'll even throw in a can of coke for good measure.

Ignatius - June 29, 2005 04:12 AM (GMT)
U should try performing for real. Or if you have, then definitely u have not performed enough coz the estimate of performing up to 45 minutes is not possible with just stuff related to ambitious card or card to pocket, wallet...chosen card(and calling them altogether an "ambitious card trick" clearly shows your inexperience). U will have yawns and boredoms and stuff. Either u shorten your time or add variety of other stuffs like coins, cigarettes, notes, stage illusions,....etc.

Kam - June 29, 2005 04:28 AM (GMT)
Guys, give magixfusion some slack :) it all comes through experience. Maybe he's going to find something interesting in his journey of VERY long ACR, ya know. I mean who knows what stuff one could come up with, cus I'm sure there's probably none of use who have tried doing so.

Brendan Low - June 29, 2005 04:38 AM (GMT)
yeah man... common its not easy trying to do ACR for more than 30 mins man... lol...

if chris can do it... well done... i doubt it can be very interesting but hey, who knows anything can be possible with magic rite?

keep going chris... lol! show me when u are ready! :P

Brendan

Peter - June 29, 2005 05:53 AM (GMT)
yeah... show us when u are ready!!!

Ignatius - June 29, 2005 12:47 PM (GMT)
Just wanna let you know it's been tried before by many magicians which is why I said what I said. It's possible to pull off but the problem is the reaction will leave only a moderate or non the good impression like a Matrix sequel but possibly with very few cool parts. Pls imagine you're sitting there watching magic with only about catching that one card with high and low moments throughout the show for 45 minutes.... Do you know how long 45 minutes is? But if you MUST try this, I can only think this is feasible by conjuring some interesting story/journey for 45 minutes..... which will drain your brain and time and therefore you will learn yourself that doing an "ambitious card trick" for 45 minutes is a waste of your resources.

Hmm...while explaining this, it reminded me of using physics' "electron through barrier" explanation for an ambitious or card through table. Have to use that for physics students though. hahaha. (sorry, only those who read that part of physics will understand... try google for it if you wanna know) :P

Magixfusion - June 29, 2005 01:57 PM (GMT)
ok lahz.. let's stop all this HE CAN/HE CAN'T discussion ^_^
For those who're supportive.. thanks alot B) I'll try my best at it. I havent been touching other forms of magic for almost 3 weeks. Solely spending time on ACR.
Just a peek of what I'm studying:
what are the moves/effects that shock audiences.
what are the sure cannot explain move.
What is the "concentration" span of audiences.
When to continue and when not to, to ensure a peak shock.
What exclusive effects can i perform (out of ambitious routine) that will keep them excited.
yah.. etc... :P

well.. I'll just try till i realise i can't

take care all,
Chris

PS Brendan : thanks fer everything.
Issac: thanks fer everything.

Ignatius - June 29, 2005 03:32 PM (GMT)
I wasn't discussing. :(
